One more thing ... I find it useful to provide an ISBN or if that is not available an OCLC for books that I list. Especially if it is not one that is commonly known and is in an article that may be controversial. If I cannot find an ISBN, OCLC, LCCN or ASIN for a book, and no library that I can be in touch with seems to have it (because of a terrible typo, say, in the author's name), then I may have serious doubts as to whether or not the book even exists. Okay, I'm guessing this picture is old enough to be public domain now. Any way to identify what year it was created? That's the easiest approach here. I need some help setting up a Category page. What I'd like to see on wikipedia is Category: Sculptors who exhibited at the 3rd Sculpture International. More and more of the artists who were there are showing up at wikipedia, so there are (opinion) enough to get the category going. Here is a handful of them. Chaim Gross, Pablo Picasso, C. Paul Jennewein, Albert Wein, Adolph Alexander Weinman, Jo Davidson, Milton Horn, Jacques Lipchitz and more. There are 250 in all, though most of those are not in wikipedia . . .... yet. Anyway. Suggestion re: "Sacrifice" photo

I really do think it would be a good idea to take the photo to a local university anthropologist. Now if you do, there's a distinct possibility you'll get this response: "Oh, yeah, I've seen dozens just like that, here's my paper on it", in which case it would immediately become verifiable. Another response could be: "Fascinating, I must study this", which would be even more interesting, though it wouldn't make the sacrifice verifiable until there's a study. The other major possible response would of course be this: "Oh, that's probably just some jerk messing around with a dead dog," which is why the image is just not suitable for Wikipedia as of now. The problem is, we just don't have verifiable information that anyone habitually sacrifices dogs in this manner. Thanks.--Pharos 05:42, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

• Hi. As I understand it, the objection to use of the photo appears to be that one doesn't know whether the animal was sacrificed or not. It certainly has a ritual appearance of some sort. But perhaps the animal died first, not having been intentionally killed by anyone, and then someone performed a commemorative ritual by placing stones around it. Considering the uncertainty involved, why not include the photo with a caption along the lines of, "The sacrifice of an animal often entails some sort of ritual arrangement or placement of the corpse. The careful display of the dead animal seen in this photo suggests that it may have been sacrificed, although this is not known with certainty. The photo was taken by a hiker in New Mexico who happened on the scene."

[Here you might add, if you know, some information as to whether people living in the vicinity, perhaps native Americans, have any history or tradition of engaging in animal sacrifice.]

• The observant rock is excellent! Has someone analyzed what they feel is depicted in it? A face, etc.? And the photo has the highly desired token red (remembrance?) blooms. One thing that is hard to see in the photo that the carcass is in fact a dog ... looks more fox like from the bit I can see. It is hard to get a sense of size from the photo since there isn't anything in it that I immediately see for scale purposes. A 75 lb. dog is a pretty big dog. Being of the meathead/meatball variety myself and, contrary to rumour, not that much of a Dickhead I'm perhaps not the best authority on that phallus thing (could be a lingam though), but I'm sure to trust you with the expertise. Visiting your Userpage I had this great feeling of Déja vu; that "Wired" thing brought it home. It's "On The Road"...That great highway in the sky, the dharma bums...

About the expertise thing. For a moment I thought "Man and His Symbols" by Carl Jung, Jaffé e.a. might give, but it just skirts the issue. Section 3, by Henderson in the last few paragraphs of his contribution (can't well cite, have it in French) gets very close with his analysis of a sky rocket (related to phallic symbolism of Hermes). At least it has a very suggestive fotograph. I am sure you know it. Still have not had a clear read of the Phallus article though.

Now, if we could prove that towers sometimes take off like sky rockets...HA! The b*ggers are panicking already!

Well, it's probably something to consider on a case-by-case basis. Here, the archaeologist clearly has access to the transcripts; the question is whether they're something the general public can get at (in which case you'd have a fairly legitimate claim for using them as primary sources).

Now I see that John Davidson (general) has suddenly appeared. I went to Santa Fe (the capitol of New Mexico) two days ago - went to the State Library and Historical Archives and found a copy of his biography by his grandson, Xeroxed the pages regarding the Battle of Cieneguilla and am reviewing those. The real interesting part of his story (opinion) begins when he returns to the West after the Civil War as on officer for the Buffalo Soldiers. Now I will have to get that book again. HOWEVER - our connection began when you responded to a question of mine regarding original research. I have now found the letter from Lt. Bell written shortly after Cieneguilla in which Bell, who was out here (Northern New Mexico) at the time presents a very different view of the fight and makes some of the allegations that lead to the Official Inquiry. A typed version of Bell's letter was given to me by the archeologist who was investigating the battle a few years ago and I have no idea how, or even IF the general public could access it. So do I use the letter in the article or not? Actually I will use it, but and any one else, will get to decide if the POV contained in it is admissible or not. Life . It is supposed to be interesting. I also have a large piece of the transcript of the Court of Inquiry that I hope to get around to including. Carptrash 15:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

When i titled the sections "The role of Lieutenant Davidson" and "Court of inquiry" i wanted to give a context to the battle. I am not meaning by that that i wanted to focus on Davidson's mishandling of the battle or the opposite but i just wanted to focus on the encyclopaedic aspect of the battle. So, IMHO, the letter is of a high encyclopaedic value and should be mentioned. However, we should not, in any case, argue about its content. In other words, we can only state what's in it without judging its content (i.e. saying the allegations are right or not). This approach respects the nature of NPOV. If we read carefully the article as it is now, we will notice that the two sections above-mentioned do not give credit to neither Bell nor Davidson and so should be the letter. You must have been at Eastern when George Gervin was there? Around that time if you mention Haywood, or am I off a few years? Gargoyle picture

Hi there - sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I very seldom bother to log in to Wikipedia nowadays, so it's typically about a month before I notice messages left for me!

Anyway, you left a comment about a gargoyle picture of mine. As I recall, I've contributed two photographs to the article - one is a grotesque on the gallery of Notre Dame in Paris, and the other is looking down on the channel in a gargoyle on Sacre Coeur in Paris.

Beginnings of Art Deco

1910 is a good starting date for Art Deco because the beginning of Art Deco was influenced by the Futurist painter's manifesto of 1910 and the Armory Show of 1913 where the Cubist painters inspired early Art Deco. I'm not sure what else the page needed - do I need to put a lot of information about her, or just information pertaining to the song? It's hard to find information on this song that's specifically about/by her, because Youngs results keep coming in as well. Second W. S. Stratton statue

It's not the greatest foto, but I did have a picture of the Stratton statue in downtown Colorado Springs, and I have uploaded it to the article. No equestrian statue here. "Winfield Scott Stratton" is clearly legible on the base of the statue. It's obviously on Nevada Avenue, but I forget the cross street.Plazak 03:03, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the photos. Let's have some more! Need University of Detroit photos, especially U-D Law School downtown Dowling Hall at 651 E Jefferson. Bankers Trust at Congress & Shelby in Detroit (is that Parducci's work?), the detailed facade in the arches of Cadillac Place (is that Parducci's carving?), Detroit Free Press building (321 West Lafayette) by Albert Kahn, Metropolitan Building at 33 & John R, and the Hurbut Memorial Gate at Waterworks Park (E Jefferson at Cadillac Blvd). Also need photos of Cranbrook House, Cranbrook School at 39221 Woodward, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Cranbrook Science Institute, there is already a photo of the Cranbrook Art Museum, but some better close ups of the statues would be nice, Christ Church Cranbrook, Belle Isle Scott Fountain, Louis Kamper's Eighth Precinct looks like a "Castle" at 4150 Grand RiverThomas Paine1776 22:44, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

An excellent photo angle would be a color one of the Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument (Randolph Rogers sculpture) with the new emerald green glass One Kennedy Square in the background on Campus Martius. There is one like this in the external link under One Kennedy Square for Downtown Detroit Photographs. Then another photo of the monument with the golden topaz Compuware World Headquarters. Also, are you aware of the magnificent facade of Detroit Cornice & Slate Co (1897) at 733 Antoine. Wirt Rowland was the Architect for the Bankers Trust Company (1925) (low rise) at Congress & Shelby, so it seems Parducci would have had to have done the magnificent sculptures.
