Crest badge

edit

Hello Celtus. I think you're the expert in this department. How would one go about creating a crest badge for clan Russell? I plan to write the entry soon and just wondered about the badge. Many thanks. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:57, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm no expert! That's for sure. I'm confused as to what the crest badge would be. Per the discussion at Talk:Scottish_clan#Template_talk:Infobox_Clan, no crest badge is shown on the standing council website. The myclan website and Brodie's link to the general armoury, don't show any crest or motto assigned to the old chiefs.
The scotsconnection website shows a pic of a crest badge. The crest and motto seem to be the same as list here "Russell of Aden and Moncoffer". This book is Burke's genealogical and heraldic history of the landed gentry, Volume 2, from 1847. Like Brodie said, the arms aren't the same as that of Russell of that Ilk, but similar the arms of the dukes of Bedford.
The general armoury linked to dates from 1884, and doesn't give a motto for "Russell (Moncoffer, co. Banff, 1768)", it neither mentions Aden in connection with the family. The general armoury lists a couple coats similar to the those of Russell of that ilk: like the Russell Baronets, of Charlton Park, listed with the motto "promptus" but with a different crest than that listed for the Russell of Moncoffer. I don't know the history of the Russells; are those of Moncoffer and of Charlton Park considered to be somewhat closely related?
I don't know what whose crest and motto should be within a clan crest badge. Why would scotsconnection show the crest badge of what seems to be the Russells of Moncoffer, especially since there are other existent families that utilise the "clan" heraldry? Maybe we should just stick with an image of the arms of Russell of that Ilk, which we are at least sure of? Brodie can probably make one pretty easily if you ask.--Celtus (talk) 06:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. I was trying to wrap up some other loose ends here. I wrote you a message here a bit ago, but am now editing it as I've discovered a new source on this that has changed my mind. I just posted that source and my reasoning at the Scottish clans talk page. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 10:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Crest badges

edit

Hi Celtus, just wondering, if you have the time, would you be able to do a Clan Crest Badge for the Clan Mackay. Thanks. QuintusPetillius (talk) 16:28, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. I just added it to the article.--Celtus (talk) 04:53, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gallagher

edit

I wrote what I thought was an informative article on the origins, meaning and history of the Gallagher surname (I have a personal interest, Gallagher being my own name). I now see that you have reduced it drastically (although you did add something of interest). May I ask why? Ulysses54 (talk) 08:46, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
