My revert of your edit.on WWI tanks

I understand but I think you left out somethings that should of been retained including the experimental and prototypes. I'd also like to keep the IP editor onboard if possible; avoiding an edit war (they are quite determined) and alienation. Of course, we can also go back to your edit and build upon it. Our project

Hi, Cavalryman - hope you've been getting plenty of sleep!!   Well...the dog project has been quite an undertaking - I may change my user name to Morticia. I can only imagine what Doc James and the Project Med team are faced with day-to-day considering all the home-health cures, snake oil treatments, and quacks they have to deal with - and that involves human health!! Yikes! There actually are parallels between the two, particularly as it relates to RS and fictitious dog breeds - quacks selling snake oil vs puppy mill breeders selling fake breeds - it all boils down to crooks and the almighty $$. Anyway...I'm going to request a DRV for the Catahoula bulldog close. I thought consensus to redirect/nmerge/delete was blindingly obvious based on the failure to establish GNG and V. Oh well...Atsme Talk 📧 23:04, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Atsme, thank you very much. It is frustrating, I too think a review of the Catahoula bulldog decision is warranted. Otherwise I was thinking of reducing the article to a one or two paragraph stub, removing from all navboxes and only linking it from American Bulldog, Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog and List of dog crossbreeds.
On a brighter note, it will be a little easier without our mutual friend IQ125 interfering, it was his description of you as a deletionist that made me twig, I too have been described as such. Cavalryman (talk) 04:27, 23 August 2019 (UTC).
Agree! There is a lot of work to be done. Ugh! Hopefully we can get more project members to get active again - like William Harris for example. We should also be able to encourage more knowledgeable editors to join the project. Maybe stage a contest or something? Atsme Talk 📧 13:47, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Atsme, it would be great to see some new editors or some returned experienced ones, William Harris attempted to reboot the project two years ago (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dogs/Archive 10#The future of WikiProject dogs), unfortunately it concluded with the project being declared semi-active. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 10:41, 27 August 2019 (UTC).
It’s active now, Cavalryman - I started a draft User:Atsme/sandbox so feel free to add your thoughts as well. Once we have the most important elements laid out, we can begin crafting the notability guideline and wikilink to existing guidelines. I’m pinging other potential collaborators with experience in this area or hopefully have an interest in joining Project Dogs (if not members already) or would just like to help us craft the guidelines - Montanabw, Justlettersandnumbers, Dawnleelynn, SMcCandlish, White Arabian Filly, Dwanyewest. Atsme Talk 📧 11:15, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Crickey - an east coast boy, and probably ex-2 Cav as well!
2017 was a champagne year for me on Wikipedia. Three Canis FAs and I also managed to fit in an attempt to reboot WikiProject Dogs, in vain. The issues then are the issues now, which is why I exhibit little interest. The editor behaviour among the dog-pack drove me further towards the wolf-pack, where I run with a strong pack and where fools are dealt with most brutally. I recall when one of my ally's got so upset with the state of the lede in the Dog article he trotted over there and just tore it to shreds, leaving the dog editors in shock for a couple of weeks - it still largely reads as he wrote it over 2 years ago. This is what you folk need to get this undertaking going- to be courageous, hard, fierce, and work as a pack. In the meantime, we wolves watch, and we wait....... William Harris talk  11:25, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Well, I'm not particularly active in dog articles, but for what it's worth I'm certainly prepared to offer my 2p on the reliability of sources (on which I have fairly exacting personal standards). I did notice a list of sources posted at ANI that looked like an excellent beginning for a list of references that should not be used. I suspect that a good deal of useful notability/sourcing guidance could be taken straight from the revised WP:NCORP. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:37, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
... except that it wasn't at ANI, but here, of course. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:03, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

It's music to my ears! And it's not only the quality of sources, but we also have context issues. For example, I deleted material from Catahoula Bulldogs that was cited to a RS but the material on pg 174 was irrelevant to the article, was nothing more than the name "Catahoula Bulldog" in a list of breeds that the author claimed are either revivals or breeds in development (published 2005) and they quoted some unknown breeder who said "I do not sanction the AKC" - ha!! Of course not - the AKC refused their undocumented/poorly documented, unverifiable breed. The author used terms like "raft of niche bulldogs currently in development" and "attempts to revive defunct breeds, others the creations of stylin' breeders". WP is not the place to help them revive or promote their unrecognized, "defunct" or "stylin' breeds" that few have even heard about. I find it remarkable how some editors will go to great lengths to make something work - reminds me of a bad farrier putting a small cold shoe on a horse that has a much bigger hoof, so they whittle down the hoof to fit the shoe, not realizing the damage they're doing to the hoof wall and frog. Ridiculous. Bottomline - the sources must establish N first, not the other way around, as in I've written an OR article now find the RS to fit it. Above all, dates matter, context matters, and with all marketing ploys and scams running rampant on today's internet, CIR and due diligence are required. Atsme Talk 📧 16:16, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

William Harris, yes Victorian and formerly of 2 Cav. I now believe WikProject Dogs should have adopted the full expansion proposal back then, some of that pack brutality would be most welcome in the domestic dog article space.
Justlettersandnumbers, reliability of sources is (in my opinion) one of the greatest challenges here as a number non-notable articles rely solely on self published works or “breed” fancier websites. Strict adherence to RS would solve many our problems.

some time no contact

Hello, Cavalryman for some time we had no contact. In the mean I did some work on S & B. I just changed some pics in Sellier & Bellot. If you like to read this translation ? It took me some time to put this together. Cheers --Tom (talk) 13:38, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Hello Tom, it has been a while, I hope you are well. I think the only firearm or ammunition articles I have written since last we spoke are 6.5×57mm Mauser, Swinburn–Henry and a long overdue rewrite of the .577/450 Martini–Henry, whilst I have written a couple of articles on some famous elephant hunters, P. C. "Pete" Pearson and R. J. D. "Samaki" Salmon. In the last few months I have been quite busy so not as active writing, just making minor edits. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 11:26, 24 October 2019 (UTC).
Hello, Cavalryman! WOW I just had a short glimpse on this articles from you. Impressive works on historic themes & persons! It's so nice to see colleagues performing so well as you do. Sorrowfully news articles i didn't write on myself for a good while. There is so much to do in corrections & improvements. I wish you all the best from the heart and, above all, good health. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Hello "tankie", be aware of this "disturbance in the Force": User talk:Atsme. William Harris talk  10:21, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

AFD - crickey! You cannot stop the Cav when they are in the mood for an assault! William Harris talk  10:16, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Haha, it’s surprising what you come across when you go through a few categories. Cavalryman (talk) 10:21, 28 November 2019 (UTC).
Keep up the good work. It is similar to acquiring an ancient and overgrown garden. The first thing to do is be sure of what you might keep, and remove everything else. Then you can have a good look at what you have left. Happy pruning! William Harris talk  00:57, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
Many thanks, this time of year the knapsack filled with roundup gets a good workout. Cavalryman (talk) 01:02, 29 November 2019 (UTC).
Another one for a future cull - Kyi-Leo. William Harris talk  22:27, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
Bear in mind that if you change one of these AFD articles into a redirect, then on the Talk page change class=redirect, as they are no longer articles. Once your "great extinction event" is completed, we will review what articles are left under WikiProject Dogs and then ascertain which remaining "articles" are actually redirects. William Harris talk  20:14, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Will do, I had forgotten about the project banner. Cavalryman (talk) 20:21, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
I had started working through the project's article list, but there are too many entries to sift through. It will be best done when the number is more manageable. William Harris talk  21:16, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Cockapoo

Hi, CM - I'm pretty sure Cockapoo is notable - it has a dictionary entry - and it's really popular. My suggestion is to withdraw that one. I'm also wondering if maybe we could tie all the non-notable articles into one discussion and knock 'em all out in one felled sweep? I've done that on a few non-notable stubs that a single author created on a variety of topics but not sure if it would work for dogs. Maybe William Harris has some ideas. Atsme Talk 📧 01:18, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Atsme, that link & the NYT article both really only say this is a cross between a cocker & a poodle, and that was the only attributable information about them that I could find. I feel that's short of an article. The cross is mentioned at List of dog crossbreeds, if it felt this one should be a redirect I won't be unhappy, the next task will be to cite the latter page and remove all unattributable entries. I has probably being overly ambitious nominating all 15 pages together, I should likely have divided it into three or four noms. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 03:33, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
Using the List of dog fatalities in the US as an example, there will always be some articles that people want to defend, whatever their motivation for doing so. Getting bogged down in these battles depletes our energies that could be directed elsewhere. This being the case, I prefer our current "guerrilla warfare" approach of hit-and-run on a number of fronts, at a time of our choosing. Cavalryman is conducting one of the biggest sweep-outs I have seen with Dogs, we lose one and gain 5, and I think the current approach is working well. It will be a long, tedious struggle - we will not get all that we want, but we will get most of them. The failures can wait for another time. William Harris talk  03:42, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Crikey! I just saw the next tranche of 15 - the cavalry is charging! It may be a bit ambitious, but let us see how this goes. Be aware that many of these articles were started as a monument to somebody's dog that has passed away, with photos taken of that dog and placed in the articles. If there has been a passage of time we may be lucky; if not there will be some "unpleasantness". William Harris talk  03:55, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
We will see, hopefully they present cogent arguments to keep. I have just added a sixteenth Jackabee, definitely an attempt (in the last week) by someone get their dog onto the internet. If the whole lot gets knocked back then I will pick through the ruins and nominate individually. Cavalryman (talk) 04:05, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
Beagaleer AfD. We shall in future refer to this as "The Beagaleer Incident", and something we shall not try again. (I managed to get in a last "bite" before it was closed properly, which led to some unpleasantness - for me, it was all worth it just for that.) Try to keep your fuel consumption steady on the run-up to Xmas, "Tanky"! Cheers, William Harris talk  04:34, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
William Harris, I was mid-way through adding my 2c to the talk page when DGG ended it, but I was appreciative. Yes I agree, back to guerrilla tactics I think, my intention is to let the dust settle and re-engage after Christmas, the close intimated a list article would be the best way forward, for now I’ll focus on WWI armoured cars. Have a Merry Christmas, I hope you aren’t sweltering too much in this heat. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 05:00, 20 December 2019 (UTC).
As long as they continue to sell beer in some form of transportable container and we have a machine at home to cool it, I will survive our 4 days of 40+ Adelaide "weather" (for want of a better term). I am currently running two large air conditioners, so we are doing fine. A merry Christmas and a safe New Year to you and your family. William Harris talk  05:06, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
It was my initial suggestion and I apologize for the repercussions. I have participated in a couple of AfDs that lumped together 4 or 5 at once - one I remember in particular was initiated by an admin, and involved 4 or 5 BLPs of young female athletes that competed successfully nationally/internationally and placed in the Youth Olympics. I actually opposed deletion but consensus supported it. Apparently, mixed breed dogs are considered more encyclopedic. 😕 Atsme Talk 📧 09:39, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, and yes your counsel was spot on. Upon reflection 17 was always going tough, I doubt anyone would have noticed 17 separate nominations. I will look to renominate a couple and merge a few more soon, and if no one fixes up those remaining I think we should nominate them for merger too. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 10:56, 20 December 2019 (UTC).

Perdiguero Galego

Hi! Unfortunately I missed your notification of this at WT:DOGS. The breed is apparently notable, though in danger of extinction. See Miguel Fernández Rodríguez, Mariano Gómez Fernández, Juan Vicente Delgado Bermejo, Silvia Adán Belmonte, Miguel Jiménez Cabras (eds.) (2009). Guía de campo de las razas autóctonas españolas (in Spanish). Madrid: Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino. ISBN 9788449109461, pages 566–568. That's more or less the same as the content here, but published at national ministry level. Unfortunately the article was a pretty direct translation of it, so probably a copyright violation. I think these are strong sources, and with some other mentions enough to base a short article on. Thoughts? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:03, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Justlettersandnumbers, it could be my firewall but I cannot open the first link, just a warning about attempts to steal personal data. Both sources look reliable and I think two sources would warrant a page. Interestingly our colleagues at Spanish Wikipedia acknowledge it exists but have yet to write a page [1]. Atsme & William Harris thoughts? Cavalryman (talk) 10:32, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
Hmm! What happens if you go to the search page of the ministry and enter "perdiguero galego" (N.B., miss-spelt)? I only get one hit, to the book above. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:44, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Still no good, it seems to be the whole www.mapa.gob.es/ website. Cavalryman (talk) 10:55, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
Hola! Highlight the document name above, do a google search on it, there is a PDF available, download it and go to page 566 - I confirm that there is a section on this dog that ends on the top of page 568. William Harris talk  11:34, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
What I've found that may prove helpful as to whether we delete, merge or ?? From the seventies, with the introduction of foreign races, it was very mixed and practically absorbed by the German Pointers and Bracos, which caused the decline and the practical disappearance of this breed. Translation. Atsme Talk 📧 14:01, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Extract: "From the seventies...attempts are being made to recover from the few specimens that can still be found in greater or lesser purity..." Hmmmm, that was nearly 50 years ago when Led Zeppelin ruled the world. No update since then? Did they restore the breed from these "few specimens" or not? Nobody appears to officially know. It sounds as if select breeders have gotten into the department's ear. William Harris talk  20:25, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
Justlettersandnumbers, William Harris & Atsme, I have have completed a draft article for the Perdiguero Galego (User:Cavalryman/Sandbox 3), and would appreciate any feedback before recreating the article. Further, I am trying to make sense of Spanish copyright laws ([2] & [3]) to see if I can use of the images on the government pages, can any of you provide advice or know where we could get a picture? Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 09:02, 8 December 2019 (UTC).
Very nice work, Cavalryman, and much more complete than what I would have done if I'd ever got round to it. I suggest moving it to mainspace (or I will if you like?). NB the section title here is mis-spelt – breed name is Perdigueiro Galego with two "i"s as in your draft, don't ask me why it's different from the Perdiguero de Burgos. Atsme, I hope it's not unreasonable to assume that if the Xunta of Galicia approved a breed club and a breed standard in 2001, there must have been at least a few of the dogs around to justify the work involved. How similar they were to those of a hundred years earlier is another question – look what's happened to the German Shepherd in that time! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:54, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks, I will move it now. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 12:07, 8 December 2019 (UTC).
