Question re Recent changs to Clan MacIntyre Article

Hi, In a May 20 edit Le Deluge removed the section headings “Sources” and “Books and articles referenced” from the end of the Clan MacIntyre article. Is there some Wiki convention or style rule that supports this? This editor seems to follow me around and make inexplicable (to me) style changes to the articles I am working on without actually adding anything of substance. Thanks so much for your patience, responsiveness and thoughtful response. It just seems strange to now have no divider in the article between the specific page references and the sources to which they refer. I have looked at some of the featured articles and they don't seem to be structured that way, but this is something I should take up with the other editor and not force you to spend time on. My personal philosophy is that if I see that another editor (or editors) has put real effort into something, I will not change it unless I can articulate how the change makes the article affirmatively better, not just different. And, as a courtesy, I will first contact the other editor (or place a statement on the talk page) explaining what I propose to do. It might be wrong and just create more work for somebody to come in later and correct. Yikes! I just noticed I didn't sign my last post. Very sloppy. Thanks again for a very valuble contribution. I tend to think "Notes" and "Footnotes" is a bit confusing, but if something works for a FA I'm happy to follow along. I do want to make clear that with regard to the other editor, I am not simply "assuming good faith," I am presuming good faith. I know he's trying to make things better. That's why it threw me for a loop when he took the divider out. I hadn't had a chance to ask him why he changed it before you got back to me. I'll redo the headings in Clan MacIntyre and add an edit note saying it's following FA Stigand. I think that will take care of it. Same article, very different subject this time. As I indicated on the Clan MacIntyre talk page, an artist friend agreed to execute a painting of the chief's coat of arms, which he will agree to be placed in the public domain for use on Wikipedia (or anybody else). I now have the file, which is currently 4MB. I have looked through the materials on getting his formal consent, but it is rather confusing. I know you have some experience with Wiki Commons illustrations. Is this something you might be able to help me with? It's the most complicated aspect of Wikipedia I've encountered to date. There is no rush so if you're busy at the moment it can certainly wait. I will attempt to do what's needed but would like someone to look over my shoulder so I don't end up with a wasted effort. Again, very helpful. I had decided to use the 3.0 license but am glad to have confirmation. What I intend to do is to keep track of what has to be done at each stage of the process so that if I'm successful other people can just copy what I've done step-by-step. (The so-called how to instructions in wp:permission are still very confusing). I have a subpage to my userpage entitled "Drafts." I have put the text of what I propose to send to my friend there. If--but only if--you feel like doing so, feel free to look at it and make any changes you think desirable. I realize this is my project and don't want you to feel like I'm trying to get you to do my work. Since you had created the Clan MacIntyre crest image I thought you might have a lot of expertise in this. One thing I have already done. The present file is a TIF. Based on what I've read in wp:PIFU it seems like Wikipedia prefers a JPEG (I assume for size reasons). So I've asked my friend to convert the file to a JPEG and to name the file "Arms of MacIntyre of Glenoe, Chief of Clan MacIntyre," so there will be no doubt as to what the content is. Thanks again. I’ve made some more changes to the draft e-mail, retaining your changes. I realized it sounded like the creator was agreeing to the license terms rather than agreeing to license the artwork to others under the terms of the license. I think it’s much clearer now.

For Clan MacIntyre I have four items on the agenda before I think it should go up for a GA review: 1. Upload image of Chief’s coat of arms. 2. Try to resolve a conflict regarding Duncan Ban MacIntyre. I have a source (Logan) that says Duncan was named bard to the Highland Society. Another source (Calder) says he was not and describes the pertinent competition in considerable detail. I’m heading back to the Library of Congress to try to pull some more material that might be helpful, but I don’t know if a resolution exits. 3. Give the article a thorough proof-read, something I am decidedly not good at. 4. Resolve the issue of whether to have two Clan Profile sections. Czar Brody added a Clan Profile box at the top of the article. I’m guessing this is something that is intended to be standard for clan articles? But he left in the original Clan Profile section, which was there before I arrived. I tend to favor the original, at the end of the article, since it has a nice picture of Ben Cruachan. If the intention is to standardize the clan articles with a profile box at the beginning, I don’t object though. I just don’t see the rationale for two sections covering the same subject. I’m not sure one of the first critiques of the article won’t be “Why are there two Clan Profiles”? I’ve asked Czar Brodie what his opinion is but haven’t heard back yet.

The page seems to have attracted a bit of vandalism. Somebody put the slogan in the profile box at the top as “damn right.” Obviously, it is “Cruachan”, which I will correct.--Tomaterols (talk) 13:18, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

It would be great if you'd be prepared to cast an eye over once I've got put something up. For the record, the Robertons are very much a lowland Flemish family although it appears we married well ;).
