I have a question...

I saw your comment about Luke Benward's girlfriend and I was wondering, are you a Luke Benward fan. If you are, we could be total BFFs!

                                                                  An obsessed (not really) fan,
Luke B. rox! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luke B.rox! (talkcontribs) 00:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

What do you mean his "girlfriend link"?

Sincerely,

Luke B. rox! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Luke B.rox! (talkcontribs) 01:21, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I mean that I was getting rid of the mention of his girlfriend. I meant to say mention, not link. My mind was on other matters.

Have a nice day,

Jonathan Lade

Hello!

I deleted that article because someone had nominated it to be speedy-deleted based on the criteria at this page. Specifically, the article didn't say why the person was important--and even apart from whether they really are, the article at least needs to say so. Then, after a claim has been made, it's compared with the notability guidelines, in this case WP:ATHLETE, to see if it fits in with the rest of Wikipedia.

I know this stuff can be confusing, so if you like, I can restore the Jonathan Lane article and put in your personal userspace to work on. Based on what was there before it was deleted, I'm not sure that it passes the guidelines for athletes, but you can still hang on to it just in case if you want it.

Let me know! I'm about to leave the house, but I'll reply to your request as soon as I can. --Masamage 17:17, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Home again! Okay, I've moved the article into your userspace at User:Meldshal42/Jonathan Lade. Good luck, and let me know if I can help more. --Masamage 02:48, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Oort cloud

I've doubled the article's length and number of citations, but I can't do much more with what I have. Samuel Sol seems to be on wikibreak, so I was wondering if you might be interested in checking to see what is left to get Oort cloud up to FA. Thanks. Serendipodous 09:51, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think two days would be enough; I wasn't aware that a time limit was being considered. NASA probably won't produce much in terms of information (they focus mainly on areas that they can visit), but since all their images are free to use, they would make a great source for new visual material. Not sure what new images we would need, though. Perhaps a pic of Sedna? Serendipodous 19:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

All admins start out as beginners...

Hi! Thanks for the smile! And thanks, too, for the VaTech ribbon on your user page. My nephew was a student there last spring; we were all anxious when the news broke about the shootings until we were sure he was OK.

I see that you are the editor who has taken the lead on getting the Jules Verne article up to GA class. I'll try to get by there again soon to see what I can do to help out--probably early next week, as my calendar is a little full on the home front until then. I don't know a lot about Jules Verne, but I'm finding that in some respects it is easier to copy edit for a subject you don't know all that well--keeps you from being tempted to inject your own opinions.

Smiles back atcha! --LBourne (talk) 21:19, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah, well -- if you take the trouble to try to organize the editing efforts, that is at least showing some leadership, and showing leadership, in my book, is taking the lead if there's nobody else doing the same. In any event, as someone who has not much in the way of organizational skills, I salute those who step forward to offer them. Heading to the Jules Verne article now... --LBourne (talk) 03:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, please do not remove redlinks from this article. I am probably going to write an article on all of them; Wellington, Reed, Johnson and Guy are all notable. I often "follow the redlinks" to find new articles to write. Chubbles (talk) 01:37, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

As the FA criteria says, "The article must be of professional level." This article is probably ready, don't take me wrong, but I think its prose is not exactly "brilliant". Copyright problem: Bola (volcano)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Bola (volcano), but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/volcano.cfm?vnum=0502-05=, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Bola (volcano) and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Bola (volcano) with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Bola (volcano).

It is also important that the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and that it follows Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:Bola (volcano)/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:Bola (volcano) saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! • Gene93k (talk) 09:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Please note that the lifting the text without attribution violates the copyright terms on the site where it came from. Also, the non-commercial use only "fair use" terms are not compatible with use in Wikipedia. Please cite your sources and contribute in your own words. • Gene93k (talk) 09:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Carrizozo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Carrizozo.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 00:12, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Polly (Parrot) 00:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 00:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

It is your responsibility to accurately list the source & copyright status of any image you upload; see Wikipedia:Copyrights. Source site http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/volc_images/south_america/guat/atitlan.html says "Photograph copyrighted and provided by Steve O'Meara of Volcano Watch International." No evidence of the supposed free licenses listed on the Wikipedia image page can be seen at the above link nor front page of site. To support your listed free licenses claim, please provide a link confirming the photographer/copyright holder's authorization of those licenses, or provide Wikipedia:OTRS confirmation. Thanks, -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Danielsstorycover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Danielsstorycover.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Possibly unfree Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Volcanatitlan.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 00:40, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

For an FA...

Hi Meldshal42. I just noticed you added a comment on the Mount Baker talk page about listing the article to become FA. Can you do you same for Mount Garibaldi, Mount Meager, Mount Cayley, Silverthrone Caldera and the Anahim hotspot? Those five volcano need improvements for featured status as well. Mounts Garibaldi and Meager are already close to GA status. Black Tusk 18:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Where would there need references and photos for the Anahim hotspot article? Black Tusk 22:38, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi Meldshal42. Can you take a look at Tseax Cone and Mount Edziza for what class it's close to? It's currently start class. Thanks. Black Tusk 03:07, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Wells Gray-Clearwater Volcanic Field is probably the same as well. By the way, I rated Mount Garibaldi as GA and added more references and photos like you said on the talk page. Anything else we need for an FA? Black Tusk 01:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Canvassing for FA support

Hi, I'm hoping to have time to look at Mount Garibaldi properly sometime in the next few days. Just a friendly warning: you should probably read Wikipedia:Canvassing before you try to drum up any more support. That sort of thing is often viewed negatively. -- Avenue (talk) 02:32, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Meldshal42. Just letting you know the candidate is getting questions and comments about the article (including references) and probably needs more WikiProject Volcanoes users involved in the dicussion and fix problems in the article to make it Featured Status. Thanks. Black Tusk 18:50, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I have restored the Bivouac links on the Garibaldi article; the infomation on that website is not made up of user-submitted information. I just got a reply from Bivouac's owner Robin Tivy and said all the infomation is from sources and agrees more references would be helpful on the website. While I was replacing the Bivouac links I noticed some of the infomation is from here. Perhaps we should discuss this on the featured article candidates page? Black Tusk 03:30, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Right now there are many abandoned and ineffective wikiprojects across Wikipedia. Several projects are managed by one or two users. If you note on the proposal page the desire is to encourage a greater collaboration among groups. By working as a part of existing projects new members can leverage the advantages brought by numbers. Additionally, wikiproject members who have been a part of a project for a longer period can offer information on past discussions and decisions. Starting a project with just one or two members put the project at a major disadvantage for effectiveness and being able to remain active. I in no way want to give the impression that this is some sort of law...just sharing a perspective and offering advice. Hope this helps. Absolon S. Kent (talk) 01:59, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
