Response edit

I did not hijack anyone's disambiguation page at Otilia. Nobody owns the article, especially if they're only known by their First and Last name. I am here to translate tr:Otilia into an English version, which is a useful contribution and is allowed.. I can be part of WP:Translation if any article I see fits. The name should be disambiguated if there is already a use on Wikipedia at tr:Otilia. . After this user complained about independent sources, of which there are plenty available to signify notability, I added a few for Otilia exactly as requested and was subsequently blocked for "conduct" and "clearly not here to contribute". Thanks Chinesemusicfan (talk) 06:39, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

You clearly don't understand policy on the English-language Wikipedia. The existence of an article on Turkish Wikipedia does nothing to establish that the subject matter meets our notability criteria. The only relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles. AndyTheGrump (talk) 07:07, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Stop complaining about sources and notability if I can't even begin to add sources to meet the criteria without being blocked right afterwards. I would be happy to add plenty more because the whole week nobody added anything, and a Google search clearly returns plenty. My only edits were to translate the page, which is allowed, and is a useful contribution. The harassment and punishment for translation and sourcing is completely unjustifiable. Chinesemusicfan (talk) 07:18, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
No. You are not 'allowed' to turn a disambiguation page into an article on an individual. A page created for one purpose can't be simply hijacked for another. As for 'harassment', you will generally find that referring to people as 'retards' [1] is a poor way to complain about it. If you are serious about wanting to create an article on this individual, and have the necessary sources to demonstrate that she meets Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles, you could start by apologising for your behaviour, and then, if and when you are unblocked, create a draft article at Draft:Otilia Bruma, for others to look at, and to approve if appropriate. Frankly though, I think you are wasting your time - we need evidence of more than YouTube views to establish notability. The English-language Wikipedia gets similar music biographies submitted all the time - and rejects most of them. AndyTheGrump (talk) 07:33, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry for my behavior. yes, you should be allowed to translate articles here especially if there is an existing article with the exact same title in another language. What I don't understand is: Why go through all that trouble for a draft to get rejected again at the different title Otilia Bruma, when Otilia is most commonly referred to as Otilia. It doesn't make sense to me - there is plenty of evidence out there of her notability on here , including her existing article. Chinesemusicfan (talk) 07:41, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
What you think 'should' be the policy regarding translations is beside the point - our policy is that articles must meet our notability guidelines. As for the title, there is no real problem changing it later if it can be demonstrated that it is necessary. It needs to be started as a draft though, and a draft with the same name as a disambiguation page is simply confusing. Anyway, if you want to be unblocked, I suggest you change the text in the unblock request below to indicate that you apologise for the 'retard' comments, and that you agree not to make any more edits concerning Otilia Bruma except in a draft article which you will submit for approval. If you can do that, I will contact the admin that blocked you, and request that you be unblocked. AndyTheGrump (talk) 07:53, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I've left a request that you be unblocked with User:Ricky81682, who blocked you. AndyTheGrump (talk) 08:08, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Unblocked and if you're interested, there's a lot of help you can do with Category:Articles needing translation from Turkish Wikipedia. For a number, we already have the article so that's not going to be an issue. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:14, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Blocked for Gamesmanship edit

Please explain how adding sources to establish notability can be regarded as "gamesmanship". Chinesemusicfan (talk) 06:45, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

i read, apologize for the "retard" comments and understand. I will not make edits about Otilia Bruma except in a draft article

Accept reason:

Thank you. It seems like you understand our concerns. Again, the fact that an article exists on another version doesn't mean it fits our standards here. If you would like actually start a draft, message me on my talk page and I can undelete the work you've done and move to a proper place where you can work in peace (at long as you keep working on it, people will regularly review it and maybe help but it won't be deleted). Discussion closed with no consensus edit

The discussion at Talk:Otilia was closed with no consensus. Here was the comment left then deleted:

You are 'allowed' to do nothing of the sort. This is a disambiguation page, and it will remain so until it is established that individual concerned meets our notability guidelines - at which point, we will decide how to handle the situation. Meanwhile, I suggest you read Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Criteria for musicians and ensembles, since that is the only relevant guideline - the fact that an article exists on an other-language Wikipedia is of no significance here. And I suggest that you take a look at the Billboard citation - it currently links to a page saying "Sorry, Couldn't find anything for this artist", which does little to indicate notability... AndyTheGrump (talk)

So basically he's saying I'm not allowed to contribute as a translator because of it being a disambiguation page, (I was blocked immediately after adding a different source.

See the 'Response' thread above - given Chinesemusicfan's statement, I've asked that he be unblocked. AndyTheGrump (talk) 08:12, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
