Football hooliganism copy edit
editHi Chrismorey. I'm a coordinator of the Guild of Copy Editors, and I've just had a quick look at Football hooliganism#Europe, where' you've placed a {{copy edit-section}} tag. Copy editing addresses things like spelling, grammar, sentence and paragraph flow and the like, not content issues such as those reflected in the other tags you placed there. It isn't really worth copy editing until the content is reasonably stable, so I'm going to remove that tag for the time being and place a {{GOCEreviewed}} template on the talk page. This doesn't mean we won't do it, just that some time in the future would be better than now. I hope that's OK. Best regards, --Stfg (talk) 18:53, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hello again. Thanks for your reply on my talk page, and for accepting this. I've made a proposal at Talk:Football hooliganism#Proposal to split about splitting the article, in the hope that it will be easier to address the POV problems there if the article is of a more manageable size. Your views there would be welcome. Kind regards, --Stfg (talk) 16:05, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

British English
editHello Chris. Re your edits on Accrington F.C., please be aware that in British English, club can be both plural and singular, and is generally the former when referring to football clubs. Many singular nouns that are suggestive of a group of people (club, team etc) are commonly treated as plurals in British English. Cheers, Number 57 22:42, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry you don't agree about "club" being plural, but it's a fact that it is, and it's certainly not unencyclopedic or informal in any shape or form. I completely agree with you about rooting out cliché-laden fan material from club articles, but this issue is not one of those problems. Number 57 23:42, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- And if you want to comment on the Luxembourg issue, your comments are more than welcome at Talk:Luxembourg general election, 2013. Number 57 23:45, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- The singular is not preferable - a simple search like the one performed by that person does not distinguish between the context of the usage. For instance, it would pick up the sentence "The former Spanish youth international's most recent club was Exeter City" as being "club was". I also noticed you used the word "it" to describe the club - whilst was and were are used alternatively, "it" sounds incredibly awkward and should never be used. Anyway, if you intend to continue with your stance, please discuss the issue on WT:FOOTY - as you can see from the response to your initial post and your edits being reverted by editors other than myself, other editors have also opposed your usage of the singular. Thanks, Number 57 11:06, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Offering adoption
editHey Chrismorey, I'm MrScorch6200 and I am offering you adoption! If you would like me to adopt you, please say so! --MrScorch6200 (t c) 08:13, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- thanks, I'd almost forgotten about my adoption request. I've been editing away and picking up the basics, but it would be great to have an experienced editor whom I could consult - so yes, please adopt me, whatever the formalities are.
- I'm based in New Zealand, am a retired IT consultant, and regard my self as a generalist rather than an expert in a specific domain. One area I've taken some interest in is football (soccer) and I've noted that English football has more than its share of illiterate articles and opinionated editors. I've done a bit of cleanup and disambiguation too, but not very systematically.
- One question I have - how does one search for a character string in the text of an article? The Help says that a key combination such as Ctrl-F should do it, but it doesn't on Firefox which I use. As an example, for disambiguation, it's clearly desirable to be able to find the ambiguous word or phrase without reading through the whole article. Chrismorey (talk) 19:58, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- Cool, I'll get the adoption process going.
Apparently, FireFox just dropped support for ctrl+F. Maybe a quick Google search will help you out. (Try ctrl+T)--MrScorch6200 (t c) 20:06, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- I downloaded the latest FireFox (25) to try it out, and it works. The bar pops up on the bottom of the browser. --MrScorch6200 (t c) 20:16, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
- thanks I've tried it & see the box Chrismorey (talk) 20:47, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

removed "reportedly organized by Hamas".
editHi, I have removed "reportedly rganized by Hamas" from the lead since, as far as I can see, the reference only says Israeli PM states that they were organized by Hamas. See Background section for more details. Kingsindian (talk) 03:34, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- the article says that a Hamss operative in the West Bank has admitted planning the kidnap and murder under instructions from Hamas in Gaza, and was himself responsible for buying the block of land in which the victims were buried. The operative is named (I have the clipping but not in front of me). I would therefore like you to revert your removal. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:58, 20 November 2014 (UTC)Adding image to The Three Perils of Woman
editGreat work overall, though it could use a little broader sourcing; I linked a suggested book on Scottish Lit at the bottom. Also poking around GoogleBooks for more scholarly critique would be good.
In any event, good enough to publish. If you can lay hands on an image of the original frontispiece, or any illustrations, or whatever else, being clearly pre-1923 they're out of copyright, and an image would make a good addition to the article. See WP:Images for instructions. Nice work! MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:38, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

- I have many issues with WP's handling of business-related content and no longer wish to participate in sterile debates about 'notability'. IF WP were even slightly more consistent in its handling of closely-similar topics, there might be some point; but the apparently ad-hoc approach to decision-making by individuals of widely-differing views, who clearly do not communicate with each other, renders any attempt to achieve balanced coverage pointless. Hemingway's third posthumous novel
editThe third posthumous novel from Ernest Hemingway would be True at First Light, by way of Patrick Hemingway's editing, and described by Ralph Blumenthal in The New York Times with "...Ernest Hemingway returned home to Cuba and began work on a long biographical novel." "A New Book By Hemingway; Blend of Life and Fiction Tells of African Bride" August 24, 1998 [2]
I don't have any specific sources to hand at 6 AM, but it is typical of Hemingway that his life provided the material for his fiction.
I am posting to your talk page because there is a formatting error on the Hemingwat talk page that causes the RfC close to propagate through any new section—I can't figure out the problem right now. I own five Hemingway bios plus other refs, but these really don't cover publication at the late date of 1999. The publication of TaFL was controversial—you can get a flavor at True at First Light. — User:Neonorange (Phil 10:41, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

editDiscretionary sanctions alert - gender and sexuality
editThis is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in gender-related disputes or controversies or in people associated with them. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
