Please don’t bite me, I’m a newbie!

I’m a university student in a Wikipedia Education class, and I’m currently learning how to contribute to Wikipedia.
I am approaching my subject in good faith.

If you have any concerns or questions, my tutor’s name is Airbubbles 451 (talk · contribs). Thanks!

Welcome

edit

Hello, Chasseur99 and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students. Go through our online training for students

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Ganesha811 (talk) 20:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your welcome note Ganesha811, and for passing on all of these help resources. I'll be sure to check them out if/when I run into any difficulties. Thanks! Chasseur99 (talk) 23:17, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rating

edit

I am always open to question in relation to rating - I use Rater https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Evad37/rater#2.6.4, and the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence_in_Wikimedia_projects#ORES

which gave the article a B anyways - however it is always worth looking at the formal processes at

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Australia/Assessment - and realising that there are elements to what gives an article the importance and quality status that can be as subjective as it is ... JarrahTree 01:41, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @JarrahTree for your reply. I hope I didn't come across as combative in my message to you (I most certainly wasn't). I was more so hoping to see whether you might be able to review Peter Nicol Russell and provide some pointers as to how I can get it across the line to be a C- or B-class article, and then re-grade it if it is at sufficient standard. Thanks! Chasseur99 (talk) 02:03, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have deep distrust of reviewing - when I see the astronomically abominations of stuff ups by articles for creation and diversion of valid articles to draft space by people who should know better... Also there is a fairly certain guarantee that editors who simply turn up and make corrections to articles, in most cases know nothing whatsoever about the subject.

nah - the lack of adequate explanatory in between stuff from me is that i didnt even intend editing this am where I am - if you want to see some good examples of where the B material exists - check out similar/related articles - the usual things to carry across the mid range assessment is the level of referencing, and the provision of images and maps and good contextual explanation - versus headings and sections of sparse and thin context... but always, in the end it can be quite subjective... Ahh ok I see what you mean. Completely understand! I see what you mean. Thanks! Chasseur99 (talk) 02:29, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
