Speedy deletion nomination of Wakanow

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wakanow, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Conflict of Interest policy and disclosure

edit

Hi Captainzarmani I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia. Your edits to date seem to be heavily centered on a company called Wakanow in the online travel business and another Nigerian online business, Kaymu. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some questions for you below.

Hello, Captainzarmani. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Wakanow, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Question

edit

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review.

DIsclosure is the most important, and first, step. Would you please let me know if you have any relationship with Wakanow or Kaymu, its management, or contracting agencies hired to write about them?

You can reply here - I am watching this page. Once you do, we can take it from there. Thanks in advance for talking! — Brianhe (talk) 13:16, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Brianhe, thanks for reaching out, I really appreciate. Just as you advised, I did make sure to familiarize myself with Wikipedia guidelines before even attempting to edit a word on Wiki. I don't write perfect articles, but I try to get better.
I do not have a relationship with Kaymu, its management, or contracting agencies hired to write about them, or anything related to such description. I do however have a relationship with Wakanow as an employee. Also, I do not have any relationship with any agency hired to write for organizations or to do anything related. Considering the hardwork I put in gathering neutral, reliable and locally relevant sources online for the Wakanow article, I was hoping that if the Wakanow article I created needed correction, I would be offered a helping hand the same way that DGG, Wikicologyand you, have been helpful.
I don't want the Wakanow article thrashed away (as it has), but I would like to receive help with it so that Wiki can remain a place with only content that is worthy, and so that I, too, can get better in my volunteer work as an editor. (I'm watching this page too :) ) Thanks. Captainzarmani (talk) 17:19, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Would you start please by putting a comment about your relationship with Wakanow and any other employers on your userpage (User:Captainzarmani)? We can go from there. — Brianhe (talk) 17:50, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, do please put the disclosure on your userpage so your disclosure is transparent to other editors. — Brianhe (talk) 15:44, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello Brianhe Thanks, again. Kindly check my user page now. Captainzarmani (talk) 09:44, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I see. It's also good practice to add {{Connected contributor}} to articles you work on where you have a COI. In your case, I'd suggest this would include anything in the online commerce space. I'd also suggest, for what I hope are obvious reasons, not moving the Wakanow article in your sandbox to a new article yourself. Regarding the Wakanow sandbox, I'm going to bring this up at WP:COIN for a second opinion, which obliges me per procedure to put a note on your user page, which will appear in a few minutes below this comment. — Brianhe (talk) 03:49, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the support. No, I won't be moving the article away from my sandbox until green light is given. I understand you have to bring this up under WP:COIN. I have added the Connected contributor tag and further declared there as well. Please let me know once there's something else I'm required to do, for example, if I am need to do or say anything at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Wakanow. Thanks.Captainzarmani (talk) 09:13, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
I added a banner at the top that you can use to submit your draft for review, which is the preferred process for COI editing. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 17:19, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks! §FreeRangeFrogcroak Captainzarmani (talk) 11:26, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
