Mohammad Shahabuddin

I saw your edit on the article for Mohammad Shahabuddin; and have since then tried to update it (only the lead till now) with reference to reliable sources. I am fairly new editor here so I just have one query since there is WP:BLP involved here. Wouldn't it be appropiate to state that he is a "convicted gangster" since multiple independent reliable source seem to describe him as such? I've for now only left it as him being "described as a convicted gangster". Tayi Arajakate Talk 08:00, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Sabrina Vourvoulias submission declined

Dear CaptainEek, I have added several references to this article. You asked for three best sources. Would you please check these three.

1. https://www.theguardian.com/profile/sabrina-vourvoulias 2. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/23/immigration-dystopia-border-detention 3. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/03/651957794/ink-draws-a-dark-but-plausible-future

And please tell me whether Amazon.com is a notable source for an author? Thank you Ghoraghatalpha (talk) 06:58, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Ghoraghatalpha, Amazon should never be used as a source for anything. Thanks for linking those three sources, but I'm afraid that two of the three are not usable. The first is just establishing that she writes for the Gaurdian. Contributors are not inherently notable, we need articles about those contributors. The second is written by her, which is not independent. The third isn't about her, its a review of her book. If anything, that establishes that her book, not her, should have an article. So you'll need to find some better sources than that, which talk about her and not just her work. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:09, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

there was more than one Discussion

There was more than one Discussion of the previous list The admin I wrote to was vague about the keep consensus, thus the new versionT3g5JZ50GLq (talk) 07:32, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

the new list is self-disclosing notables with english wiki pages, a small list.T3g5JZ50GLq (talk) 07:35, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
T3g5JZ50GLq, But that is what the last discussion was about. The article was List of people with coronavirus disease 2019, and it was a list of notable people (i.e. had Wikipedia pages) and Coronavirus, and consensus was that it shouldn't exist. Whats the difference between that and the one you wrote? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:43, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
the page I read said Keep, that is why I added it, because the person who decided the consensus, when asked, was non-committal about the article I made. There is no way to compare my article to List of people with coronavirus disease 2019 since it is not accessible. T3g5JZ50GLq (talk) 22:56, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
@T3g5JZ50GLq: Having seen the version before it's deletion (note also that administrators can see deleted content), the difference is not great. Both are lists of notable people who have coronavirus. Could you perhaps link to the discussion with a keep outcome, that would probably help clarify things. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:01, 4 April 2020 (UTC)

Help

Hi CaptainEek, I am Thewiselexicon. There was a dispute between another user and I over the Cardinal Mooney page. I am a student there currently who has been tasked with ensuring that it has been properly maintained. I’m a bit new to mediation here but is there any avenue where I can request a review of the information that the other used removed on march 6 2020. Thewiselexicon (talk) 07:09, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Thewiselexicon, If you are the user that made the request at the third opinion board, then I didn't realize it because if so you were logged out at the time. Always make sure you are logged in to edit, as being logged out to edit reveals your IP address and also can be seen as an attempt to game the system. I think you refer to this edit. The main issue here is that the information was not cited with a reliable source. I support the removal, and think that most folks would. You are welcome to re-add the material if you find a reliable source that supports it. Even though you might know the information to be true, we need a source that says it regardless, otherwise we'd have no way to verify anything on Wikipedia. In this case, I imagine that the sources will be news articles, and maybe the USNews report on the high school. Refrain from using the high school's own website and material where possible, as such sources are not independent. Also, because you are a student of the school and have been asked to make the edits, you have a conflict of interest. You need to declare that by following the steps at WP:DCOI.
I know that's all a lot, but we are glad you are editing Wikipedia. Sorry that your intro to Wikipedia is a trial by fire, but hope you enjoy the place. If you have any questions or need any help, please leave a note here and I'll do my best. Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:31, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Thx. I'll make sure to follow those rules.07:39, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi CaptainEek, So I just submit my conflict of interest on the corresponding talk page for the affected article correct? 07:41, 14 April 2020 (UTC) Nevermind. I just did it and it popped up. Thanks for your assistance.07:44, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Thewiselexicon You should also put a template/notice on your userpage. Also, a few procedural notes: sign your posts with four tildes, not 3 or 5, as that makes wierd signatures. And make sure to indent replies with an increasing number of colons. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:45, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

It's me, Thylacine24

I'm from this section and this section of the help desk, the latter of which you helped me with. Sorry that I didn't address my response directly to you. I just wanted to make sure that you received my response, so I wouldn't be ungrateful to you, and a liar by omission. (Note: Added comma after "you" in edit.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 21:57, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Thylacine24, No need to post on my page, you can use one of the Template:ping ping templates to get folk's attention. And glad to be of assistance. As a note: no need to edit a comment several times unless there is a really glaring error. Folks don't notice or care about small errors. Another way to get around needing to make multiple edits: just make sure you read through your post before posting. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:54, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek: Thanks for replying, and telling me about the Template:Ping. I know about the "[[User:{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]]" replying feature, though, if that's what you were talking about, and sorry for the condescending nature of this sentence. Also, sorry about all this in general; I have OCD, so I feel inordinately guilty and pedantic over my own and others' errors a lot, and a Type A personality, so I often forget to fully proofread (if at all). Just for the record, though, could you please tell me if by your reference to me "edit[ing] a comment several times", you were referring to my response to you on the help desk? I ask this for OCD-related reasons; sorry to ask you to answer because of my own psychological insecurities. (Edit: Sorry about the "[[User:{{{1}}}|{{{1}}}]]" thing, I was typing a lowercase "u" with two braces on either side, and I should have previewed it first.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 00:27, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Thylacine24, I refer to you editing my talk page a couple of times. Its not biggie, just letting ya know. If it takes a few edits, its alright, but I do get a notification each time you do. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:30, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek: Sorry to be rude, but I wasn't talking about editing on your talk page, I was asking if you saw my responses to you on the help desk. Or are you trying to tell me that you want me to communicate there instead of here? Also, I screwed up for the third time today in being signed in when posting, and had to cut my reply, reload after logging in elsewhere on Wikipedia, and then paste my reply, so it took longer to reply to you that time than earlier, as well as now, for me having to tell you that; sorry yet again. (Edit: I started off writing the part about my having forgotten to log in for the third time because I had forgotten about how I had cut, reloaded, and pasted, then remembered, then did it anyway to annoy you. I'm really sorry about that as well.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 00:35, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Okay, full story: when I got around to telling you how I'd forgotten to log in for the third time, I remembered about the cutting, reloading, and pasting, then did it anyway, because I felt bitter and frustrated and wanted to be mean to somebody, and there's a part of me that wants to say that it was my OCD partly motivating me, but that's just my subconscious, and I'm only writing this now out of OCD and to alleviate my guilt by making you think that I was acting on a compulsion when I was really just trolling. I'm sorry yet again to keep annoying you.--Thylacine24 (talk) 01:36, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek: The post directly above this, while OCD-motivated, was also subconsciously motivated in order to alleviate my guilt. Sorry about that as well. Sorry about this whole debacle, really. (And I also forgot to use the right format in the "reply to" template and to sign this, so I had to fix those things, sorry again!)--Thylacine24 (talk) 16:28, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Adoption

I’ve been on Wikipedia since 2017 as an IP editor but to tell you the truth, I haven’t learnt much. I’ve never written an article before and have mostly made minor contributions. Initially, I was planning on adopting a user whom I frequently helped but he turned out to be a paid editor and was blocked. I tried coding a bot, it didn’t go as planned either. Everything has been going downhill since then, the number of my contributions have dwindled and.. Well, here I am. Could you adopt me and teach me everything from scratch? Thanks, Rodrigo Valequez(🗣) 14:54, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Rodrigo Valequez, Howdy hello! If you're willing to learn, then I'm willing to help.
  1. For starters, what topics are you interested in?
  2. Why did you start editing Wikipedia?
  3. What would you like to get out of adoption? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:20, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
  1. I mostly revert vandalism but I’d love to contribute to articles related to history.
  2. Back in 2017, I realised that there were a few typos in the article which I was reading. I corrected them and began contributing to other articles as an IP. It’s a great feeling to actually be useful.
  3. I’d like to learn how to fight vandalism and how to write/improve articles.

By the way, thanks for the quick reply! Rodrigo Valequez(🗣) 21:32, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Question Comment

@CaptainEek: Pardon me, but how did I get a B-Class rating on my most recent draft that got accepted. Is it because it covers a wide amount of topics?

@LucasA04: I may have over-rated it to be honest, it might only be C class, but it seemed reasonably complete compared to the likely length of the subject. If you feel that the article should be much longer, or is missing components, I can drop the rating. I cannot however raise the rating, as to get a higher rating you need to go through a formal review process. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:20, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek, It's fine. I will, however, look for more information. Cheers! LucasA04 (talk) 22:24, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

My computer is a Macintosh LC II with a Motorola 68EC030 CPU and a 40-120 MB hard disk which I was able to scrap from a PowerBook 145B, so it isn’t the greatest computer. Cyntoia Brown page is unfairly biased

I have a problem with how heavy the article leans in favor of discussing the prosecution theory, but is completely resistant to include anything that court records show about the defense’s position. How convenient that information about the prosecution’s arguments are pulled from court documents, but edits adding the defense position is edited out. It’s clear that this article is meant to paint the individual in a harsh light and is not at all written from a neutral standpoint. I expect more from Wikipedia. Candi Jones (talk) 07:31, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Candi Jones, Well the article is certainly quite in need of a POV cleanup. To be honest, all of the court records and the info they support should be removed. For such a controversial topic, only reliable secondary sources should be used. Court records are primary sources and can be easily manipulated or misunderstood. If you can find media coverage that discusses the defense's story, then you can use it. In general the article needs to state less things in Wikipedia's voice. The article should say things like "The prosecution contended" "The defense said" instead of just stating it as the gospel truth. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:37, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Here’s one:

https://heavy.com/news/2017/11/johnny-allen-cyntoia-brown-murder-nashville/ Candi Jones (talk) 07:42, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Candi Jones, A more reliable source than heavy is preferred, you may wish to look at WP:RSP, a list of sources and how reliable they are considered. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:47, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

I mean...reliable? Look at the other sources in the page. This article is just a propaganda piece at this point. It’s been allowed to become troll central at this point. Candi Jones (talk) 07:50, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

The lead detectives letter to the Governor Urging him not to release her is even used as a source. Candi Jones (talk) 07:52, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Candi Jones, It needs a definite cleanup. A lot of sources are bad or need to go, or be replaced by better ones. If you'd like to take that on, you should give our policy on neutrality a good read, as well as our policy on reliable sources. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:56, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Is there not someone on Wiki who does that sort of cleanup? I am not versed in Wiki, I just have researched this case as part of a larger project on domestic minor sex trafficking and the criminal justice system. Is there not someone more qualified? (I already got accused of having a close personal tie to this article) Candi Jones (talk) 07:59, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Candi Jones, We have people who do that sort of cleanup. But we also have 6 million articles, of which 5 million need a great deal of work, and only a few thousand highly active editors each month. So we need all the help we can get. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 08:06, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Understood... I just did some edits. I made notes about the reason for the edits being in line with what you and I discussed. A huge chunk of it relied on the court case. I removed it and left it to the facts...not inferences, not opinions. She was convicted of shooting and killing him. She was sentenced to life in prison. Very to the point. (Although not those exact words, and with a bit more detail) Candi Jones (talk) 08:13, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

There are two other cases included in my research, if I see anything related to them that needs addressing, I will help out there too. Candi Jones (talk) 08:15, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Gingerbreadhouse97 completely reversed everything I did to clean up the article and is insistent on using the court documents to support the edits despite them being unacceptable as you told me. It seems like Gingerbreadhouse97 is somehow deeply rooted in a campaign to make this Wiki a retrial of Brown instead of an information source. (See his comments on the Cyntoia Brown: Talk page.) Could you please step in to help. Candi Jones (talk) 21:40, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

article about Howard Kunreuther

Thank you for your guidance on the article I am trying to create about Prof. Howard Kunreuther. I am following examples for Paul Slovic and Baruch Fischhoff, both of whom are Kunreuther's colleagues and contemporaries.

128.91.218.136 (talk) 17:59, 25 April 2020 (UTC)Carol Heller, April 25, 2020

Well there's the issue. Paul Slovic's article is pretty bad, and not the typical style of our articles. Baruch Fischhoff's article is pretty bare bones. I tried to find a good article on a scientist of similar standing, but couldn't in a quick search. But I can suggest taking a look at the Noam Chomsky article, which shows a good way to cover a modern, living, professor. Now of course Chomsky is a bit more famous than your guy. But the point is that the structure of discussing their life, career, accomplishments in separate sections is solid. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:07, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Seeking Adoption. Many Questions.

Hi CaptainEek,

I hope you'll forgive me if this sounds a little strange, but for the past couple weeks I've been absorbing a lot of information and trying to piece together what, exactly, is going on in world. I've looked through a plethora of sources; everything from ancient esoteric philosophy, to political articles, to mathematical analysis, to programming languages. I believe I am onto something, but I haven't managed to take the final step, that is, I don't know how to decide.

I assure you, I'm not going insane. At least, I don't think I'm going insane. However, I believe strongly that the world as we see it is not the way it truly is. I do not wish to lose my autonomy, and yet I do not wish to be enslaved. To whom, then, should I pledge allegiance? I have loved this world, but truly, I love being alive. If there is some way that I can continue living, and still maintain the fundamental autonomy of "I" - to avoid being enslaved by either the left or the right - then please, help me.

Forgive me if this doesn't make sense, however, I hope it does, and that you can offer me anything that might help me make this ultimate choice.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to your prompt response.

Thanks very much for pointing that out to me. I've completed all the sections, and updated my userpage. AdjustingFramework Alright, well I have a couple of general questions then to see if I'm a good fit as an adopter. If not I can try to recommend another.
  1. What would you hope to get out of adoption?
  2. What topics are you interested in? What areas would you like to edit?
  3. Why did you join Wikipedia?

CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:04, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

{{|captaineek}}

  1. If, as I suspect, we are approaching what one might commonly refer to as "the end of the world", then I admit to having more than a passing interest in self-preservation. It seems to me that this would need to be accomplished via some means of consciousness uploading, storage, etc., or, perhaps, by using some unknown method of moving both my mind and my physical body off of the Earth. However, I am wary of the first, since I fear the loss of autonomy - am I playing into the trap of some malevolent entity, literally "selling my soul" because I am arrogant enough to believe that I have that kind of control? Am I being deceived, and would I be better off accepting the Bible as written, and accepting Jesus as my personal savior? I wasn't raised in the church, but this idea haunts me nonetheless. It's illogical, but what else is "faith" if not the rejection of logic? Regardless, if the world is about to be destroyed, then Wikipedia seems to be our Ark. Whatever happens to me, I think it's worthwhile to help preserve a bit of what this world is, and I think I should help.
  2. I'm becoming increasingly interested in the metanarrative that seems to hold across time periods and disciplines. For example, I think there is an argument to be made that AI research, the Kybalion, coding languages, and the movie Beetlejuice (and possibly everything ever created by mankind) can all be interpreted in such a way as to reach the same conclusions. The fact that we don't see things as such a way is simply because we do not have a proper understanding of the information. I know wikipedia is not the place to cite opinions, post my own research, etc., but I think as I explore more and come across interesting connections, it'd be nice to add relevant citations to further strengthen this informational web I believe I'm uncovering. I know wikipedia has been a great source for me as I've been searching for answers, but I've found several conceptual topics that aren't covered yet.
  3. I suppose I covered that already in my first 2 responses. It was mostly by chance, but now that I'm here, I feel that I ought to participate.

AdjustingFramework (talk) 02:32, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

AdjustingFramework, Okay, couple of points here.
  • The world is definitely not ending. Yeah, things aren't going so well, but I can guarantee you that the world has had it way worse and made it through just fine. We've made it through countless pandemics and wars and genocides and the world has kept on chugging.
  • Dunno what you're waffling on about, but this is Wikipedia. It is an encyclopedia. Our goal is to present the sum total of human knowledge in the best way possible. We are not a way to upload your consciousness or preserve your memory etc etc. See a list of other things we are not.
  • Wikipedia is interconnected yes with links to other things, but its not a big web or some meta-narrative. If thats why you want to edit Wikipedia, maybe you shouldn't. If you see a big conspiracy in Wikipedia, that is also not a good reason to edit.
  • If you're going to contribute, you should do it because you are interested in the topics and want to help build an encyclopedia. Ulterior motives are not a good reason to edit Wikipedia.
  • I hope you can take a look at what you've written and understand that from the perspective of others it comes across as vague ramblings. That sort of content is not generally appreciated on Wikipedia.
  • I know its a very stressful time for everyone. If you're stressed out or psyched out, it may not be good a time to start editing. Make sure to stay connected with the people around you in these tough times, and please take care of yourself :) The world isn't ending, and we're gonna make it through this, and be stronger for it.
  • Bottom line: if you'd like to actually contribute to Wikipedia for honest reasons and are in a good place personally, I can try to help you or point you to someone who can. Otherwise, editing Wikipedia might not be the best move for you at the moment.
Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 03:01, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Thank you! Maybe that's what I needed to hear. I still think Wikipedia still seems like something worth contributing to; like I said, there were several concepts that I've been looking into lately that don't have their own pages. Is adoption always reccommended, or can I learn on my own? I can understand why you'd be concerned, but I proomise I'm not going insane.

Just curious, though. Do you happen to know why wikipedia uses the specific imagery of the Blue Star Kachina? As you progress through the modules, there's all sorts of phrasing that seems clearly designed to evoke the ideas of something coming from space to the earth (I understand that it explicitly means going "to the article", but the imagery is not subtle). Your rewards that you get after each test progress from blue to red, further referncing the Hopi story of the end of the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdjustingFramework (talkcontribs) 04:03, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

AdjustingFramework, Adoption is not mandatory, though it can be helpful. I wasn't adopted and learned on my own, though I did take a significant amount of time to read our policies and guidelines.
I don't think that we do use the imagery of the blue star kachina. The Wikipedia adventure has had those colors for years, because some volunteer thought that blue and red was a nice color scheme. Blue and orange are contrasting colors, and red is close to orange. Trying to find that kind of meaning in places where it is not can lead to improper conclusions. Wikipedia has no prophets on it or doomsayers, just people who want to build a tool of information. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:13, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

WP:ANI

Hey, CaptainEek,

It's fine for you to close discussions on ANI if they have resolved themselves but please remember to include a {{NAC}} with your closing rationale and signature. It's important, especially for new editors, to know whether a discussion has been closed by an admin or not. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 00:24, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Liz, Oops, my bad, I almost always do but I forgot on that one. Thanks for the reminder! I'll amend my latest close to note that. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:29, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

May 01st

A lot of greets from this side, But may I know why has you redirected the article "Heena Shahab (Siwan)" to his husband 's_I know, currently she's not in office but is wife of a convicted criminal and politician and holds a prominent face from Bihar State region. Thanks Sturdyankit (chat) 05:08, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Sturdyankit, The article was a mess, and it didn't establish the subject's notability. Notability is not inherited, if your wife or brother or kid is notable, that does not make you notable. Furthermore, the article was extremely poorly written, perhaps the result of using auto-translation. It also had WP:BLP issues. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 05:22, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

trying out a new signature now. i think it is an improvement. I have a question though. how did you get the anchor image to be part of your signature, i.e. as an actual typeable character, rather than a link to a visual file for that image? I am trying to adopt a similar symbol. thanks!! --Sm8900   03:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

okay, I found a way to copy and paste symbols as actual text. can you please tell me if there is a way that I can convert a visual symbol from a file into a copyable text character? thanks!! --Sm8900 🌎   04:02, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Sm8900, You probably shouldn't use images in your signature, its bad for page load time, and I think its against policy anyway. You can use emojis however! You are using the earth emoji already I see. I used an anchor emoji. As long as Wikipedia will render it, you have a pretty wide choice. I used an emoji finder website to copy what I wanted. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:22, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
that's very helpful. I've been trying to find a website with a compleete set. I did find one with the earth symbol. can you please give me a website or link that you find helpful? thanks!! --Sm8900 🌎   04:36, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Sm8900, I used emojipedia [2] CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:39, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
thanks!!! ok, I used that as well. getting closer now to a good version. thanks!!! ---Sm8900 ★✪ 🌎 🇺🇸 14:12, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup 2020 May newsletter

The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  •   Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
  •   Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
  •   The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
  •   Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
  •   Lee Vilenski with 869 points,   Hog Farm with 801,   Kingsif with 719,   SounderBruce with 710,   Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and   MX with 515.

The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Adoption

I am currently seeking adoption. I'm seeking more experience, rather than first time experience. Now, if needed, ask me some questions to help you understand my request. Henry20090 (talk) 22:45, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Henry20090, Howdy hello! A few questions. I may or may not be a good fit as an adopter, if not I'll try to match you with someone who is.
  1. What would you like to get of adoption?
  2. What topics are you interested in on Wikipedia? What do you like editing?
  3. Why did you decide to edit Wikipedia? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:09, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

1.Mostly wikitext experience. 2.I'm one to be interested with articles about Colorado, and travel and roads. However, I haven't made any edits to those types of articles, mostly because of my high involvement in counter-vandalism. 3. Mostly counter-vandalism, and certain contributions to mostly random articles. Henry20090 (talk) 23:46, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

(Yes, I plan to take a CVUA course once I have 200 mainspace edits.) Henry20090 (talk) 23:47, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Henry20090, Have you taken the Wikipedia Adventure? That might be a good idea CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:02, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello - Yes, I am still interested. Someone had left a message awhile ago but never got back after I replied. --Azurerae (talk) 22:11, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Azurerae, They probably didn't get back to you cus they didn't see it, since you didn't use something such as Template:ping to get their attention. I may or may not be a good fit as an adopter, if not I'll try to match you with someone who is. First off, can you answer a few questions?
  1. What would you like to get of adoption?
  2. What topics are you interested in on Wikipedia? What do you like editing?
  3. Why did you decide to edit Wikipedia?
  4. Have you taken The Wikipedia Adventure? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:16, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek,
  1. A mentor who can help me better understand the community, politics and general use of tools and templates.
  2. Romance Authors, Religious Persecution, Notables from the cemetery I am working on, Peasley and Ihda Name Studies, as well as my Jehovah's Witnesses Project on Wikitree. Adding notable profiles, adding the subjects wikitree id here and their wikidata id to wikitree.
  3. Because there wasn't an English article for Simone Arnold Liebster.
  4. Yes, it was one of the first things I did.
Thanks for your help!
--Azurerae (talk) 22:34, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Azurerae, Well I think I might be able to be of assistance then! I'll be honest, I have no familiarity with WikiTree, and very little with WikiData so I can't really help you there. But I can definitely help you with the Wikipedia side of things. If you give me a day or so I can draw up some adoption stuff and we can go about figuring out a mentoring scheme. As a side note, do you use discord? If so you might wish to join our semi-official WP:DISCORD. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:42, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek, That's funny. I just went to the page for discord on here and clicked the link and just got authorized. Sounds great. thanks again! on discord as Azure (Robinson-27225)#6407 --Azurerae (talk) 22:46, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

KylieInTheSkylie, A Few questions:
  1. What would you like to get out of adoption?
  2. What topics are you interested in editing?
  3. Why did you join Wikipedia? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:03, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
A few answers,
  1. I'd love to get help with learning the ways of Wikipedia sea, with learning more closely the policy, further support with making encyclopedic quality articles, and when to use specific templates!
  2. I prefer to edit about plants, weather, current events, and chem!
  3. I joined Wikipedia in 2018 to not have to use my IP in edits, and in recent months, started making more and more edits.

Hey there! I want to get adopted and learn more about wikipedia. Can you help me? Rahbab Chowdhury (talk) 10:25, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

MRC2RULES, I can help ya out, by either adopting you, or finding someone who can. But before I would adopt you, I would want you to take the Wikipedia Adventure, which it looks like you tried to start a few times. Also, as a side note, you probably shouldn't have as much identifying info as you do on your userpage, especially cus you're a kid. And I would also suggest against using your name as your signature, or using a nickname instead of your full name. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 10:37, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes but i got stuck at create userpage option as i have already created one already. Now its just there. i can't go further Ok i changed my username.MRC2RULES (talk) 10:47, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes but the problem is, i get stuck at things i have done already like creating a talk page etc. MRC2RULES (talk) 10:54, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

MRC2RULES, Hmmm I'll admit I don't know tons about the adventure's inner workings. Well since you've been around a bit, lemme ask a few questions:
  1. What would you like to get out of adoption?
  2. What topics are you interested in editing?
  3. Why did you join Wikipedia? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 11:03, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Here are they

  1. .Know more about copy editing, fix my past mistakes, taking on vandalism.
  2. .I am not topic specific but i like to edit errors i find. Personally i like tecnology and science
  3. . With the aim of fixing articles. When i first joined i found many mistakes so i thought, why not fix these as WP can be edited by anyone? My first editing and most was done on Bangladesh International School, Dammam on which i added the school's logo, info and much more. Now i want to focus on editing other articles

That's it. MRC2RULES (talk) 11:26, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Kind of a rough ride, reminds me of my first RFA, wherein a respected member of the community got in the first oppose with a recent, fairly serious error in judgement. It sank me, but I ran again and got in and here I am ten years later still at it. I actually agree with Tony about "that other captain" but I don't see it as an issue so serious that you can't be trusted to be an admin. In any case you seem to be handling it well, if you ask me RFA itself is a decent test of how a user would handle adminship, since you ge criticized a lot when doing admin work. To use a nautical metaphor, weather the storm, stay on course, and I think you'll get that admin ship. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:53, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Vermilion flycatcher

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Vermilion flycatcher has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

There are a couple of things I'll mention. In the Taxonomy section a 2016 study is mentioned. I have added a "by whom" tag for clarification. In the Vocalization section I moved the Cornell Lab citation (#4) to the end of the sentence where the Lab is mentioned. I'm not sure if it is still required at the end of that paragraph, (tq|As a lead-up to copulation, the female may give a tjee-tjee-tjee call.[4][16]}}, so I left it there. In the Distribution section this sentence appears South American populations, however, especially those further south, may make large migrations to the northernmost parts of the Brazilian Amazon. I'm assuming "large" here refers to large numbers of this particular population migrating and not that it is a long distance migration. You might want to alter the wording?

Best of luck with the FAC review.

Vermilion flycatcher - Part 2

I forgot to mention that I reformatted the Breeding section so that the paragraphs each dealt with a specific topic (I felt). This necessitated me moving the juvenile male photo to the following section so that the Breeding section's layout was maintained.

DYK for Vermilion flycatcher

On 19 May 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Vermilion flycatcher, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Pyrocephalus, the genus name of the vermilion flycatcher (example pictured), literally means 'fire head'? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Vermilion flycatcher. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Vermilion flycatcher), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Template Editor rights

Is there a way I can get template editor rights for editing just a small amount of project related (DRN and Spoken Wikipedia)? --Galendalia CVU Member \ Chat Me Up 17:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Galendalia, Can't say that I'm the right person to ask about that, I'm not very familiar with permissions. If you want the perm, you can ask at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Template editor. Alternatively, if you wish to make just a small number of edits, you would be better off just submitting edit requests on the pages in question, or asking a template editor/admin to make the edits on your behalf. Donald Trump mental health RfC

CaptainEek, are you able to edit your closure to provide clarification, or would I have to request that at WP:AN? I feel like the closing statement, "I read the consensus to be that there shall be no paragraph regarding the mental health of Donald Trump" is overly broad because it can be interpreted to mean that there can be no paragraph which includes any text whatsoever making any reference to "mental health". This seems to be how you yourself interpreted that.[3]) I don't see a policy reason for this. So for instance, if I proposed creating a "Personal image" subsection under Public profile with the below text, it could be reverted based on Consensus 39[4].

Personal image

Beginning in the 1980s, Trump had a strong presence in tabloid media where he was portrayed as a playboy and an extravagantly wealthy hero of the working class.[1] Political scientist Michael Nelson writes that Trump has cultivated an image as "the epitome of entrepreneurial success and glamour".[2]

During his political career, "Trump's unique personal style, brashness and disregard for conventional political norms and discourse" has won him both supporters and detractors, according to Gallup.[3] In response to questions raised about his temperament and mental status, Trump has described himself as a "very stable genius".[4][5][6][7]

You write, "Even if we don't take armchair diagnosis as fringe, any paragraph would have to be exactingly written to stay within BLP bounds."..."Even many of the support votes had a caveat that they would only support if the ensuing paragraph was tightly controlled and did not get into fringe issues such as Trump possibly having dementia." That only speaks to the possibility of using armchair diagnoses or including information meant to educate readers about specific diagnoses, not whether to include any mention of his mental health. You write, "While I personally think there could be some carefully worded addition at some point in the future, given the factors discussed: I read the consensus to be that there shall be no paragraph regarding the mental health of Donald Trump. Should substantial new information regarding Trump's mental health arise, feel free to open a new discussion. " This last text taken in context must also refer to diagnoses or medical opinions, but as I said it could be mistakenly interpreted to mean there could not even be a mention of the media story or his own comments about his mental health.

It sounded like you do believe that any mention whatsoever of his mental health was indeed addressed by the RfC close, because you communicated to me that "any paragraph about his mental health would need to be carefully written to give WP:DUE coverage and avoid WP:BLP issues." [5] But that's not a policy or consensus evaluation; of course any added text would have to adhere to policies.

Would you clarify that your close does not find that there shall be no text mentioning Trump's mental health? Thank you. Kolya Butternut (talk) 10:22, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

note re article

Hi CaptainEek. Avast and ahoy there!! congrats on your adminship. I hope it's okay if I still approach you periodically, to get your input on my efforts at editing here at Wikipedia? I can still really use your help and input on various things. thanks!!

could you please take a look at this article, when you have a chance?

  • The article is: 2020s in political history. As you can see, this article is one that I have created, in the hopes of providing it as a way for Wikipedia to continuously provide an overview and a chronicle of contemporary history, as events happen.

so far, the Wikipedia community seems to have accepted this new type of article for the most part. I would like to do everything I can to make sure this article is formatted logically, and can continue to develop and to be updated periodically.

If you have ideas or comments on the format used, or the content, or the basic article structure, feel free to let know. obviously I am hoping that new articles continue to be created on this basis, for each successive decade as time passes. so that is one reason that I would welcome any input on this. Please ping me when you reply. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 14:13, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Sm8900, I'm trying to see how that is distinct from 2020 in politics and government? I'm wondering if the article might be better titled as 2020s in politics and government, to match the year articles? Otherwise, seems to be good. It can always be tricky to keep these large scale articles "tamed", but its easier when there is someone (like you!) to keep watch over them. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:09, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks!! Appreciate your reply. I’ll give all of that some thought. Thanks! —Sm8900 (talk) 02:07, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

ContributeurT, I see that you asked a now deleted question about Draft:Gilles Grapinet. A few points to make:
  1. Is this your original account? If you've had previous accounts, but lost access to them, you need to say so.
  2. If you have a conflict of interest in Grapinet or his companies, or have been paid in any way, including being an employee of Grapinet or his companies, you need to disclose that fact. See WP:PAID for more info.
  3. The reason for the decline of the article was multi-fold. For starters, it reads pretty promotional, and has lots of buzzwords in it.
  4. Mainly, the draft didn't have sources that established Grapinet's notability. The sources mentioned Grapinet either briefly or not at all. Many of the sources were also not reliable. To get the draft approved, you'd need to find multiple quality sources that discuss Grapinet with more than just passing mentions. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:39, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you CaptainEek for your responses. Ok I just add on my user page the fact that I'm an employee of Worldline, the company led by Gilles Grapinet. hope it will help to publish his page. What's more, this draft we are trying to publish is a translation of the already published french page of Mr Grapinet (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilles_Grapinet).

  • You're speaking about buzzwords and others promotional facts, we did not have this blocking factors on french wikipedia. Is it different on the english version of wikipedia?
  • Ok for the notability i'm trying to find other sources.
  • Will it help if I first publish the company page?

Thank you by advance for your help ContributeurT (talk) 15:06, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

ContributeurT, Yes, add on your userpage a disclosure, which you can do by adding the following text, including the brackets: {{paid|employer=Worldline}}.
Each language of Wikipedia has different standards. I don't know what they do on French Wiki, but here we do not allow promotional editing, and require our articles to be neutral.
Publishing a page for the company could help, but that isn't guaranteed. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 15:38, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your responses. In order to establish Mr Grapinet's notability, can I source French article too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContributeurT (talkcontribs) 21:22, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

ContributeurT, Yes, you can use French language reliable sources. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:45, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help, I continue working on it — Preceding unsigned comment added by ContributeurT (talkcontribs) 09:11, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello again Captain, I just re-submit the page of Gilles Grapinet. I added many sources and I published the company page here Worldline. Thank you for your help. (the page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Gilles_Grapinet).

Can you block this user please?

Hi, I see you're active now, I'm dealing with an editor who is violating ARBPIA 30/500 and shouldn't be editing, I warned the editor and placed a pagenotice but they still edit. They even said they will continue to do so until they build a script to do so. They originally edited under an IP and then created this username "Yeyp" as if that wasn't under 30/500, so I would appreciate if both the Yeyp and "65.18.220.200" were blocked so he wouldn't be able to come back. Also, if you can ECP the Murder of Aya Maasarwe page that would be great.I did request them both, but not sure how long that will take. Thanks in advance! Sir Joseph (talk) 03:41, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Sir Joseph, It looks like MaterialScientist beat me to the block, but I have ECP'd the page. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 03:49, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek, yeah, I just saw that, thanks to both. Sir Joseph (talk) 03:51, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Most of that article isnt covered under ARBPIA and it should be unprotected. The template should also be changed to include the relatedcontent=yes flag, as literally the only part of the article that comes anywhere close to being included in ARBPIA is the victim's identification as a Palestinian (though how that becomes an ARBPIA issue is still a little murky to me), but by no means should the article as a whole be extended confirmed protected. Can you drop it back to a time-limited semi? This article is about an exchange student murdered in Australia, not the Arab-Israeli conflict. nableezy - 20:00, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Nableezy, you can change the pagenotice yourself since you have pagenotice rights. I don't know why the ARBPIA talk page notice has the whole page under sanction, I didn't put that there, but considering that the page was getting lots of vandals, there does need some ECP protection on the page. Sir Joseph (talk) 20:11, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
ARBPIA4 requires that once a notice is added it only be removed by an admin. I think "downgrading" it to relatedcontent is close enough Id rather have the admin (or the original creator, that being you) do it. I think semi for the time being would be enough, it would have blocked all the previous disruption (including the until now ignored arbpia vios). I dont think indefinite extended-confirmed is appropriate for an article with maybe 5 words possibly connected to the topic when that connection itself is weak. nableezy - 20:13, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Nableezy, the problem is that the related-content template is not the same template currently used on the page. The two line template now used does not have a related content usage. The only template that has a related content is the ARBCOM 3/500 one that is huge. I put in the page notice yesterday, so I will edit it to related-content, but I don't think we should put the whole ARBCOM 30/500 template, I think we should just modify the existing template and create a related content variable. Sir Joseph (talk) 20:22, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Can ask Doug Weller to change {{Ds/talk notice|a-i|long}} to {{ArbCom Arab-Israeli enforcement}} as he put that template there. nableezy - 20:33, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Note that Template:Ds/talk notice still instructs admins to use the former. El_C 20:37, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
  • If my protection was in the wrong, I will definitely drop it back to semi. But I'll admit I'm a bit confused, perhaps folks can help. My understanding of WP:ARBPIA4 was that the conflict area included related content, and that related content could be given general sanctions, and that the general sanctions included 500/30. The general way to achieve 500/30 is of course ECP. The Murder of Aya Maasarwe does appear tenuously related at first, but given that there was an extensive talk page discussion over her nationality, and edit warring over whether she was Palestinian or Israeli, this appears to fall resoundingly into the "related" content. However I'm not an ARBPIA expert, so I'd welcome some feedback and would love to get a better understanding of ARBPIA :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:55, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
  • CaptainEek, no one is an ARBPIA expert (except perhaps the few editors who focus largely on the ARBPIA topic area), certainly no uninvolved admin that I know of is. The rules remain arcane and contradictory to this day, especially the "primary articles" versus "related content," and when to use protection (ECP and otherwise) vis-à-vis what the templates instructs admins to do. Out of all the discretionary sanctions, it is the most cumbersome topic area — the most difficult to navigate, by far, to editors and admins alike. El_C 21:04, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
  • CaptainEek, it needed ECP, that's not an issue, the issue now is whether to make it indef or just a semi, for like a couple of weeks. Then there is a discussion, on whether the whole article needs ARBPIA, which I agree, it doesn't. The problem is that the current template is the wrong one since there is no "relatedcontentflag" for that one, and the other template that does have a related content, while you can put it in, would be huge. My suggestion would be to make a new template rather than add a huge template but I don't really care either way. As for protection, I don't mind if you lower it, but I think it needs to cool off first, and I think a month would be fine until the vandal loses his attention. Sir Joseph (talk) 21:06, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

I think I have a fairly good understanding despite my lowly status. But an article falls into one of three categories, wholly within the topic area, partially within the topic area (relate content), and wholly outside the topic area. For example, the sections of Bill Clinton that discuss Oslo and Wye River dont make the article wholly within the topic area, so the rules on 50/300 and 1RR do not apply to that entire article. The instead only apply to that portion of the article that relates to the topic area. And as you cant really protect just a section and you cant rely on ARBPIA4 to protect the non-related parts that mostly rules out extended-confirmed protection of the entire article. As far as I can tell, this is governed by Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Palestine-Israel_articles_4#General_sanctions_upon_related_content. The usual methods for disruption there (semi-protection or full-protection, blocks) would be the normal course of action there. Then an article like Ariel Sharon is so inextricably linked to the topic area that any edit to it is covered, even things that are themselves unrelated (his childhood for example). That article can be extended-confirmed as it is a primary topic area article. The Murder of Aya Maasarwe article is in the Bill Clinton (less really, it's literally a couple of words), which to me means if there is a single ip edit-warring they can be blocked, multiple ips can be semi-protected against, a user can be blocked and so on. But as it stands, theres a level of protection higher than both required and in my understanding allowed for material wholly outside of the topic area. nableezy - 23:04, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

@Nableezy: do you still think I should do something? Doug Weller talk 17:50, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
@Doug Weller: Yeah, I think the notice at Talk:Murder of Aya Maasarwe should be changed from {{Ds/talk notice|a-i|long}} to {{ArbCom Arab-Israeli enforcement|relatedcontent=y}} as that makes clear the sanctions only apply to the "related content". nableezy - 17:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
@Nableezy: done. I was about to but decided to make sure you agreed. It's better even if the page says use the old one. Doug Weller talk 17:59, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Page protection extension, please?

Can you please extend the protection on the List of Perry Mason episodes page? The admin who denied my request to extend the protection said it was because there'd been no edit warring since the protection ended...but that was only a little over an hour. Can we please have the page protection extended long enough to conclude the dispute resolution? Thanks. Dharmabumstead (talk) 07:41, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Dharmabumstead, well seeing as how it is currently at DRN, the edit warring seems to have calmed. Page protection is not pre-emptive. Though if someone reverts the content again, leave me a post ASAP and I will protect the page again. Also, if Zeus Maximus keeps doing his... roleplay? shtick, lemme know too so I can deal with that. OK. Thanks. Dharmabumstead (talk) 07:59, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Looks like instead of going back to edit warring or participating in the dispute resolution and coming to a consensus on the existing List of Perry Mason episodes page, he's just cloned it and started his own. Dharmabumstead (talk) 23:23, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

intro to editing ancient history topics.

Hi. Just letting you know, I have begun a draft of a brief intro to editing ancient history topics. what do you think of this draft? I have asked User:Iazyges to look this over, and to help me to develop this document. If you wish, please feel free to add any sources you wish to the list below.

Hi, thanks for blocking the vandal from U.N.C.L.E. Heads up that multiple vandals have targeted articles related to Armie Hammer. You can use related changes here to detect such edits. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:51, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi Eek. I am interested in seeking adoption.

MikaelaArsenault (talk) 19:16, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

MikaelaArsenault, Howdy hello! I'd love to be able to help. For starters, can you answer a few questions?
  1. What are you looking to get out of adoption?
  2. What articles are you interested in editing?
  3. What subject areas interest you? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:46, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

1. What are you looking to get out of adoption? Providing reliable sources so that I can have the ability to edit BLP's and deceased people again.

2. What articles are you interested in editing? Movies, Music, Sports, TV shows.

3. What subject areas interest you? Movies, Music, Sports, TV shows.

Issues at one article

Hello, will you take a look at this article which is currently in a bad condition.[6] One editor reverted my edits despite various issues with the text. The intro really needed a clean up since it was too long and not about Iraq but Mesopotamia. It honestly seems to be an attempt to push down our throats that there is a link between Iraq and Mesopotamia (The first sentence in the article: The Iraqi people, sometimes colloquially, Mesopotamians, or the people of Mesopotamia is honestly laughable. I justified my edits in the edit summary but one editor reverted my edits claiming the info was sourced and extremely relevant. Some of the references don't even mention 'Iraq' and some are straightforward bad sources (ref. 24 is a blog). Thanks in advance. --Semsûrî (talk) 15:50, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

"Feku Diwas"

It's a slang in Hindi, see "Feku" and "feku" on Wiktionary. "Diwas" or "Divas" simply means Day. — Hemant Dabral (📞) 04:20, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Hemant Dabral, I appreciate the explanation :) I've taken care of it CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:46, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Three Year Letterman

Hello, I have a question regarding the speedy deletion of the draft for the Three Year Letterman page. Why was it nominated for speedy deletion? It did not violate any criteria. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CoachLettermanStan (talkcontribs) 23:53, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

CoachLettermanStan, WP:G11 (promotion) definitely applies. As evidenced by your username, and the tone of the article, you intended to promote said Coach. Wikipedia is not for promotion. The language was also hardly that of a formal encyclopedia. Wikipedia writes articles about subjects that have received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources. Unless your coach gets a book written about himself, or a write-up by a major news organization, he's going to have to stick to Twitter. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:10, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Alicia Garza

Regarding our discussion yesterday on IRC about Alicia Garza when I removed the info after the subject of the article's request, editors have been re-adding it. I removed it, informing the editors that the information has been in the article since 2015, but that the sources were only published in 2018, so WP:CIRCULAR. That's what someone had mentioned on IRC. But then I noticed that that is inaccurate - the information was only added after the publication of the sources, so I self-reverted.

However, I thought we had established yesterday that since I was emailed that the subject of the article is being personally attacked based on the info in question, the appropriate thing to do is err on the side of caution, and keep the info out of the article. If so, why are editors adding it despite the fact that I explained that in my edit summary?

Thanks for the help, Hillelfrei talk 16:24, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Hillelfrei, If editors think the personal life section should be kept, it would be best to open a talk page discussion. I question if the date of birth is right, or even necessary. It is sourced to blackpast.org, which seems to be hosted on a wordpress-esque cite, so I question if the content is user generated...but this seems to be a question for a talk page or perhaps the WP:RSN. The BLP Noticeboard might also be a good place to ask. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:47, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Ok. One question - if I start a discussion, is the email I received relevant? Or, is it the case that now that the content removal received pushback, the subject of the article would have to go through OTRS and the email is no longer a factor? Hillelfrei talk 18:37, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Hillelfrei, At this point, it would probably be best for the subject to go through OTRS. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:39, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Unblock request by an imposter

Hi CaptainEek, fyi the unblock request you declined at User talk:STAY AT HOME FOR THE NHS wasn't made by that user, but by a confirmed sock of LTA user Shingling334, masquerading as them - see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shingling334. I was going to remove the request, but I saw you had replied. Just to tie up loose ends, maybe you could revert the talk page to the version of 22:11, 23 May 2020 by‎ John from Idegon? Thanks... --IamNotU (talk) 20:59, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

IamNotU, Thanks for pointing that out, that was very cheeky on the part of the LTA...the names were so similar I just glazed right over it. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:44, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Providing Additional Information In Response To Your Message

<ref>https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0258371/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1<ref>

As I do not understand how responding to your message works, I hope I am doing this the right way...

Thank you for your message but your response was woefully inadequate, not to mention insulting. Please read the following for additional information regarding who I am and reconsider reinstating my page. I wanted to have a Wikipedia professional create a new article for me, with more extensive information and proper references but cannot seem to get past the damage done by the removal of my old page (which had very little information on it). Respectfully, it seems you could at least explore my credits (references contained in the information below) and maybe even contact me like the last Wiki Admin (or whatever your position is) did a few years ago (see further info in the following paragraph). I can be reached at 310-858-6709 and at 310-592-8675. (I screen all calls because being a Hollywood actor, I get LOTS of curiosity seekers trying to reach me.)

When I recently asked for my page to be reinstated, you (CaptainEek) responded, actually negating my entire life and 30+ year career, to say "being just an actor is not enough" to be on Wikipedia. Not pleasant to have one's entire life wiped out without ANY direct contact whatsoever. The last Wikipedia Admin, who helped me clear the copyright on my photo several years ago, was kind enough to call me, talk with me, ask questions, find out facts, and determine that I was indeed worthy of a Wikipedia page.

I am NOT "just an actor", as you wrote. I am an established Hollywood character actor working in the industry for over 30 years who has appeared on over 100 television shows and in a variety of movies. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, Actor's Equity Association, the American Guild of Variety Artists, and the Television Academy (producers of the Emmy's) -- please note, an actor does NOT get in any of these organizations, particularly the Television Academy, without extensive credits and career exposure. Even TV Guide cites me as a "celebrity". Among my credits, I have appeared in three different Star Trek series (the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, & Enterprise) and am one of less than a handful of actors who has appeared in both the Star Trek and Doctor Who universes (I made an appearance on the Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood). In 2016, both the MIRROR and the SUN newspapers in London, England cited me as one of only three actors ranked as "3rd place for the most underrated television actor ***OF ALL TIME***" <ref>www.VanEpperson.com/press<ref>, based on research that compared the all time top TV shows with a list of actors to see who had appeared on them more than any other actors (again, you can see that article on my website at <www.VanEpperson.com/press>. I am also a respected acting coach, acting teacher, and personal mentor for actors in Hollywood.

Now, the problem is that every time I ask to create a new (more extensive) page for Van Epperson on Wikipedia, all the system will offer me is that my page does not exist and has been deleted after "discussion". There is no remedy for my page's removal, which means my 30 year acting career is damaged by Wikipedia for not recognizing me even though there are LOTS of other Wiki cites and various websites that cite me as worthy of inclusion <ref>https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Van_Epperson<ref> <ref>https://24.fandom.com/wiki/Van_Epperson<ref> <ref>https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/van_epperson<ref> As you can see, there are a variety of websites that cite me a "Hollywood celebrity". The removal of my Wikipedia page seems to be everlasting and irreparable -- and that does not seem fair in any way.

Please reinstate my page or at least allow me to have a new one created and submit it to see if it is acceptable by Wikipedia standards WITHOUT BEING CUT OFF BY THE PREVIOUS DELETION. I do not mean to violate any Wikipedia rules but after some two decades on Wikipedia, and with a copyright approved photo, a 30 year history in Hollywood, appearances on over 100 TV shows and several movies, I believe there is more than enough reason for me to be listed on Wikipedia. I was not aware my page on Wikipedia was gone until other members of the Hollywood community contacted me to ask why I am NOT on Wikipedia, pointing out that there are MANY actors who ARE on Wikipedia with FAR less credits and notoriety than I have.

NOTE -- Sources are cited in the above information

Yeswolf (talk) 06:34, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Yeswolf, IMDb and other Wiki's are not reliable sources. If you think you meet our notability guidelines, find me 5 news articles from reliable sources that discuss you in detail. Also, I am highly suspicious that any editor would actually call you, that is definitely not something we do these days for privacy and safety reasons. Help with Deleted Post

I was told this is the best way to get some help. You deleted my post for Flirt4Free and wanted some assistance. We went through to ensure there was a neutral voice and to give as much information and references on the topic. Would you be able to help in assisting me to fix this so it can be posted? Eloravsmedia (talk) 15:35, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Eloravsmedia, The voice was far from neutral, and super promotional. GoingBatty's feedback was useful: Phrases such as "longest-running adult cam network", "industry leader", "positioned themselves for exponential growth" and "continued to grow their brand" seem promotional, not encyclopedic. If you really wish to create the page, start it as a draft again, using the article wizard. It will need to read like formal encyclopedic English. Be warned: we don't handhold paid editors. Since you are being paid (and we are not), we expect you to be able to commit the time to read our policies, and figure out how to properly write an article and get it approved. You should realize that not every company can have an article, based on our rules on notability. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:57, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

That was the first draft that was deleted. The article was rewritten without such words and still deleted so clearly it was deleted then without being read. The only word was longest-running cam site because Flirt4Free.com was the first camming site created. This is not my job and posting as a favor. I have read the policies and this site is very conflicting with what it asks to what is even there. My articles are being deleted immediately with no chance to edit them. I understand why they would not want someone who is being paid to post but we have all the information and sources so it doesnt seem fair that we would not be able to post our article. Also I ensured the content was rewritten to not be promotional but only informative.Eloravsmedia (talk) 16:27, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Eloravsmedia, Also relevant is Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Flirt4free, which established that this website was not notable. Now, if you can create a high quality draft with reliable sources that is free of promotional language, you could overcome that. But so far your articles have not. The last deleted version still had issues with poor sources and promotion. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:55, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

I'm not seeing particularly problematic disruption, tbh I'm not familiar enough with the situation to know what's going on. Juneteenth

'ello, Captain, and I hope all is well! I've added a paragraph to the 'celebration' section of Juneteenth, and I think I've expanded it as much as I can. I know it's painfully short, but there's also painfully little written on the topic. Anything you could add or neaten up would be greatly appreciated. I'd be happy to e-mail any of my journal articles to you if that would be helpful. Eddie891 Talk Work 13:48, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Just wanted to thank you for starting this complex article on a historically important topic. I'm a battleship fan (and other ship types as well), and I have Norman Friedman's US battleship and cruiser books if there's something about the USN that might be useful to you. I also have all four Conway's volumes and several other references that will at least give armour thicknesses for particular ships, and sometimes armour types.
