Tanzania Region Images

Hi. I think that the best format for region articles should be for example: "Arusha Region” instead of "Arusha Region, Tanzania" as it seems that this is the most popular type used. Redirects should be created for each region using the following formats - "Arusha Region, Tanzania", "Arusha (Region)", and "Arusha (Region), Tanzania".

I would be glad to assist in improving these articles. Thanks.

Federal Ministries in Germany

Hi, in response to your message on my talk page: - I agree every ministry needs an article; the same goes for each minister. I think you've summarised what both sets of articles need. However, I don't think the table in Cabinet of Germany needs a direct link to the ministries (if I understand what you're suggesting) as it's a table of cabinet ministers.

I've only got a passing interest/knowledge in this area. The stub I added for Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (Germany) was to fill-in a red-link in an article I was cleaning up on the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien. I noticed that some of the ministries had been miscategorised in Category:German Cabinet so I moved them to Category:German Ministries and did a little other tidying up.

Marking alleged criminals and alleged terrorists with the {crime-bio-stub}?

Actually, he was arrested as a material witness. He wasn't classified as an unlawful combatant until June 2003, when he had been incarcerated for eighteen months. Those charges were dropped when he was classified as an unlawful combatant.

There is no way I can agree that classifaction as an unlawful combatant implies the detainee "was somehow involved in criminal acts." Further, "somehow involved" is not enough involvement to label someone a criminal, or even an alleged criminal. Friendly Nick Berg let a stranger, who turned out to be an al Qaeda operative, use his computer to send some email. If Mousai used Berg's computer to send email that discussed committing terrorist acts that would mean Berg "was involved" in a criminal act. But Berg's involvement would have been completely innocent.

He really may or may not have been, hence the word allegedly.

Some law enforcement officials abuse their authority to punish people merely through hints and allegations.

Don't tag it -- like some authority from above -- unless you have some constructive statements to make. Comments and discussion are important in creating the encyclopedia. Hello, can you explain to me why you have identified the Johnny Barnes article as a {{Caribbean-bio-stub}}? Given that Bermuda is not in the Carribean anymore than the Azores, why should that article be identified as such? Speedy deletion of Fascio Siciliano

Why did you speedy delete this article? I think it really had some merit. I was just wikifying it a bit and then I found out you had deleted it. Aren't admins supposed to explain a speedy deletion in the edit summary, i.e. write more than the first sentence of the original content? (that's not a rhetoric question, I really don't know)--Carabinieri 19:11, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Well, actually by the time I got to the article, the author had blanked it. I was on new page patrol, and unfortunately didn't check the history (although I should have). Admins don't need to explain the reason for the deletion if it is obvious from the contents of the article (which would automatically be in the delete summary). However, the article's content was a blatant copyright violation anyway (from the Encyclopedia Britanica), which would have merited it's deletion nonetheless. I think this article is strongly out of balance and needs a good deal of work to reach the proper state. I suggest to leave the stub template there. thank you for supporting Religious Pluralism on WP:AID - with your support, we've really made it into next week. I gather from your contributions that you're one of the cleanup guys that organize all the information that is already there in Wikipedia an put it into the right place. Any contribution of yours to Religious Pluralism would be most welcome, even if you're not an expert in the matter; there is a lot of work to be done for non-experts as well, such as:

• Cleaning up the page (We've got a proposal for a new outline, and it has to be implemented)
• Building up a Wikiproject on RelPlur so we can organize our work better (and I'm quite a newbie and haven't got a clue how to do that).
• Looking for related pages, establishing the links and checking for consistency.

I've added {{sockpuppet}} templates to the user pages of all the foreignchar vandal accounts I know of, to make it easier to keep track of them. They currently link to User:Diacrit and Category:Wikipedia:Suspected sockpuppets of Diacrit, but that can be changed if and when someone finds out who the real user behind all these sockpuppets is. Comma before LoPbN dates?

Hi, and thanks for your contribs on List of people by name-tree pages!

You may be interested something that's been diffidently discussed for over a year, but hasn't gotten any attention since i asked for opinions on resolving it about 6 months ago. I've put a lot of commas between the link to the subject's bio and their parenthesized dates of birth &/or death, since that has been the predominant approach for a long time, but my cautiousness about a change has been the strongest opinion for it that i've heard for a while before, and since then.

Earlier this week, i announced my intention to eliminate the comma before (but not the one after) the dates, come the new year; that too has brought no response.

Your interest in the pages suggests you're among those whose continued silence should justify my confidence in that move, so i hope you'll speak up at Talk:List of people by name#Commas if you've got enough of an opinion to bother commenting on it.

Delaware stubs

I understand your point about stub categories, but it is also wikipolicy to only have stub categories where there are a substantial number of stubs, 50 or so, I think. Surely one stub covering all articles concerning Delaware is enough. I could see double stubing if it crossed two areas, or dividing California up, but subdividing little old Delaware seems too much to me. I'll solve the problem shortly by writing a basic article for the guy. Frankly, most of the Delaware stubs are politicians, and have been set by me as I develop my work list. Being in one place makes my life easier, as I am actually working to eliminate all of them. stilltim 02:42, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Stub Templates

With regard to Guðbrandur Þorláksson, why did you change it back to 4 stub templates? As generally agreed at Wikipedia:Stub, "using more than two is strongly discouraged", and undoing changes without an edit summary like that is rather rude. -- Jake 21:33, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Meir Vilner

Sorry I was slow to get your message; haven't checked Wikipedia for a while. My Hebrew's actually not good for much besides basic reading, but I /did/ find the Meir Vilner article in Hebrew and added the cross-wiki link. There's a pretty good infobox with a photo on him there -- if you don't get to it first I'll add something similar to the English article eventually. If you do, for reference: his birthdate is October 23, 1918; he died on June 6, 2003; and his parties as listed on the he-wiki are Hadash, Rakah, and Maki (the latter two of which should both redirect to the Communist Party of Israel page). Oh, you don't, do you? In that case, I cannot imagine why you find it so hard to understand that it is an insult to post a Nazi German flag on an article about someone who was murdered by Hitler's régime. Think about it. You obviously found my header insulting, and I chose it to impress on you the offensive potential of a Nazi reference, but I don't think you quite made the inference that I'd aimed for.

In case you still don't understand, let me put it another way: It's not the stub itself. It's the flag that appears in the stub tag. If you can find another, more fitting stub tag, or if you can change the Nazi tag's template, that's fine, but a Nazi flag on an article about a Nazi murder victim is a hell of a lot more offensive than a message headed "Heil Hitler". Geography has very little to do with these people and who they were. Yes, they lived in Germany when Hitler led it, but the Nazis were a régime, one based on a central figure whom all "good" Nazis worshipped. The tag is appropriate for any personality who was stricken with Hitler worship, but we need another one. I don't know whether is a Widerstand stub tag. European Robin

I noticed your language skills. I am interested to know what is says on the French or German wiki about the European Robin. It it well known to French or European gardeners? The English Wiki says that it is known to English and Irish gardeners, because it comes close when someone is digging the garden to collect food, but there is no mention of European gardeners. County or district

Hi, I saw that you changed the word County to the generic word district in the Renchen article I translated. Perhaps you don't realize that the word county is a 100% match for the word "Kreis" in American English and a lot better than the generic. Well, I see your point regarding consistency and I'm usually all for it. But I don't think that a generic word should be picked over a perfect match (at least in part of the hemisphere) just because the person who set up the "district" pages was not familiar with American English. There are too many other types of regional concoctions in Germany that we really don't have good matches for that need the word district. To use it for counties as well is heavily and unnecessarily overusing it (IMHO).

Regarding your other question, I don't think we want to list stubs as new articles. But it would be great if you could really translate the German articles. That would simply be wonderful. Stubs usually don't give much information and creating them just so we can say the page exists in the en-wiki doesn't help much. It would be better to leave the links red. Don't forget that stubs also take away the chance for our articles to be picked for DYKs on the main page when they are finally completed because they no longer qualify as "new" articles. But we'd love to have your contributions of full translations advertised on the Portal and perhaps picked for DYKs both on the Portal and the Main Page. German article transalations

Also wanted to let you know that there is a template {{de}} that we include in all articles that are based on a German article whether in part all completely doesn't matter. And please all all your translatios to the bottom of the Proofreading section on the Wikipedia:German-English translation requests. Berberis vulgaris

Hi Carabinieri - having this at its scientific name actually fits in better with the WP:TOL naming proceedures "or when common names are well-known and reasonably unique, they should be used for article titles. Scientific names should be used otherwise": the "common" name is not very well-known, and the species (like all Berberis species) is almost always referred to by its scientific name by gardeners and scientists alike. Compare the google hit counts, 400,000 for "Berberis vulgaris", and only 11,000 for "European Barberry" (and marginally more, 17,000, for "Common Barberry"). There's also a strong move among many WP:TOL participants to have almost all plants at their scientific names, because plant names are so often confusing and used differently in different areas - MPF 19:16, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

But don't forget that the French article needs an interwiki link back to the English language article before being removed, otherwise it will just reappear in the French list the next time a database dump is done.
