Puerto Rican Campaign

I have often asked myself, why did the U.S. invade Puerto Rico, and what did they really want? What were their true intentions? I mean the racists element never had the intention of making Puerto Rico a state since they considered Puerto Ricans an inferior people made up of mixed races. Was the battleship Maine attacked by Spain or was it that the United States was willing to sacrifice a few thousand American lives in order to expand it's territorial and military might by blowing up the ship themselves? I think that you will find very interesting the minor addition that I just made to the section "Prelude to the Puerto Rican Campaign" of the Puerto Rican Campaign article which should make you think about what I am stating here. An update from adopt a user

Hi there Caribbean H.Q.! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

The Puerto Rican Amazon is the only bird endemic to the archipelago of Puerto Rico belonging to the Neotropical genus Amazona. Measuring 28–30 cm (11–12 in), the Puerto Rican Amazon is a predominantly green parrot with a red forehead and white rings around the eyes. Two subspecies have been described, although there are doubts regarding the distinctiveness of the form gracilipes from Culebra Island, extinct since 1912. The Puerto Rican Amazon reaches sexual maturity between three and four years of age. It reproduces once a year and is a cavity nester. Once the female lays eggs she will remain in the nest and continuously incubate them until hatching. The chicks are fed by both parents and will fledge 60 to 65 days after hatching. This parrot's diet is varied and consists of flowers, fruits, leaves, bark and nectar obtained from the forest canopy. The species is the only remaining native parrot in Puerto Rico and has been listed as critically endangered by the World Conservation Union since 1994. Once widespread and abundant, the population declined drastically in the 19th and early 20th centuries with the removal of most of its native habitat; the species completely vanished from Vieques and Mona Island, nearby to the main island of Puerto Rico. Conservation efforts commenced in 1968 to save the bird from extinction. In 2006, the total estimated population was 34 to 40 individuals in the wild and 143 individuals in captivity. (more...)

I guess my confusion comes from the fact that just about all MMA fighters have written records, nearly all kickboxers have written records, many martial artists feature similar tables, and a good number of boxers have such tables including many top 10 ranked boxers. So I just don't understand why your telling me that my time used to make a nice chart was wasted because...? It takes a couple thousand MB's? Or it doesn't follow some "correct" model that I'm not familiar with. I understand the complaint if I wrote out Ray Robinson's record which is very long and has a lot of minor fights but in this case with Juanma, it's a short 30 fight record.

I'm really trying to be polite about the whole issue but I just don't see things in same way. Professional Boxing Record

I read your discussion with Ghost, I strongly disagree with removing the record which shows a technical chart regarding the historical performance of a fighter in a viewer friendly manner. Not all WP readers are interested in reading the entire article to determine the results of a match. Please direct me to the link that shows the consensus is against a record. Did boxers fail to meet GA or FA until the chart was removed or was it never there? The two are not mutually exclusive. The best example is the Miguel Cotto article which would benefit greatly from a record chart. Valoem ^talk 15:56, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

There is no consensus, only a template to follow. Of all the articles that have been promoted, only Court McGee had such a table upon review, and that was because it is actually following WP:MMA's MOS. The format of these articles needs to be consistent. Now, while Juanma has 30 fights, there's a lot of boxers with 50+. How do yo expect to keep these tables under control? If someone doesn't want to read the prose, there is already a Boxrec link in there. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:43, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I need your help with something. While researching for music, I've noticed some articles mentions albums being #1 in Puerto Rico. For example, Cristian Castro's site says that "Viva el Principe" reached #2 on the United States and #1 in Puerto Rico. Then I was reading Frankie Ruiz's bio here that Bailando reach #2 on a chart called "Farandula". I'm looking to see if Puerto Rico does its own music chart that is separate from the Billboard magazine. I respectfully disagree, I believe that the Aeria should remain its own article. Although they both report to the Ayudante General, and to the Governor, they work separately and have different missions, not to mention different cultures. Actually, the idea was to merge both and create a new article, which would include separate sub-sections to establish their respective missions, etc. We have done that with Puerto Rican Campaign and Currencies of Puerto Rico, both turning out quite well. Consensus

It has been suggested that the "List of Puerto Ricans" be moved and renamed "List of notable Puerto Ricans". The current name reflects a misleading title since it is politcally incoreect and may lead to the misconception that any Puerto Rican may be included regardless of the explanation given in the introduction. Wikipedia does not allow that the term "famous" be used since that term depends on the perspection of what an individual may consider what the term "famous" means, however the term "notable" is widely accepted by Wikipedia since there is an established criteria of the meaning of the term and there are variuos "lists" in Wikipedia which currently use the term notable. Therefore, I am calling on a 7 day consensus as to the renaming the current list to "List of notable Puerto Ricans". A total of 121 Puerto Rican soldiers were among the 8,200 people listed as missing in action during the Korean War. This total does not include people of Puerto Rican descent who were born in the mainland of the United States. It was during the Korean War that Puerto Ricans suffered the most casualties as members of an all-Hispanic volunteer unit: the 65th Infantry Regiment. One of the problems the unit faced was the language difference; the common foot soldier spoke only Spanish, while the commanding officers were mostly English-speaking. The Battle of Outpost Kelly (illustration pictured) accounted for 73 of the men missing in action from the total of 121. Out of the 73 MIAs suffered by the regiment in the month of September, 50 of them occurred on the same day: September 18. All 121 men served within the ranks of the United States Army with the sole exception of Ramón Núñez-Juárez, who served in the Marines. Their names are inscribed in El Monumento de la Recordación located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

• There are certain people in Wikipedia who have made my work here an enjoyable task. That is why I would like to share with you the reason that I have slowed down a little in my contributions. Two weeks ago I was hospitalized because of some breathing problems and it turns out that only 15% of my heart is working. I spent a week in the hospital and now I have to wear a "Life Vest" in case my heart fails. "Asi es la vida, pero pa'lante siempre".

I found Porter very interesting. I believe that his connection with Cofresi was an indirect one and not a direct one. Let me see. By October 27, 1824, David Porter was the Commodore of a squadron of 5 ships which included the John Adams, the Grampas and three others. His flagship (the main ship from which ordered the others) was the USS Macedonian. Porter acquired 8 shallow draft schooners, barges, and a riverboat. They were the USS’s Beagle, Ferret, Grayhound, Jackel, Terrier, Weasel and Wild Cat. The squadron was sent on an expedition to suppress piracy in the West Indies.

By then piracy in the West Indies had been reduced and the only concern was Roberto Cofresi and his men who had plundered a cargo ship named Neptune near Fajardo Bay. It was also reported that a store in St. Thomas was looted of over $5,000 dollars of merchandise that October. This may have been done by Cofresi and his men. The store owner reported the incident to Lt. Platt, who commanded the USS Beagle. Platt and his men headed to Fajardo where they went ashore dressed as civilians and confronted the Spanish Authorities and ended up in jail. Lt. Platt was released and he reported the incident to Commodore Porter. Porter was enraged and he set foot with some Marines on Fajardo. Fifteen minutes later, the Mayor of Fajardo and some distinguished members of the Fajardo high society made an apology to Lt. Platt.

In February 1825, Cofresi captured a Danish ship which belonged to a company situated in St. Thomas, off the coast of Ponce and looted it’s merchandize, leaving the ship abandoned in the ocean. Later that year John D. Sloat, commander of the Grampus, engaged Cofresi in a battle, which resulted in the pirates capture.

David Porter returned to the United States and on July 1825, stood before a General Court Martial held in Washington, DC because of his “Fajardo” incident. He resigned his command and join the Mexican Navy, becoming it's Commander-in-chief.

Re:Flags of Puerto Rico

The "Red Flag of 1838"? This is very interesting. I never heard of it before, but then I had never heard of half of the people that I have written about before researching and writing about them. I think that before we can include it as one of our flags that we need "real" documented proof that there was such a flag. We will need to make sure that it isn't an invented myth or legend that has been passed down and that the flag indeed existed. I wonder which was the source that the person who wrote that article used. At least the Lares flag has undeniable documented proof of what it was and what it represented to us historical wise.   Agree that the ball is in Ahnoneemoos's court, Caribbean. Apologies for the bundling, because, yes, you are correct about my familiarity with your edit history, I've only seen the AN/I thread (I *did* note you did not jump on the bandwagon but spoke your own piece clearly and stopped), plus the bottom of the Mayors talkpage, so although I know you are important in Project Puerto Rico, and an admin too, from the note further up your talkpage, that's really all. But hey, that's enough right? Thanks for improving wikipedia, because I can already tell you've done a ton, as the saying goes.  :-)   And yes, I appreciate that you are not crying "off with his head" but are rather trying to get him to be less "abrasive". It causes problems! Pillar four is not made of rubber, and Ahnoneemoos allows his passion to carry him away, rarely... but consistently. Maybe we can find a outlet where he can channel it, without being abrasive. If he were a month-old-IP or something, just ban him, right? (Hint: sarcasm in previous sentence... :-)   He's a long term contributor, with a vast record of adding good content. He makes mistakes, sure, but nobody is perfect, and nobody should have to be perfect. That said, we can all strive to improve, Ahnoneemoos sure-damn-skippy included, right? Right.

  While it is 100% true that Ahnoneemoos always acts within policy that I have seen (with two exceptions), eleven productive months go by, but every year or so there is an edit-war, and not just "one day where somebody reverted four times in 24 hours" technically-an-edit-war, but a real WP:BATTLEGROUND with longer-term consequences. Whether within policy or not, sooner or later everything gets *too* passionate, and leads to angry people like Mercy11... and then later, noticeboards, bad bitter feelings, and so on. Mercy11 methinks will settle for nothing less than a ban (perhaps they've cooled off now though?), but I'm really quite certain that course is bad for wikipedia, Ahnoneemoos *can* learn, they were banhammered in 2010 (non-punitively) and they learned. Vast contributions do not excuse bad behavior. So how do we proceed? I'm willing to act as the go-between, and try and get Ahnoneemoos to make the first move, towards... what, exactly?

  Is it just the profanity thing that bugs folks in the Puerto Rico articles the most? Is it the personal quirk about no-chit-chat-on-the-Ahnoneemoos-talkpage-get-back-to-polishing-the-pedia? Those things are in policy, but they can prolly be mitigated. Maybe we can find somebody willing to be Ahnoneemoos's wiki-secretary, who "answers the door" with a smile and a hello, and explains what Ahnoneemoos would say, if they believed talkpage chitchat was ever helpful?  :-)   Sounds funny, but I think it is a ha-ha-only-serious proposal, that might really help... if the talkpage thing is really the problem. We have five bazillion other rules and guidelines and essays here, of course, most of them are 100% optional, but I strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with WP:OUTING, it will do you good. In a nutshell, you should never attempt to post personally-identifiable information about any editor, which they have not themselves revealed on-wiki. You have done so; please self-revert immediately, and be more careful in the future. I can then explain to you how one goes about contacting a special person called an oversighter.

  Or wait... perhaps you've been here longer than that? Hmmmm... your custom username suggests you are a proud wikipedian already. Consider yourself trouted. Go read WP:BITE again please. On the other hand, just because you are an experienced wikipedian, doesn't mean you know about recent advances in computer networking, or the technology aspect of privacy. Maybe I can help you twice today. There is little risk to me from fellow wikipedians; most of your stated security-concerns are last-millenium issues. (The modern risks are from government agencies and hypercorps... they have easy access to my IP whether I login as a pseudonym or not... and that applies to you also, please check your premises if you think a username is any protection against the adversaries which could actually *matter*.)

  Nowadays, as opposed to in the 1990s, there are things like ubiquitous hardware firewalls, and most ISPs provide traffic analysis. This latter serves two purposes: it detects (and often automatically blocks) malware sigs, and it allows the ISP to monitor every page their customers visit (then sell that valuable dataset to the highest bidder). HTTPS cannot protect you from such monitoring; see DNS. As to your blacklist question, it is a more recent trend, which I only just found out about myself this year: Verizon in California, and also presumably the upstream-backbone-carrier of SLB, is now providing range-lists of all their small business and residential and institutional customers (like hospitals and schools and such) to the folks that run Spamhaus and the like. This is a preventative pre-emptive blacklisting (greylisting really although possibly APEWS is not that subtle) of typical "n00b" computer systems, who visit untrusted sites, and get p0wned, and thus inserted into a botnet.

  Many of the botnets are used for spam: once the botmaster has conquered several million pizza restaurants and soccer mommies and school-library-kiosk-PC-systems, they sell spamming-capacity to the highest bidder on the blackmarket, and then remotely-install SMTP MTAs on every p0wned box, sending a few spams from each (but millions in aggregate). This type of distributed low-volume-per-node attack is difficult to block with bayesian heuristics (which btw is what prevents connection-flooding of anon editors nowadays... the ISPs have intelligent routers which automatically detect and prevent such script-kiddie trickery now). Thus, partially in response to such threats, it seems the telecom giants have decided to greylist *all* customers that aren't paying for Business Grade Internet, from being able to send out SMTP packets.

  I've seen this on at least five distinct investigations, but only know the names of the businesses responsible for the decisions in a couple cases... that said, since BGI typically costs 3x to 5x what the consumer-grade-internet folks get charged, it is obvious that a hypercorp with lock-in tendencies would be happy to pre-emptively blacklist the low-caste customers... good for the bottom line! Anyways, since this explanation of your questions is longer than your paragraph of insinuations, and since it's all just written by a low-caste anon anyways, prolly you won't bother to have read it. Such is life. The true answer is "philosophical reasons" related to improving wikipedia, for CHQ or any other folks that *did* make it this far. There is one thing and maybe the most important thing that we must take in consideration about he Red Flag of 1838. Was the flag intended to be the flag of the Republic of Puerto Rico? Is there anywhere or any place that proofs that the revolutionist mentioned that it would be the official flag of the new republic? or, was the flag meant to be a symbol of the revolution and it's movement similar to the political flags of today?

If there is any undeniable proof that the Red Flag of 1838, was to represent the Republic of Puerto Rico, such as La Bandera de Lares which was officially declared as such during El Grito de Lares, then it should be included. That is also my hope. Which of these options offered by Nil appeals to you, CHQ — and Mercy11 too for that matter, if you wish to change your preference?

1. continue the discussion among yourselves ... and try to reach some sort of accord ((this is the option I'm attempting to implement... in as few words as necessary but no fewer))
2. ...in an appropriate place, perhaps one of your talk pages ... ((but I don't care what venue we use...as long as it ain't Ahnoneemoos's talkpage where no non-encyclopedic chit-chat is allowed))
3. open an RFC ((Mercy11 prefers this option, specifically RfC/U, but was unwilling to file it themselves at this juncture))
4. open a new concise request, probably at WP:AN ((Nil_Einne pointed out that WP:AN is for long-history-t-bans... whereas AN/I is for recent incidents... but would not likely fly without RfC/U first))
5. or, just drop it ((methinks the worst option... it will just fester... this is not grudge-o-pedia and working collaboratively is much harder in a poisoned atmosphere))

Having fully read the info at the second noticeboard thread now, it seems that your position CHQ has hardened from a politics-n-economics ban to a full site-ban. (Hardly different in impact; as you know Ahnoneemoos works 99% in those topics... but different in tone.) And in particular, you assert this.

Which would rule out what I'm attempting now, if true. I disagree it is true. Admitting there is a problem, and identifying it. Okay, I'll take a stab. The problem is, Ahnoneemoos and Mercy are both frustrated with the collaborative editing environment, and this leads to wikiStress and then to noticeboards. The solution is, to adjust the editing environment, so they can both stay productive (sans frustrations). Now, I'm quite purposely putting the focus on just those two, ignoring other parties; two one-hop-away negotiators plus two frustrated parties is already complex enough, we can broaden the problem-definition and the solution-definition once we achieve four-way consensus. Do you agree this is a reasonable approach to problem-solving?

background assumptions: wikipedians are drawn from many walks of life, grudges are unproductive, the keys to on-wiki collaboration are WP:NPOV and WP:NICE, plus WP:NOT

Editing wikipedia is stressful. Different people have different wikiPolitical philosophies, and think different things are important (talkpages/tags/admins/noticeboards/infoboxen/MOS/etc). Some folks are deletionists. Some folks are inclusionists. Some people like to heed the five pillars for maximum simplicity, and focus on the content. Some people like to create elaborate processes, and focus on the best-practice-guidelines. When you put all these various different methodologies together... plus off-wiki real-life differences like nationality, ethnicity, home-culture, work-ethic, societal-taboo, religion, political party, gender, employment, family-life-stress, buggy computers, and so on... the end result can be a big mess.   There are two main questions. First question, how do we run the project? That one has already been answered, thankfully, we run the project on the five pillars, NPOV and WP:RS keep real-world off-wiki factions from turning into on-wiki factions (ideally anyways), whilst WP:NICE keeps everybody behaving properly (ideally). Second question, given that we have a user like Mercy, and a user like Ahnoneemoos, that repeatedly get into content-disputes, and/or simply rub each other the wrong way... what is a practical fix that can resolve the situation? You have suggested at AN that one fix is to ban Ahnoneemoos, but that didn't happen. The logical converse also hasn't happened, and nobody wants it too. But doing nothing, failing to negotiate now, by the various individuals collectively (albeit not necessarily *all* individuals actually individually participating is WP:REQUIRED), means simply that grudge-o-pedia has formed, and future noticeboard drahmahz inevitable. My position is that it takes two to tango, and that means it takes two people to content-war (Mercy and Ahnoneemoos), and also that it takes two people to negotiate a peace-treaty (CHQ and 74 is my hope).

  Point being, two relatively uninvolved folks, like myself and yourself, can try and work out a modus operandi (at first temporary and tentative but with experience becoming as solid and permanent as anything the wikiverse ever gets), wherein Ahnoneemoos can get what they most want (while still improving wikipedia's content), and Mercy can also get what they most want (ditto). What is it that Mercy most wants? That's what I need to know; having not edited with them before, I don't really know.

  1. Ahnoneemoos most wants to add content to and polish content in mainspace^[1] without it being reverted over non-policy-backed arguments. Ahnoneemoos is *good* at that task, too. Secondarily, Ahnoneemoos wants other things, but methinks that is the main one, and if you and myself can find a way to make it happen with Mercy's blessing, that behavior will improve wikipedia.

  2. My primary goal is for you and Mercy and Ahnoneemoos and Tony and even my new acquaintance Feedback, plus the other folks that are regulars in the Puerto Rico content-areas, to all be WP:NICE and work together productively^[2] to improve the encyclopedia, as opposed to spending time on noticeboards and energy on battleground-behavior (with the main goal of banning opponents in a content-dispute... that would be 'grudge-o-pedia').

  3. CHQ, correct me if I'm wrong, but your main reason for re-activating (welcome back and it is an excellent one I hope to help enable) is this: to achieve consensus amongst editors interested in Puerto Rico, on specifying some new&improved quality-standards for articles in the WP:PUR-category that will simultaneously help settle pointless content-disputes^[3.a] and bickering and wikiStress, plus organize productive efforts to focus on how to best help editors improve the average assessment-class^[3.b] of said articles.

  4. So in your opinion, as a long-time WP:PUR contributor, and with an eye to future peace-amongst-all-parties-with-nobody-getting-banned-nor-holding-grudges-because-behaviors-are-channeled-into-productive-effort.... What is the primary thing^[4] Mercy wants to accomplish here on the 'pedia? Or of course, Mercy11 is free to speak for themselves. p.s. R1: Given PR's ambiguous status, these kind of disputes will keep appearing and not only between Mercy and Ahnoneemoos. Puerto Rican politics go way beyond conservatives vs. liberals, people often believe that when their leaders are attacked, so is the future of their political ideology. Independence-supportes feel that statehood-supporters want to "asimilate PR and destroy every aspect of their identity and culture"; statehood supporters believe that everything that is not done in line with the Federal government can lead to a "communist banana republic"; and commonwealth supportes claim that everyone is trying to destroy a system that "works". It is that silly and polarized. Keeping these articles "neutral" is no simple matter and, honestly, we should have attended this years ago. I propose that a special WP:PUR subpage is created so that these issues could be vented without affecting the mainspace. Also, establishing a 1RR for political disputes could be a good step to avoid future and long running wars.

R2: I don't really have any problem with that and Tony has been historically neutral when disputes appear between WP:PUR members. He can be a good "referee" when they appear.

R3: Yes, and admittedly this is the one point that may place me and Ahnoneemoos in a collision course. I am not a deletionist, but controlling the quality of the new articles is extremely difficult and he adds several stubs to the queque. Ahnoneemoos seems quite familiar with these subjects, and if he is actually in contact with them, then perhaps something can be done to at least improve the articles to a "moderate" size (in my personal standard, 12,000 bytes of prose are decent) and a better place in the quality scale. I have an idea, but prefer to wait for a confirmation before continuing.

R4: I will not speak on behalf of Mercy. Based on our interactions, I can say that he is passionate and that may ocassionally lead to confrontation, but generally enjoys contributing to PR-related articles. In that sense, he may actually be quite similar to Ahnoneemoos (albeit with contrasting ideologies). - Caribbean~H.Q. 10:14, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Agree that PR politics are complex. In a way, though, they *are* a bit easier to deal with than e.g. Chelsea/Bradley Manning article, or similar USA-hot-buttons, simply because there are numerically fewer people deeply involved. PR politics have longer-term ramifications (real-world independence/statehood/commonwealth versus saying Bradley or saying Chelsea), so that can lead to the polarization you speak of, but I think that being able to interact directly and personally is an advantage. With the Manning thing, there were a hundred people involved when it finally went to arbcom, and probably a dozen different factions. Pretty intractable. With PR, there are tons of people that might dabble here and there, but the serious long-term folks get to know each other; so there is hope.

  So given that, I guess my interim proposal, is that we try a couple things. First, you please pick a set of three articles that you think need improving. They should be related to PR, so that people have an already-manifested interest, but otherwise I don't think it matters what articles they are. This is a field-sample, for step two. Actually, I take that back... please try to specifically pick articles that have not yet been worked on significantly (nor created) by Mercy11 nor by Ahnoneemoos, if possible, so that the wikiTerritory of the 3 articles in question is not something folks have already personally invested themselves in.

  Then, second, the four of us will try to polish & improve the content of those articles, up to "standard" ... definition of said term which is something that will be collaboratively hammered out as part of the effort, methinks. Ahnoneemoos spends most of their time nowadays in creation, as you point out, but they are also a polisher. Mercy enjoys that too. We just have to come up with some kind of modus operandi, so everybody gets what they most want, and wikipedia is productively improved as a useful byproduct. You and myself will try to immediately nip interpersonal stuff in the bud, but as a fallback, if they are willing to serve the role, we can use TonyTheMarine and Thief12 as "referees" and possibly FiddleFaddle-aka-TimTrent (who I know from elsewhere and who was tangentially involved as a "referee" back in the 2012 thing with the mayors) if they are interested.

  Does this sound potentially fruitful? That will give you and Ahnoneemoos a venue to work out some initial standards-proposals related to your 12KB target and such, with me and Mercy to help. Simultaneously, it will give Mercy and Ahnoneemoos some additional chances to work out a way to collaborate WP:NICEly without sniping from either side; me and yourself will be the helpers, for this aspect. Plus with any luck, we upgrade some articles from unsourced stubs to C-class or B-class or something.

  p.s. You mentioned having an idea... not knowing what it is kinda hinders me, from actually knowing, what sort of confirmation you are waiting for. If it's just a general confirmation that everything you are saying so far makes good sense to me, then you have that confirmation.  :-)   As for the 12KB goal, I don't personally have a problem with stub-class articles getting added to mainspace (as long as WP:N is demonstrable), and I wouldn't want there to be a rule that only-articles-with-at-least-12KB-of-content-will-escape-deletion. That said, it makes sense to me that one of the goals of WP:PUR should be to *prioritize* work, and concentrate on improving the key articles related to Puerto Rico. With categories, probably. Category:Stub-Class_Puerto_Rico_articles_of_Top-importance

  For instance, here is a stub-class article added September 2013,[2] which used to be a redirect to List of Puerto Rican architects. Not the same thing! A set of architects who are *from* Puerto Rico, is quite distinct from an article about the history of the varying artistic styles, used for structures *in* Puerto Rico. From bohios to modern hurricane-resistant stuff, there is a lot of civil and environmental engineering; there is also the political angle, with land-use policy (codes and zoning and property taxation) plus public housing projects. A bit of WP:GOOG says there are tons of sources to pick from. So maybe, this article, could be one of the three? Or maybe, your as-yet-hidden idea is even better, and we should do that instead? (←)... I'm iffy about trying this out in the mainspace, developing a new article in a sandbox is a lot easier if we are going to experiment like this. To begin, we can easily abort if things go awfully wrong. And any back and forth would not really count as an edit war. There are several topics that need an article, and producing a decent article from an experiment would be a nice perk. Furthermore, several of them fall into the "politics" category that both of them seem to enjoy.

In his old user page, Ahnoneemoos mentioned a certain job that may place him in contact with several of these figures. I need a confirmation of exactly how "close" he can get. If he can actually speak with them, then we may be able to maneuver that into an advantage. Let's say that he can record a podcast asking them basic questions (education, accomplishments, etc.) that gathers whatever they want to share and another one of us could pass that forward to a legitimate journalist that can publish it after reviewing its content.

It seems overly complex, but the fact of the matter is that by using that method we could systematically fill-in his articles. Even if the subject's voice is recorded directly answering a query, we can't directly publish a link to a podcast without risking "original research" cries. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There was no formal alliance by the name you utilized in the infobox (unlike the Allied powers of WWII or NATO) and the flag you created is entirely fictional. Indeed the United States had a formal policy of non-alignment during this period, and up to the Boxer Rebellion. Wikipedia has a no synthesis policy. I have read Sloat's letters, I've read Porter's letters, I've most everything I could get my hands on relating to the US Navy anti-piracy campaign of the 1820's. Your position that either your "Anti-piracy alliance" moniker or Denmark should remain in the infobox is absurd. United States naval personnel engaged the Anne at sea, and Spanish forces engaged the pirates on land.
