Wot's all this? edit

This talk page is far too empty. Wikipedia has too many people that I'm sure I could converse scintillatingly with, and I've made far too many controversial edits for there to be no-one with anything to say. Let's fill this page up! ;) Carolynparrishfan 19:54, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

"Wikipedia has too many people that I'm sure I could converse scintillatingly with..." No, no! ...Don't end a sentence with a preposition. Say, instead: "Wikipedia has too many people with whom I'm sure I could converse scintillatingly." Besides, I vindicated you, in part on the ordination of women article by finding assertions that support one woman's ordination; I found material in opposition too, and I added it for balance: [1] [2] [3]--GordonWatts 06:48, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Have you ever heard Winston Churchill on the subject? "That is something up with which I will not put". See Non-Errors:Those usages people keep telling you are wrong but which are actually standard in English. Thanks for the OoW help. Carolynparrishfan 14:33, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Ha ha, I heard that Winston Churchill quote for sure. I guess he made a point! Oh, the funny irregularities of English. Now, Spanish is much more regular with rules of grammar... but that's another story, as they say. Oh, BTW, here is a lookup of this restricted to pages with other common abbreviations, and OoW can mean several things. Carol P Fan, what does the OoW abbreviation mean? Thanks for your reply!--GordonWatts 03:37, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sorry! I meant Ordination of women Carolynparrishfan 13:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that's what it means. Thx. Thanks also for the kind words about my editing. I know Patsw, and he's a good guy; I am glad y'all are working this out. Ann Heneghan is another good neighbor and good editor.--GordonWatts 14:05, 27 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

AFD edit

Sorry, but I voted against your dad. I'm sure he's an awesome fellow, and I give him major props for managing a classic film festival, but for the sake of Wikipedia, but he's not notable.

And since you basically asked me :) to look at your edit history, thanks for your edits to church-related subjects. You seem quite knowledgeable about the subject. -DDerby-(talk) 03:37, 18 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Swedenborgian House of Studies edit

No problem. It's just that any location that doesn't expand out to the country can be considered 'centric' to that country; ie assuming that everyone in the world knows California is in the US, or that Toronto is in Canada, or that Sao Paolo is in Brazil assumes more knowledge about all the countries in the world than probably should be. It happens on Wikipedia all the time, but I try to add countries, etc. when I see it. Carried to the extreme, if I said just "my uncle lives in Purdy", I would consider that to be Purdy-centric, let alone US-centric. 24.17.48.241 20:55, 23 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ordination of Women edit

Hi, Carolynparrishfan. Thanks for your message. I'm actually interested in many subjects on Wikipedia, so it's unlikely that I'll be able to give undivided attention to women's ordination. By the way, I'm sure you realize that it's not appropriate to describe your edit, in the edit summary, as reverting "POV vandalism", unless the edit that you are reverting matches the definition of vandalism given by Wikipedia. I'm sure there's no reason why our different POVs should get in the way of creating a good article. Anyway, it's probably better to discuss the case of these Czech women on the talk page of the article. Hope to see you there! Ann Heneghan (talk) 22:48, 24 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

My apologies; I allowed my emotions to rule my words. I will be sure to read this policy carefully. Carolynparrishfan 17:15, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Template edit

Hello again. If you click the edit box for this section, and see what the source looks like, you can copy and paste it into your user page.

I'm not an expert in coding, but I saw that template on Mel Etitis's user page, and copied it onto my own, doing a little bit of fiddling to make it link to my talk page instead of his. I changed the width to 51%, after experimenting with different sizes. (His is 40%, and the word "page" is on a new line.) It still had that annoying arrow that goes at the end of links that are not direct links to Wikipedia pages. (Have you ever noticed that the link for a diff always has an arrow at the end?) I saw that Trevor macinnis had a similar link on his talk page, but without the arrow, and I asked him about it. He edited my user page for me to get rid of the arrow. Hope that helps. With regard to whether you should reply to my message on your page or on mine, you'll notice that some users have a preference. I don't have. If I send someone a message, I generally assume that I'll get a reply on my own talk page, but I always check the other person's talk page just in case. NPOV tag on Ordination of women edit

When you add the NPOV tag, you are obligated to open the discussion of why you believe that the article lacks neutrality.

At this point, any editor would be empowered to remove the tag and I will do so in a few hours unless there is a discussion started regarding the neutrality of the article on its talk page. patsw 17:15, 26 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Anglo-Catholicism edit

As you've edited this article in the past, I thought I'd ask you your opinion. We appear to have a rash of anonymous users messing about with the links at the bottom of the article (adding back all the links after reverts & removing the link to Anglo Catholic central). I'm taking a random guess the users are probably members of the churches whose links have been chopped from the page... but if we add one anglo-catholic parish, the list could grow exponentionally - wondered what your thoughts were? Calvin Presbyterian Church edit

Why did you remove the Toronto from this congregation's (Calvin Presbyterian Church) title??

While in Southern Ontario all you seem to find with Presbyterian Congregations is St. Andrew's, or Knox, the name Calvin PC, is not restricted to 26 Delisle at Yonge and St Clair!!

Within the PCC, one will find 18 congregations with Calvin (most CPC, a couple of Hungarian PC, and Calvin-Goforth in Saskatoon), 16 CPCs in the PCUSA (18 others called John Calvin PC), and many others....

I tried to change the page; hoever I seemed to double-post. Would you kindly try to adjust the link to either Calvin Presbyterian Church (Toronto) MY PREFERENCE, or Calvin (Toronto) Presbyterian Church?

Huron Heights Secondary School edit

Geoffrey, Please consider removing the Heroin Heights thing from the article. I appreciate you use of NPOV language. You didn't provide a source, the nick name is kind of childish, IMO, the edit isn't encyclopedic. I see you attend GW Williams, so an entry like that may lead to a senseless vandal edit war between locals. That will result in both schools appearing childish in the history logs.
