WP:LUL edit

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the London Transport WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of London's transport system.

A few features that you might find helpful:

  • You may want to join or create a task force which attempts to drive the improvement of articles within a smaller scope.
  • The project also provides templates to help you make the perfect article.

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around!

Articles for Creation edit

Hello, Chris. Got your message on my talk page. Regarding the proposed article “Zonguldakspor” on the AFC page, which you declined for reliable sources: You may have noticed that one of the sources provided was the same article in the Turkish Wikipedia. I was going to leave a note that the article would be posted in the English Wikipedia if they could provide a translation to English. I am not going to revise your comment, but you might consider it. •DanMS 17:41, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

P.S. We might be very distantly related. My mother was a Fowler •DanMS 17:43, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey Chris, I don't know who"tuneintokyo" is but he wrote an amazingly detailed article about me that you declined because some of it wasn't sourced. Most of the info was taken from my old web site as well as myspace.com and the boston phoenix newspaper. My friend showed me the article, it's all true. I'm amazed someone went that far to research it and submit it to wikipedia. You did decline it but it's all right. dtension@gmail.com if you want to talk about it. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.109.133.47 (talk) 19:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

AFC (again) edit

Hello again, Chris. You might want take another look at the AFC article “Portsmouth Ladies FC” that you declined. There was a valid link in there BBC but it was hidden in a comment so you might not have noticed it. I’m not sure how notable it is, but it was a valid link. As it turns out, you and I were attempting to edit the same article at the same time but you beat me to it. •DanMS 22:28, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Hmm, more football clubs! I did miss that link, thanks for pointing it out. I have some time right now so I think I will make them a page, although I only have enough info for a stub. Chrisfow 22:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your attention to GA candidate California Gold Rush edit

Thanks for your attention to the GA candidate California Gold Rush. I appreciate that the GA review process is time-consuming and necessary. Below for your interest is several lines from the Talk page for this article.

"Argonauts" is spelt with both a capital A and a lower case a - yes, I am a pedant!
These cannot stop GA, though, and nor should they. Well done again! Chrisfow 19:43, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your thoughtful attention, and kind words. Careful reading is always appreciated - "Argonauts" is a proper noun in this context, and has now been capitalized throughout. Thank you very much again!NorCalHistory 06:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Rhodes blood libel edit

I really appreciate the time and effort you have into reviewing Rhodes blood libel. I believe that the issues with referencing that you have raised in your review are a result of some sort of misunderstanding. I have responded on the talk page regarding the two sentences that you thought were unsourced. If you have any further concerns, feel free to raise them, and I'll be happy to provide or explanations or make corrections. Beit Or 18:56, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Citations edit

You recenetly added the "citation needed" links on an article (specifically - 32 fouettés en tournant.

I was wondering how one can site a source if the information was obtained from a book and not a web page.

Simele massacre edit

Hi their. I want to first thank you for taking the time and giving a throughtly review of the Simele massacre article. Regards to this; The list of 54 villages adds nothing to the article. Either leave in two or three of the biggest, or else cut them out entirely and leave only the statement In the end, around 63 Assyrian villages were targeted in the Simele area - referenced, of course. - I have put the list in table. What do you think of this specific issue now? Does it look better? The listed villages are crutial because today their is an ongoing war between the Kurds and Assyrians for claiming these village's lands. Chaldean 15:52, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

No... edit

Trust me, I know what you mean when you I read what you said here. Yesterday, I was working for 3 hours on an article, expanding and adding citations, and I unconsciously closed that page's tab, without saving! I was devastated! I even considered leaving this place or at least taking a wiki-break. :D If you're wondering what the heck do I want, the answer is nothing, just making small talk. Good job on those GA reviews by the way. Cheers! - Anas Talk? 21:50, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help needed from a historian edit

Hi! I have been looking for a history wikipedian and I have found your username. I was wondering if you could, and would (if it is not too much trouble) help me with a merge that I have proposed. The articles in question are: Neapolitan War and Austro-Neapolitan War. They both refer to the same conflict that took place in 1815. I have put foward this topic in the following discussion. I am undecided in the re-naming of the article. I think that Austro-Neapolitan War would be the best. I would like to know your opinion and if you could guide me in this merge. I hope not to bother you and if you are very busy or have no idea, thanks anyway... Francisco Valverde 21:19, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • It's true, there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on this conflict (should it be called a "war"?), although one of the battles of this war, the Battle of Tolentino according to its corresponding article is considered the first battle of Italian Unification. See the reference to the proclamation of Rimini (in Italian) [1]. I have only found one source in the web about this war [2]. I have looked through the Italian wikipedia, but there is even less information. Francisco Valverde 12:21, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • I have also found a page in English of the association that re-enacts the Battle of Tolentino.[3] --Francisco Valverde 12:27, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

GAC backlog elimination drive edit

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:27, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Manzanar edit

Hi -- I saw you'd added a note that IvoShandor is reviewing Manzanar. There's been no activity on that review for a while, as far as I can see, so I removed the note on the GAC page to give someone else a chance to review it instead. (I did leave a note for IvoShandor on his talk page too; he didn't reply, but to be fair he was going through a very stressful RfA at the time.) So I was wondering if you knew something I didn't -- do you know if he is planning to continue the review? If not, I suggest we remove the note so someone else takes it -- it's not really fair to the article editors to leave it under review without working on it for more than a week or so. Thanks -- Mike Christie (talk) 14:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see the subpage; don't remember if I spotted it before; it looks like there's been no activity on IvoShandor's part for nearly three weeks. I think the best thing is to replace the GAReview note on GAC with a note explaining the existing review is not complete and it needs another reviewer; I'll go ahead and do that. Thanks! Mike Christie (talk) 15:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive edit

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:13, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London edit

Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

52nd Foot edit

Thanks for your considered review of 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot: it is always good to have fresh eyes look over an article, and you have raised some good points (not the least that my proof reading was not as good as it should have been: if I've worked on something for a while, I have a tendency to read what I expect to see, not what is there!) I will work on those things over the next day or two. Thanks also for your generosity in spending time copyediting and making fixes! Much appreciated.

I have taken the liberty of moving the review to a subpage, and transcluding it on the talk page, as is standard practice at GA now. This automatically changes the talk page GAN template to "on review" as well.

Again, thanks for your time reviewing the article. Gwinva (talk) 21:20, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I believe I have addressed your concerns, as noted on the review page. Let me know if you have any more thoughts. Many thanks, Gwinva (talk) 01:23, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Piracy participation update edit

Hello Chrisfow,

WikiProject Piracy is currently undergoing some updates and changes, and we are trying to find out who is still active in the project. You are currently listed as a participant on the list of participants, and we would like for you to update your status. Please move your name to the section that best describes your activity in the project:

  • Active - still active and interested within the scope of the WikiProject.
  • Semi-Active - still active on Wikipedia, but not as active in regards to the WikiProject.
  • Former Members - a catch-all classification for those editors who are not active on Wikipedia, those that are still on Wikipedia, but no longer part of this WikiProject, or those that have otherwise not moved their names to another classification yet.

Thank you,

GA Sweeps invitation edit

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! 104th Infantry Division (United States) edit

As a veteran GA Nominee reviwer, I must honestly say that this review was very poorly done. Automatically failing an article is never the proper decision to make, unless it clearly meets a Quick Fail Criteria. Please consult the Good Article Criteria more closely before conducting further reviews, as several of your reasons for failing the article are not even related to those criteria. I am reverting the review and posting it again for another reviewer. In the event that you wish to further assist in its review, you are welcome to do so. —Ed!(talk) 23:59, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Responded to your second round of comments with all the improvements that I can think of. Will need further direction to finish the review. —Ed!(talk) 00:03, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive edit

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

London Wikimedia Fundraiser edit

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.
