Carrara edit

CIAO. Saresti Italiano?

Ma abiti in gran bretagna or America? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sloesswan (talkcontribs) 10:42, 13 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Greetings. I noticed that you've created a page for Giuseppe Casarrubea. Have you read all, or a good part of, the books he wrote, especially about the massacre? If so, are you familiar with Antonio Ramirez's letter, delivered post mortem, to Giuseppe Montalbano concerning the massacre? Regards Tapered (talk) 08:48, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, no. Anyway, I'll make some searches, thanks for the suggestion. --Cavarrone 08:53, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Please don't. The above was a bit of a probe. The information is in "King of the Mountain.." by Billy Jaynes Chandler, a biography of Giuliano focussing on his banditry. You can find a precis of the letter in the Giuliano article in the Portella section. I'm the main author of the article, which is based largely on Chandler's scholarly, painstakingly researched book--because there's nothing remotely as good, in English at least. The letter explains most of what will ever be defintively known about the conspiracy which led to the massacre. I wanted to see if you'd heard of the letter, as a gauge of the historical quality of what you've read--you seem well informed, and certainly energetic. If you've read a lot about Portella, and the letter hasn't been mentioned, then the writers were either lazy, or blinkered, or pursuing an agenda, or bullshit artists, or all of the above. It's been part of the public record in Italy since the late 60s or early 70s.
Regarding my estimation of Casarrubea, you can see it in detail in the Talk page of the Giuliano article. The practical upshot is that I'd object to having him considered a reliable source, except on a careful, case by case basis. Regards Tapered (talk) 09:51, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Male composers edit

Well, because they're in the subcat Category:Male film score composers as well...eventually the "composers" categories should be broken up as much as possible into their subcats. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:28, 16 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I think it's overcategorization - each of those could be better broken down into a more specific category than "composers" (songwriters, for instance, or classical composers). But I can put them all back if you think it best - it's really no trouble. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:27, 16 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Name your top ten favourite Italian movies.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:10, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Nice question, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, Bread and Chocolate, Nights of Cabiria, An Average Little Man, We All Loved Each Other So Much, Il Sorpasso, The Best Offer, A cavallo della tigre, In the Name of the Italian People, The Great War, Divorce Italian Style, The Railroad Man, The Great Silence, C'era una volta il West, Seven Beauties the first I am thinking now. Cavarrone 18:22, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks , I've seen four of those, will try to see the others sometime! I saw Shoeshine the other day. That was good.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:00, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

What did you think of The Birds, the Bees and the Italians? Loved it!! One of the funniest films I've ever seen, just an absolute blast to watch!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:49, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Birds, the Bees and the Italians is great, and I love Pietro Germi! in fact there are two Germi's films in the list above... --Cavarrone 19:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

So did you like it or what LOL?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • I have seen it about 10 years ago, so it's hard for me to review it now... I remember quite well the segment with Gastone Moschin, but very little memory of the other stories... but I remember well that I liked it, I gave it an 8 on IMDB and I have it in my collection... I have to see it again. Cavarrone 12:29, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Great film IOACAS!! Florinda Bolkan was smoking hot!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:07, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Gian was virtually unrecognizable from the Dollars films!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:39, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Haha what a hoot Bread and Chocolate is! LMAO at the chicken part and the Germans!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:56, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

One of my favorite commedia all'italiana films! the chicken coop scene is memorable, easily the best of the film, but I really love every scene, there's always such a perfect alchemy between humor and bitterness... Cavarrone 22:04, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

A cavallo della tigre was indeed a great film! I'm currently trying to learn Italian and get to intermediate level like Spanish. Sono molto felice! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:19, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Guardare questi bei film è un ottimo esercizio! So far you liked all the films I suggested, sono molto felice, me too! Cavarrone 20:25, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Have you seen When Women Had Tails? Completely nuts and silly but I enjoyed it! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Winx Club edit

Hello. I saw that you undid my edits on the List of Winx Club characters page.

I edited characters' paragraphs to make them more ordered and consistent, and because some user (whose previous account and IP's have been blocked, I believe) had been tampering with the page by adding superfluous flowery language to the pages, such as adding " almighty and limitless power of the Great Dragon" instead of "the power of the Great Dragon", replacing "Winx" with "Winx Club" everywhere (although the term "the Winx" is often used in the show) and so on, and it only added way too much unnecessary wording to the paragraphs.

I also edited that page because of new information that has surfaced since the new season of Winx Club aired (such as Daphne not being a member of the Winx).

The minor character's sections had not been much tampered with, so I didn't edit them.

I hope you understand.

AFD edit

Hi, Had you checked the editors TP you'd of seen why I removed them, Putting Keep followed by "Wikipedia is too harsh" isn't a !vote .... It's just totally irrelevant to the AFD(s) in question and deserves reverting,
I appreciate !votes shouldn't be removed but I fully explained on the editors talkpage why I removed them,!Votes should be based on the Article - Not on whether someone hates this place or not, Anyway thanks, –Davey2010Talk 18:44, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry, their comments will be certainly disregarded by the closer. You are also welcome to COMMENT below their vote and to note their lack of legitimacy or relevance. Dozens of AfD votes are poor, or irrelevant, or misleading, or just votes, yet we are certainly not allowed to delete them. Deleting or modyfing others' comments is generally considered disruptive, as long as you are an experienced editor and as you spend about 99% of your time in AfDs you should know it pretty well... --Cavarrone 19:00, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well If the closer doesn't disregard it we have a very serious problem  , I obviously know AFD like the back of my hand but I honestly couldn't see a problem in this case but whatever we're not all perfect unfortunately  Davey2010Talk 19:10, 26 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Genny edit

Your method of creating the Genny page is not allowed on wikipedia. You don't overhaul an already created page for your own article; it's not allowed and can be considered as a way of avoiding detection/deletion of an unnotable subject. If another article is occupying the namespace for a subject; create the topic using your sandbox (User:Cavarrone/Sandbox) and then request for the article to be moved to the mainspace. An administrator would delete the existing redirect page and move your article to the space, provided it has passed notability criteria. Refusing to follow the appropriate way, and edit warring may get you blocked without further notice.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 17:52, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jamie Tubers, your arguments are misleading as there was no other article on Genny, just a quite unresonable redirect to Genevieve Nnaji (unreasonable as the Nnaji article does not mention the word Genny in any way, and anyway, if Genny is intended as a nickname for Genevieve, at best the redirect should had been Genny Nnaji and not just Genny). At any rate, I left the redirect for the actress (see the hatnote on the top of the page "for the Nigerian actress see Genevieve Nnaji") when creating the article about the Genny fashion house. Your so-called "proper process" is not prescribed by any guideline or policy (and I already asked you to point me to the relevant guidelines or policies without response). On the contrary, your bold deletion of my article is absolutely disruptive and out of process. SO, let's make it easy, if my article is improper for the mainspace and fails notability criteria just nominate it for deletion so you will be free to reinstate your silly redirect, otherwise stop your disruptive edit warring. --Cavarrone 18:18, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • This isn't about redirecting to whom ever. I only advised you to do the right thing. I'm indifferent...and I'm just gonna leave it and you, for another editor to point the article out. And if no one does, it's still cool. Regards.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 19:00, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Sorry, but the point is that your "right thing" is not prescribed by any guideline or policy, and everyone is allowed to expand a redirect into an article. Expanding redirect pages is rather common, and during the years me myself had dozens of redirect pages I created turned into articles, eg It Was I (originally a redirect to Sono stato io), Armando Francioli, or Les Chemins de Katmandou. The only important thing is verifying if the newly created articles pass notability criteria or not, and if possibly non-notable the proper process is nominating them for deletion, not blindly overturn without even checking them. My best, Cavarrone 19:20, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Buddhist Temple.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Buddhist Temple.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

Peter of Spain (author) edit

Per your vote there, you're certainly entitled to your opinion but I would like to point out:

  • the mover's claim that the 13th-century logician is the PRIMARYTOPIC was based on an encyclopedia of philosophy article. Yes, logicians are more important than popes in that context but not generally.
  • the identity of the two contemporary Peters of Spain is often assumed but, in the better modern scholarship, not a sure thing.

Given that this isn't merely an encyclopedia of philosophy and popes are far more notable generally, I'm in favor of keeping a solid dab pending a consensus that these two are the same person. If they are, it belongs at the pope's article anyway. — LlywelynII 21:52, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I didn't move anything. You are the mover, Llywelyn. What sources was your move based on? I quoted the Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages, not an encyclopedia of philosophy, which tells us that "the most significant [Peter of Spain] is the logician".
The question of PRIMARYTOPIC has nothing to do with which of the logician Peter of Spain and Pope John XXI is the more notable. The proposed move (rather, revert of your undiscussed move) is not predicated on identifying the logician with the pope, but on keeping them distinct. The dab page is, as explained already, simply unnecessary. Srnec (talk) 22:42, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ciao Cavarró! Tutto apposto?

--Cavarrone 10:48, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello again Cavarrone. Have made another page today, this time for Vanna Vanni, with a glamourous photo too from the Italian Wikipedia. - Xenxax (talk) 02:40, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

This one is a tough one. I can't find anything, no obituaries, no entries in the couple encyclopedias I own, no news articles... I'll search deeper, but I'm a bit skeptical this time! --Cavarrone 06:37, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for looking ... much appreciated. I didn't find a lot of information myself, but she is listed 28 times for different films in the Italian film encyclopedia that I referenced. She also has a larger page on the Italian Wikipedia. And there are VIAF numbers for her, though I was not able to get 'authority control' to work. Thanks again! - Xenxax (talk) 11:58, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

She worked in an age of the Italian cinema (1930s-first half of 1940s) which is often very hard to source! She apparently retired in 1943, shortly before the Italian film industry exploded. Outside hardly-to-find newspapers and magazines of the time, there are a few books which specifically cover this age and the actors of this period, but unfortunately I do not own them. --Cavarrone 12:28, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I see that she is listed a few times in another encyclopedia, Storia del cinema italiano, 1895-1961 (Carlo Lizzani, Giovanni Vento, Mino Argentieri) [1], but can understand how there is not much searchable information from that era. Again, thanks very much for looking into the subject! - Xenxax (talk) 13:08, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've done some more editing on the Vanna Vanni page this afternoon; taking it about as far as I can go. Discovered a New York Times review from 1939 ...and this reference book which may be of interest to you: [2] Thanks again for your help! - Xenxax (talk) 21:30, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

"Roma, ore 11" edit

Hello Cavarrone. Thanks for the thanks re. Orso Maria Guerrini. By the way I did a couple hours work this morning on the movie, Rome 11:00, upgrading it from a "stub" ... I noticed that 15 months ago you did a few edits on the page, adding the movie poster. I added a second photo, a shot of all the women on the staircase, from the Italian Wikipedia; hopefully it won't get deleted. - Xenxax (talk) 21:25, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry, the image will not be deleted, the source is clear and it is clearly eligible under PD-Italy. If you look at my contributions at Commons, I uploaded hundreds of such images. A few of them were recently nominated for deletion, but eventually kept (see here). Thank u for your contributions, especially the copyediting (I should thank you for each and every edit you makes, take my occasional "thank you" as broader, collective thanks for the whole of your work). You are always welcome in reviewing/fixing my poor English. Keep it up! Cavarrone 21:36, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your English is very excellent, but thank you, and you're welcome as well. I enjoy working with the Italian cinema pages ... my favorite movies. I only wish I could speak Italian so I didn't have to read the sub-titles! By the way, I just put up a page on Lina Marengo. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any available photos of her. - Xenxax (talk) 00:53, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

A concern I'd like to share with you edit

Hi there Cavarrone! I happen to talk page stalk SwisterTwister and noticed your comments on his talk page alongside those of Biwom earlier. Specifically this edit, where you say "Vagueness and laziness are not a great business card for a Wikipedia editor. I suspect you sometimes confuse Wikipedia with some sort of WIKIPEDIA:THE VIDEOGAME, where you can spent your spare time trying to make the record for the more copy-pasted AfD votes per minute, or the more proposed deletions per hour." I happen to agree that occasionally SwisterTwister is a little quick on the trigger at times and I do wish he would be more contextually verbose in his votes and PRODs. On the whole, however, I think he works very hard to do a tedious but necessary job here on Wikipedia and I think he does a fairly decent job of it. I do, however, wish to respectfully offer my personal opinion that your comments came across a bit uncivil and seem as though you may not be assuming good faith on the part of SwisterTwister. Perhaps you could offer some more constructive criticism? You did offer some regarding the Simon Abkarian article, but I'm not sure that the best example you could offer. The article you referred to is a completely unsourced BLP with only two external links to non-RS websites. Personally, while I disagree with deleting the article (as the subject does actually appear to be notable), I can't fault SwisterTwister for thinking a PROD was appropriate. Thank you for your time and best wishes to you. Chrisw80 (talk) 01:25, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Chrisw80, you're welcome! Yes, I was certainly a bit harsh, but I don't think I was anywhere wrong in my concerns. The "very hard to do, a tedious but necessary job" we should accomplish is actually sourcing, cleaning up and improving poorly-sourced articles of GNG/SNGs-passing subjects such as Simon Abkarian, not nominating them for deletion because they look ugly. Mass-prodding every poorly sourced article we encounter with inaccurate rationales, and not even bothering to notify their authors, is actually very simple. The same with copy-pasting the same rationale (with the comical effect that sometimes such rationale is not in accordance with the object of discussion and eventually turn to be meaningless) and pilling dozens of "delete" votes with a 1-AfD-at-minute rate. That's not hard work, that's playing. Probably made in good faith, but yet there is very little improvement for the encyclopedia from such a work.
A PROD is generally appropriate for deleting subjects who are almost unquestionably non-notable, if you yourself in your rationale raise some doubts the subject is ultimately notable you are misusing the PROD instrument, and wasting the community time. If you want to point an article is in bad shape you have other instruments, including using the proper templates or notifying the relevant wikiprojects and requesting assistence about a specific article. Key concepts in this sense are WP:NOTCLEANUP and WP:NEXIST.
Obviously some articles require to be deleted and even speedy deleted, but you have to have a thing called discernment. While S.T. is certainly able to identify a well-sourced article and a poorly sourced one, I am increasingly doubtful they are able to distinguish between a poorly sourced article about a non-notable subject and a poorly sourced article about a clear notable subject. You can't proposing for deletion Laura Chiatti, one of the major stars in the actual Italian cinema industry who also passes GNG by a country mile with literally several thousand of news articles about her in the major Italian news sources, and with such a poor rationale [3]. Either you are unable to do a decent WP:BEFORE, which is a very serious concern for someone who is basically only active in AfDs and PRODs, or you are too lazy to perform your searches and eventually improve the articles, which is not much better. That user has troubled me for a long, long time. I very occasionally take the time/trouble to write such comments, by the sort of, well, disruptive carelessness of this in discussion after discussion has troubled me for a long time. I assume that posting such a comment is a polite way to caution editors to avoid problematic behavior. I also do it in the hope that other editors to concur, which I hope will persuade editors like this to be more careful about checking sources before opining. I have no history with this editor beyond frequently bringing sources to pages that she has dismissed with no evidence of searching for sourcing. But she has now deleted by comment from her talk page. I have never taken an editor to ANI, but now this editor has deleted my comment form her talk page. Any advice on how to persuade her to be a little more careful and check for sources?E.M.Gregory (talk) 17:37, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

AfD edit

You were right about the nomination. I just recently became aware of CAT:NN and I was appalled to see that many articles tagged. Perhaps I got carried away. As can be seen from from my AfD history, my track record is reasonably good so I hope you would not pursue a topic ban. I got interested in AfD after a somewhat contentious foray into trying to reduce the amount of articles on non-notable German WWII Knight's Cross winners, so I'm still learning. Again, I apologise for wasting the time with the AfD. K.e.coffman (talk) 07:02, 8 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
