Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Lee R. Martin This is what we call a "cut and paste move," and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. FIFA World Cup

Sorry about that, I thought I had left those in. I didn't intend to remove all of your edits. I removed the federations as they are all found in the wikilink, and is not really relevant to the article on the World Cup. I removed the stuff about Pele because I felt it was glorifying him aboive other people who have played in 4 world Cups. Whether he should be glorified or not is another question, just not in a neutral encyclopedia article. I hope that clarifies it, and sorry for any offense caused. Kanchelskis and Yuran

Hey, I'm impressed by your interest in soccer, but trust me there is a reason why I did not include those two of them in the list. Beside them there some few others who prefered to play for Russia over Ukraine. On the international arena the only contribution they've made for their country of origin was the challenge by playing elsewhere and continuing to refuse on contributing now out of the principle. Portugal at the 1984 EC

There's much confusion about who was the second goalkeeper for Portugal at the 1984 EC. Many sources say Francisco Silva, many others Jorge Martins. Have you got an "ultimate" source? --necronudist (talk) 09:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

AFAIK UEFA listed only lineups, and Francisco Silva/Jorge Martins didn't play (you can retrieve them playing with the Wayback Machine and Google cache, I checked today morning). My sources are a pair of Portuguese friends and many websites provided by them:

• Vedeta ou Marreta, a complete Benfica blog. In the tag you can find França 84, plus is written Foi um dos escolhidos por Fernando Cabrita, António Morais, Toni e José Augusto para representar Portugal no Europeu de Futebol realizado em França em 1984. (was selected with [...] to represent Portugal in the 1984 European Championship), plus a comment say Ainda foi o terceiro guarda-redes do Euro-84 (he was the third goalkeeper at Euro-84). I've asked the author of the blog and he kindly answered that:

  "I believe some sources mistake him for a certain "Francisco Silva" because of an article in wikipedia, but the truth is that there wasn't even then any Francisco Silva playing goalie in the portuguese top league! Incidentally, Jorge Martins, even though he was called for Euro '84 and later Mexico '86, never got a full cap (!)."

In fact, the only Francisco Silva reference my Portuguese friends' found is this: but he retired after 1955-56 season.

• ZeroZero.pt, main Portuguese football website, where you can notice in the right part of the page, at the end of his career, the indication that he took part at 1986 WC and Euro-84.

Hi, I have been working on an article on the 1912 FA Cup Final and I have been creating articles for the players who took part. I have been using a number of contemporary sources who rever to the one of the Barnsley Half Backs as Bob Glendinning, however it is clear that from the reference in your article that he and his descendants spell his name Glendenning. See Category:Beach volleyball players and Category:Olympic beach volleyball players. New country-specific categories like e.g. Category:American beach volleyball players should be created as well as similar cats for olympic beach volleyball players. Many such players use just e.g. "American volleyball players" or "Olympic volleyball players of the United States", these cats need to be replaced with proper beach volleyball players categories. I assumed you created the category because you knew of some, or planned to create them. If that is not the case, I think we should merge the category with its parents. If you notice, the category is under both Category:Olympic competitors for Lithuania and Category:Olympic sailors by country. So this way we have a category structure that categorize all the Olympians under both country and sport. So we create a new category even when there is only one page. To me, this seems to be a case of over-categorization, appropriate for large Olympic teams, but not for small ones. Gintarė Volungevičiūtė can simply be in Sailors of Lithuania, Olympic sailors and Olympic athletes of Lithuania. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 09:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

The downside, as you said, is that some of these "Olympic (sport competitors) of (country)" is going to be huge while some will only have one page. The upside is that it's structurally consistent this way, so it helps editors correctly categorize the page instantly. Say we do not create "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" and put the page in both "Olympic competitors for Lithuania" and "Olympic sailors". However, over time, two problems will emerge:

1. Say 4 years later I create another page of a Lithuanian Olympic sailor. Then I have to check whether "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" has been created yet to determine what categories I have to add to the page. This does not help me editing.
2. Say we decide that we create "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" once there are 10 pages. How can I determine that? If I go to "Olympic competitors for Lithuania", I have no idea who is a sailor or not, so I have to click on every single page. If I go to "Olympic sailors", I have no idea who is Lithuanian or not, so I have to click on every single page. So recategorizing the pages are going to waste you a lot of time later.

Believe me, at the beginning of the year the whole categorization situation is quite messy. Even if there are categories such as "Olympic swimmers of the United States", a lot of eligible pages are still in "Olympic competitors for the United States". That's because when people create pages they tend to copy and paste what they see in other pages, so if one page is in the "incorrect" category, soon you will have 10 pages in the "incorrect" category. So we make the effort to put every Olympian under "Olympic (sport competitors) of (country)". Consider the large amount of athlete pages created in the last week, and almost all of them are categorized correctly, I think this scheme has been very successful. Haiti at the 1924 Summer Olympics

Hey, maybe you can help me shed some light on something. I noticed that you created articles for seven shooting medalists for Haiti at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Both Sports Reference and databaseOlympics, however, list only five medalists in that event, the extra two being L. H. Clermont and C. Dupre. My guess is that the latter two were listed as participants, but were either reserves or did not compete for some reason. Do you know/have a source for why this discrepancy exists?
