October 2010 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Relay for Life of Mercersburg has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.jhouckevents.weebly.com/.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 21:33, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Relay for Life of Mercersburg edit

A tag has been placed on Relay for Life of Mercersburg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. We appreciate your contributions, but please remember that Wikipedia is not a free webhost for community events. I have therefore deleted the Relay for Life article, because it is promotional in nature and the event itself does not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline. Also, I have removed the "Mission Statement" from the school district article. In general, such lists of ideals are inappropriate for an encyclopedia, and do not reflect the neutral, dispassionate tone appropriate for an encyclopedia. Please don't be discouraged by this; we do appreciate your interest and are happy to help you learn the guidelines for content and to assist you in your contributions. Please remember that all content on Wikipedia is free - you may not cut and paste from another website that does not license their content on the same terms, nor may you quote published material extensively (that includes the mission statement, which is considered a copyrighted work by the school district). Speedy deletion nomination of Relay for Life of Mercersburg edit

A tag has been placed on Relay for Life of Mercersburg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies.

Deletion edit

I've replaced the speedy deletion tag - you just add the hangon notice and keep the big pink tag too. In order to help you understand why this was nominated, here are some pointers:

  • WP:NOTE - Wikipedia's general notability guidelines
  • WP:CORP Notability for companies and organizations
  • WP:NOT What Wikipedia is not (including a free webhost, means of promotion or indiscriminate repository of inforation)
  • WP:YFA Information on how to write your first article
  • WP:RS Requirements for reliable sources
  • WP:COI Information on conflict of interest and editing in areas in which you are closely involved

You can reply here if you have any questions or need help - we're here to answer questions and to assist. Acroterion (talk) 21:54, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Relay for Life of Mercersburg edit

Hi, Cdardi. A more detailed explanation about why the page you created was put for deletion is as follows. Thousands on towns participate in Relay for Life, and having an article on one but not others would not be right. Also, there is nothing inherently notable about the Relay your town held, and therefore, it does not belong on Wikipedia, as Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which is a collection of notable information. Consider reading Wikipedia:Notability if you would like to create another article. Also, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, :pepper 21:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please don't remove deletion tags from articles that you have created . Also, please don't cut and paste from other websites. This is a copyright violation and we take copyright very seriously. I've deleted the article in question. We are happy to interact with you, but it's a two-way street - copyright violations and removal of deletion tags are landmines that we can help you avoid. Tuscarora Education Foundation edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Tuscarora Education Foundation, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://tefhome.org.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)   Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from pages that you have created yourself. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Acroterion (talk) 22:12, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits.
The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, as you did with Relay for Life of Mercersburg, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Goodvac (talk) 22:15, 1 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
