 Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:14, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Conjurer (band)

edit

Nice job on making Conjurer (band)! I had their article down as one to create after I got back from Bloodstock today, but it seems you beat me to it. Will try and help you expand and tidy it up. Let me know if you need a hand with the creation of any other articles about bands in the UK scene, I've also noticed Wikipedia is lacking a few major ones. pinktoebeans (talk) 14:28, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much. It's only the second one I've done, so I know I've a lot to learn. I'll watch the changes you make to it with interest.
I've got a sort of two-tiered list of others I'm looking to do:
Bands that either have a lot of coverage or are prominent enough within the scene that they ought to have articles:
  • Cage Fight
  • Pupil Slicer
  • Saor
  • A Forest of Stars
  • Wode
  • Party Cannon
  • Seth (must be plenty of references for them but reading it might be slow going because my French is only at GCSE level)
Bands that I would like to write articles about, but am not sure they meet notability criteria:
  • Mountain Caller
  • Tableau Mort
  • Boss Keloid
I expect both to expand faster than I can write articles about them. There's also a fairly easy win in sorting out the referencing for Bossk (band), when I get round to it.
I'm going at my own steady pace and have a fair bit on, so any help greatly appreciated!
I didn't manage Bloodstock this year because I did Kilkim Žaibu as my big fest instead. Caught Conjurer opening for Carcass last month, though.
CasualInterestInManyThings (talk) 16:16, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Great to see your plan! Seth should be easy enough to create from their French article and corresponding Wikidata, I also have a barely GCSE grasp of the language but have managed to roughly adapt French wiki articles before. I'm also surprised Cage Fight and Pupil Slicer in particular don't already have articles, they've been doing the festival circuits and have a lot of media coverage. Best of luck with them, if I have time I may get started on one or the other soon. Bossk were one of the highlights of my Bloodstock this weekend, so I'd be delighted to help expand their page. Not heard of Kilkim Žaibu, but it looks fantastic, a very different atmosphere to UK festivals! Hope you enjoyed it.
And if you were at the Carcass show in Liverpool, you might have bumped into me in the pit... pinktoebeans (talk) 16:36, 14 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Added a little bit to the article about Curse These Metal Hands and nominated it for a DYK, with you as an article co-author. Maybe we'll see it on the front page soon! pinktoebeans (talk) 14:05, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

That's fun! Didn't get the reference, but then I never really watched Peep Show...
Just making a start in my sandbox on A Forest of Stars, by the way. Predictably fewer sources than Conjurer or Green Lung. Has a consensus ever been reached on whether https://www.angrymetalguy.com/ is usable? I've been pointed towards Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources as the place to start for references in music articles, but that site doesn't get mentioned one way or the other. It seems to meet the criteria of an online publication with a (probably volunteer) staff independent from the band and has been used in other articles so I guess it's OK unless there's consensus otherwise somewhere? CasualInterestInManyThings (talk) 18:48, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
From what I can find there hasn't been consensus on that particular source. I would go by WP:BLOGS and WP:NEWSBLOGS when considering the reliability of online publications, particularly the statement "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications". I'm unsure if the writers at Angry Metal Guy are professionals or have any notable publications under their names, as opposed to the writers at Distorted Sound (another online magazine/blog) who have written for Metal Hammer and other published, more traditional and notable publications. Personally, I'd try to find more traditional sources. pinktoebeans (talk) 22:58, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Conjurer (band)

edit

On 11 November 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Conjurer (band), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Conjurer has contributed to a musical project named after a quote from the sitcom Peep Show? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Conjurer (band). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Conjurer (band)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Draft:Pupil Slicer has been created

edit

Hi CasualInterestInManyThings, hope you're doing well! I've started a draft article for Pupil Slicer, and as you've mentioned you're interested in seeing an article about them being created, I wanted to let you know in case you wanted to help contribute. I don't know a whole lot about them and don't listen to them often, so if you do I would very much appreciate your help! All the best :) pinktoebeans (talk) 19:46, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Got a bit excited and moved it to mainspace, any more additions would be appreciated! 21:42, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
