October 2016 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline. If you believe that your user page does not violate our guideline, please leave a note on this page. Alternatively you may add {{Db-u1}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, or you can simply edit the page so that it meets Wikipedia's user page guideline. Thank you. Adotchar (talk) 23:33, 30 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

i have viewed the guidelines and with respect I don't see any breach of the guidelines. can you be more specific please?

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Adotchar| reply here 09:27, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

October 2016 edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Your recent talk page comments on User Talk:Adotchar were not added to the bottom of the page. New discussion page messages and topics should always be added to the bottom. Your message may have been moved. In the future you can use the "New section" link in the top right. For more details see the talk page guidelines. Please remember to click a new section on the top right to reply on talk pages. Adotchar| reply here 09:35, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how you managed to delete a line and add a pair of curly braces halfway through a template when leaving a talk page comment, but please don't do that again. As stated above, new talk page comments should go at the end of the page, there's no need to edit anything else. --McGeddon (talk) 10:11, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

While we appreciate that you enjoy using Wikipedia, please note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a social network. Wikipedia is not a place to socialize or do things that are not directly related to improving the encyclopedia. Off-topic material may be deleted at any time. We're sorry if this message has discouraged you from editing here, but the ultimate goal of this website is to build an encyclopedia (please see What Wikipedia is not for further details). Thank you. McGeddon (talk) 10:15, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, I received a notification saying I was mentioned at Adotchar's talk page by you, Chris M Pattison. Could be a bug, I imagine, but if it was you, could you explain why you pinged me? Thanks. Patient Zerotalk 11:30, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Patient Zero: It was because of the template edit mentioned above - it embedded the archive page as a template, and everybody on it got pinged (which is how I noticed and fixed it). --McGeddon (talk) 11:37, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Chris M Pattinson edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Chris M Pattinson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Contested deletion edit

i will help you improve Wikipedia. i have also created an article and will create more. i was only using the user page to practice as not used Wikipedia before. i am sorry that was a problem for you for which I apologise. Chris M Pattinson (talk) 14:31, 1 November 2016 (UTC) This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) --Chris M Pattinson (talk) 12:02, 31 October 2016 (UTC) Where is there any advertising? I cannot see any.Reply

Whats the tea House?

I have declined the speedy delete on your userpage, for now. If all you do is to continue to edit in your own userspace I will come back and delete the page. Wikipedia user pages are not for you to host a website. They are for you to tell us something about yourself shile you are helping to improve the encyclopedia. My advice is to step away from your userspace, find an article that you are interested in (maybe something to do with swimming) and improve the article. -- GB fan 13:12, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I see you are still only editing your user page. You need to stop and go work on an article. Wikipedia is not your web host and you need to show that you are here to improve the encyclopedia. -- GB fan 00:04, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

November 2016 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Use of user space pages edit

Wikipedia is not a social media site. Your talk page is intended for collaboration with other users while improving Wikipedia. Your user page can be used to give a brief description of who you are but it is not appropriate to post a resume or material which may be seen a promotional. Nor should your user space be used to host articles. Please see Wikipedia:User pages, WP:NOTSOCIALNETWORK and WP:FAKEARTICLE for our rules. Cheers. JbhTalk 14:46, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

i am not interested in hearing from anyone else plesse close my account. The facebook page was a swimming page not a personal facebook and had thd references time sheets and newspaper articles.

i will edit the information if you pay me.

OK I understand it cannot close it so I will therefore not use in. Nothing personal its not for me. its not always possible to get reference links online. most of mine are hard copies of magazine and newspsper articles and you will not allow me to use a link where all the scans of the articles can be found. As you appear to be an expert maybe you can create a page for me.

No one here will pay you to edit any pages. We are all volunteers. -- GB fan 15:37, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
