Hello, I'm XLinkBot. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Southern free-tailed bat, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Possibly unfree File:Mormopterus planiceps.jpg edit

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Mormopterus planiceps.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you object to the listing for any reason. Thank you. Elmidae (talk) 12:48, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi mate, I'm getting the impression you are not actually the person who took this photo? In that case, you can't upload it to Commons or use it in an article - the author has not formally released it for free distribution. If you can please confirm? I've removed it from Southern free-tailed bat for the time being. Cheers -- Elmidae (talk) 12:51, 16 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello,
I have written permission from the owner of the photograph that I can use it on Wikipedia as long as the image is credited to him. Which I am trying to do and which is pretty clear in the information I am providing, including the copyright I selected. When uploading to the commons.
This page is an assignment for university and I need a picture, sadly the species is not often studied and pictures are rare. There are none on free licensed sites.
I would appreciate if it didn't get deleted as I have broken no copyright rules.

Christie

Hi @Ceast05:, I believe in that case the upload information will have to different - the owner himself may have to make the statement at Commons. Not quite sure though, I have put out an enquiry and let you know. In the meantime, I have removed the image again until we are sure. Wikipedia is extremely strict on copyright and playing it safe is always the recommended course. Please note that in any case, there should be no attribution/credits to the author anywhere on the article page; all attribution is restricted to the image information (at Commons). Cheers -- Elmidae (talk) 07:03, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. Elmidae is right: a simple statement on your user talk page is unfortunately not enough. We need a confirmation by email from the original photographer. I have tagged the image at Wikimedia Commons and left you a notice with instructions on your talk page over there. In this case I think it is also sufficient to forward the original permission you got from B. Lobert to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. De728631 (talk) 14:47, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
