Something to add

edit

In reference to the editing problem, I wanted to add that this person edits with three different IP#'s. The numbers are 63.3.69.133, 63.3.69.136, & 63.3.69.6. The first IP#, was the one that he was blocked from using. You can WHOIS each set of numbers to show that it comes from the same source. This is the link where the user was notified that he was blocked by Oscarthecat:

User_talk:63.3.69.133

I'm not crying over spilt milk, I'm just simply showing that I wasn't wrong on the blocking issue. Otherwise I admit my mistake. Sorry again about the misunderstanding. Take care and have a good week... --Candy156sweet 05:35, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I've had a look over the edits done by that user. Have you been able to enter into a dialog with them on the article's talk page, and highlighted which edits in particular you don't agree with, and why? Thanks, --Oscarthecat 18:08, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Richard Marx

edit

Apologies for not adding the source, but what I have written is correct as stated by Richard himself, http://www.richardmarxonline.com/web/askrichard_aug01.htm I am sorry you felt the statement was POV, but I view it as a fact - the song IS a bitter, and rather vicious attack on another person. I am not making any judgement on whether that is right or wrong. Paul75 23:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. I again slightly edited the statement. I believe it is important to indicate in the article the fact that the song is a negative portrayal and not a positive one I have returned the statement to the "work with other artists" column because I believe this is the most natural place for it - the song is cleary based on the experience he had working with Madonna - I would love to know what happened between them!! I also replaced "pop icon" with "pop star", purely because I don't like the "icon" tag being attached to anyone, but feel free to change back if you disagree...Paul75 00:00, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changing my signature to an ip address

edit

I'm trying to figure out why you changed my signature to an IP address over at User talk:(aeropagitica), during this edit. Aha! I think I know. I bet you were grabbing the [[user:|]] to use in the post below, pasted the IP address in place of my name and then copied it for that use, and forgot to undo the change to my name. Am I on the right track? Otherwise, please explain.--Fuhghettaboutit 04:13, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry about that; I was indeed trying to copy and paste the code. I'm still learning how to use code on here. Again I'm really sorry. Take care and have a lovely week...

Hello. How are you? I have something cool in my sandbox I hope you like it. If you do I can put it in your userpage or you can copy it and place it on your page. Which ever you prefer. It took me a while to figure out the codes. I blend in the colors to add a little contrast to the page with different color pinks. (As you requested) Your talk page should be the same to make it even. I also did some changes on your userboxes which are now on the right side of the page. Anyways let me know how you like it. If you need a custom signature. I can help you with that also. Cheers mate :) King Lopez Contribs 09:50, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done Ok so how does the new design look now? I also added an Archive Box to your talk page. Just in case you need to archive the page when it gets too long. Let me know if you need help with anything else. Ok? Cheers :) King Lopez Contribs 10:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia

Ok well if you want to upload a picture of you. Here are the steps to do it.

I put an example image so you can get the idea.

1.You start by putting Image:
2.The picture above is Wiki.png
3.Next you put thumb left
4.150px is the size of the picture
5.And Wikipedia is the title
6.It should look like this [[Image:Wiki.png|thumb|left|150px|Wikipedia]]

You can upload your picture and I can put it on your userpage if you want to? King Lopez Contribs 07:55, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Question

edit

Yes, it makes it easier to find vandals since you can filter out Bot edits, Logged In edits, and whitelist edits (e.g. the admins, and people you add to the list), then you concentrate on IP edits. If you want to use it then use this page to register: User:AmiDaniel/VP/Approval. Hope you also have a good week. ~~ Sintaku Talk 08:53, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question About IP addresses

edit

Okay, I know this sounds weird but somehow when I registered and logged into Wikipedia, I'm recieving all of these warnings about how I modified and changed so many topics when all I have changed in the past are the wkqi and wnic articles. All I have been doing is just using my computer and internet, I have no idea how this sockpuppet behavior works. You will notice a difference in the writer's voice that someone or several people are somehow using the same IP address. If this misuse or vandalism of my IP address continues, I decided not to bother using Wikipedia anymore. All I was adding was just relevant information about WKQI was hosting a controversial Britney Spears suicide bet, supported by the Detroit News [1] and Detroit Free Press [2], but the user: JPG-GR considers it a WP:SOAP argument yet the user deletes the entry completely when he could been seen as violating WP:CENSOR. It seems very awkward that the user wants to watch over radio stations, particularly Clear Channel stations...

Could you please report "JPG-GR"'s bizarre behavior to anybody in the Wikipedia administration? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wxyzdetroit313 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I find it hard to believe that you have just worked on the few topics that you are discussing here. Your IP#'s clearly come from one destination. Just because you have a dynamic IP and, most recently a username, does not eliminate the evidence that you are a sockpuppeteer. I have noticed the fact that you edit articles with one IP and go back with one of your others to edit the same article. Please give me a break here, I'm not stupid. I tried to work with you in good faith and it turns out that it didn't work. So now I'm just going to have to be frank and not so nice about this whole situation. The evidence speaks for itself, so let it drop or face the consequences of your actions here on Wikipedia. Your IP#'s are based in Michigan and surprise your username contains the city name Detroit. Get a life and stop vandalizing articles. --Candy156sweet 18:53, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I don't know who you are honestly referring to, but please permanently block my IP address from editing Wikipedia pages for the site's sake and mine. The last thing I need is to worry about someone using my IP address. I honestly don't have a clue what's happening and I plead with you to permanently block my IP address. I'm worried that someone is sockpuppetting my IP adress from what you have described to me. I'm sorry for our abrasive conversation. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wxyzdetroit313 (talkcontribs) 19:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your IP#'s are obviously from one source. There is no denying what's happening here. That's the bottom line. Saying your sorry doesn't eliminate the evidence unless you have a way of disproving the fact that all of your edits are from the sockpuppet IP#'s mentioned. Good luck! --Candy156sweet 19:14, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not saying that I'm sorry, I'm just saying I don't know what is going on! I mean I use an AOL connection and I'm not sure exactly how they operate their IPs but anyways, please permanently block my IP address from editing the Wikipedia pages. I really don't mind because the way how others are using my IP that's the least to worry about. I would really appreciate it if you could appeal to the Wikipedia adminstration/committee to permanently block my IP address from making any editing changes to the Wikipedia pages. Thank you Candy156sweet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wxyzdetroit313 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here is the sticky part of this situation. Those IP#'s mentioned in the sockpuppetry report do not stem from an AOL IP address. They come from a IP called UUNet Technologies, which is a subsidiary of Verizon. Now if that is the clear mistake, you could argue that point with Wikipedia. Otherwise, I can only say that it doesn't look good from the information that I have in front of me. I can't say that you can dispute that fact in my opinion. With this username you have no record of editing any of the topics represented in your first post on here. The only record of that lies within the sockpuppet IP addresses. I'm sorry, but I really don't believe that you are being honest. --Candy156sweet 21:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

3 Doors Down

edit

Wikipedia is not news; therefore, trivial current events information does not belong in encyclopedia articles. See WP:IINFO #5, wherein it shows that "recent news" sections are not valid article material. MSJapan 04:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I didn't blank the page (which is what blanking is); I removed a section with clear reasoning, and I'll add here that I don't appreciate an inappropriate vandalism warning for it. I would suggest rather than looking at politicians, why not look at something within the subject matter (other band articles) and note the general lack of "recent news" sections; they tend to turn into exactly what the 3DD section is, which is current events and fancruft. Considering the overall history of the band, those items are offhand throwaways that don't really matter. MSJapan 04:36, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
As a note, if I'm not the arbiter what stays or goes, then neither are you, as we are both simply Wikipedia users. The whole pooint of the Wiki is that anyone can edit it, and is free to choose to do what they want within the limits of policy. MSJapan 04:38, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:FLAG

edit

There is a guideline that explains all you need to know about flags: Flag images, especially flag icons in biographical infoboxes, should not be used to indicate birth or death places, as this may imply an incorrect citizenship or nationality. Aspect was right in removing those flagicons. -Yamanbaiia (talk) 23:27, 27 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Candy156sweet, for commenting on my user talk page. It reminds me that I need to specifically comment on why I am doing something. I will not make this mistake in the future. Thank you, Aspects (talk) 00:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

(This is in reference to the question you asked on my talk page. I responded both on my talk page and here.)
I removed the flagicons because they did signify the birthplace because they were being used in the Born or Origin field, therefore violating the WP:MOSFLAG#Not for use in locations of birth and death. In addition Chad Kroeger's page uses the Alberta flagicon without being directly relevant to the article, which would go against WP:MOSFLAG#Do not use subnational flags without direct relevance. Also both pages use the flagicons as decoration since they follow the links of the places they represent against WP:MOSFLAG#Help the reader rather than decorate. These are the reasons I removed the flagicons from Chad Kroeger and Richard Marx. Aspects (talk) 22:55, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

Please stop trying to act like an administrator. Checking your contributions, you haven't reported anyone for vandalism and I'm pretty sure you won't. Also, checking your contributions again, I see you tried to make a page that I linked to... perhaps the page you were meaning to edit was User:Fractions/msg? I provided the link so you can try and repeat your message, maybe it'll have a better effect. If you do, indeed, attempt to report me for vandalism, which I've never done (you can check my contributions), I'll submit a counter-claim. In case you didn't know, user pages that were made by the user (in this case, ME), it's NOT vandalism. I don't expect someone like you to keep this on your talk page... it doesn't matter. I've said what I've had to say, and this time: you've been warned. FRACTIONS (t | c) 18:21, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

How could you file a counter claim when I have never once vandalised a page here on Wikipedia? I had no problem with you until you made one. I simply warned the account of Veale728 for vandalising articles titled Nickelback, The Long Road Home, and Chad Kroeger. Subsequently, I received some reversions of my warning on that talk page, and some nasty remarks on this page from you. Why would you need to revert on that page and why would you feel the need to use that terminology with me? The only thing that you seem to exhibit is defamatory behavior and not one reason to back it up. Oh and by the way, it's every editor's right to revert and warn about Vandalism here on Wikipedia. It's people like yourself that take all the joy out of editing Wikipedia. Unless you have a good reason for this dispute, and I suspect you will not, the discussion about it is over. I refuse to edit war with you. --Candy156sweet (talk) 00:35, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Dildo, if you read my response correctly, I never said that I was going to accuse you of vandalism. I just said I'd counter-claim. And you're right, it is every editor's right to revert! So, why would you ask me "why would you do that"? And it's people like me who give humor to Wikipedia. People like YOU, the far-off-the-scale liberals who feel that EVERY edit is vandalism take the fun out of Wikipedia. Don't respond, I've already reverted the page of mine that you vandalized. FRACTIONS (t | c) 02:07, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Calling me a dildo is vandalism. Me responding politely to you and reverting and warning on the talkpage in response to the vandalism on the aformentioned articles IS not vandalism. You're not humourous, you're a nuisance. --Candy156sweet (talk) 02:33, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image question

edit

Read through the Image use policy. If it's a photo that you took yourself, then you own the copyright, so probably the easiest way is to release it to the public domain to be published in Wikipedia under the GFDL. Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Let me know if this answers your question! Hope you're having a great weekend! Dreadstar 21:10, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just to clarify a little, if you took a photo or scan of a can of Campbell’s Soup or something copyrighted like that, it’d be fair use because its logo is dominant in the picture. In the case of a personal photo of a band that you took yourself, that’s probably a good PD/CC/GFDL image and would best be put on Wikipedia Commons since it’s a free image. Marx album

edit

The criteria for inclusion is here: Wikipedia:Notability (music)#Albums. Is that what you were looking for? If the article cannot be sourced, let me know and I'll delete it. Dreadstar 00:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is itsmyright, I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, in order to respond to the message you sent to me. At least, I hope it's right. But considering the Richard Marx pages, I'm just a newbie trying to help expand the fan's knowledge of everything he's ever done. Which included singles that may or may not have charted in America or in other countries. Simply because it didn't chart or there isn't a citation of it doesn't mean it never existed. I see lots of things not only on his pages but other pages that don't have citations and are still listed. And I noticed that minutes after I made my changed, you were there. So I really have to ask (without trying to sound like an ass about it) are you a wiki police? I am going to presume that you work for wiki and are not a Richard Marx fan because everyone who is a fan knows that he's got two albums coming this fall, and that they are indeed titled Emotional Remains and Sundown. Go to richardmarx.com and you will see what's going on. But anyways, please don't mistake this as some bashing message that I've noticed in your archives. This is just a friendly little message to find out why my facts are being deleted simply because you don't know of any citations. Just remember, no citation doesn't mean it's true or real. Not to step on any religious beliefs but I do have to ask...for the believer, does someone have to have a citation saying God/Jesus/Budda/Allah/whatever exist to believe? Also, for the nonbeliever, who's the say that the Holy Bible was only written by an author like Harry Potter was written by JK Rowling. Just something to think about. If I have offended you in any way, please accept my apologies. I meant no offense in anything. Hopefully we can resolve in something instead of a one way thing. Oh, and thank you for the welcome. Have a nice day...or night... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsmyright (talkcontribs) 01:57, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since there are no reliable sources for the content, the article has been deleted. I would suggest putting the information in the artist's own article per Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums until there are sufficient reliable sources for the content to merit a stand-alone article. Dreadstar 02:36, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The citation was in the reference. At the bottom of the page, you will see a link for the Richard Marx Chart History. I listed that link as the reference for the titles of Have Mercy and Nothing You Can Do About It. And you never did answer a previous question, again, not to be sarcastic but are you a wikipolice? Have a good day. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsmyright (talkcontribs) 22:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think I took care of it; deleted the article and didn't restore the problematic edits. I'll get an oversight admin to review it too, make sure it's completely gone. I blocked the IP and semiprotected the article. Dreadstar 21:34, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
At least I got the page started. Give me a few weeks and I will add all of the links that need to be put there. I got some of them started. I did change the format to make it look better. I will find some citations. However, I know there will be some I won't be able to find. That doesn't mean they will be deleted. Don't worry about cleaning it. Let the job to me, but again, it will take a few weeks. I will leave the improve and clean boxes on there for the time being until I feel I have put enough to links to remove them. But I must commend you, that was an excellent name change. Good job. Oh, btw, everything on that page, I got from my own personal CD collection. Most of them had everything that I needed listed, other have just one sheet with the album cover on the front and a blank page on the back. But it was also common knowledge. I'm considering going to Richard's concert in Chicago this weekend. I don't know if I'm going to or not, being that it's an outdoor event. I don't mind outdoor events as long as it's real close to home because you never know what the weather is going to be like. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsmyright (talkcontribs) 00:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

About Richard Marx albums

edit

Hi there, please check out WP:ALBUMS, in particular about naming conventions. Disambiguation in article titles is only necessary if more than one article has the same title. Additionally, there is no need to put the artist's name in the title unless there is another album sharing that title. Example: Repeat Offender (Richard Marx album) or Repeat Offender (album) are not necessary because no other article exists with the title Repeat Offender. Please also note that prepositional and incidental words within a title are not capitalized unless it is the first word (i.e. "the", "in", "for", "and", etc.), although you probably already know this. Thanks! - eo (talk) 15:56, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I do recall saying I liked the title. So after thinking about it, I think there should a seperate page highlighting his appears on other artist's CDs as a singer or a player. And Celine Dion did record a version of DWMF. I thought you knew about that.Itsmyright (talk) 07:15, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm not upset. We both should present our sides so they can make a decision.Itsmyright (talk) 07:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
That is something to think about. But there should be something detailing the list on a year to year basis like the production page and in the process, clean all of that written off the main page.Itsmyright (talk) 07:29, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
There was a good number of those edits that I found, I could not find online, for example, the Whitney Houston debut CD. I couldn't find anything online about it until I bought the actual CD and it listed RM on four of her songs. Yet, nothing was listed online for that. That just goes to show the downside to wiki, just because it's not citable anywhere online, does not mean it's not true. So how would you go abou that? And also I've been meaning to ask you, when I cited the new album names and actually put it on the production page, you deleted it saying it done incorrectly. I don't understand that. I did it exactly how I've seen it on other pages.Itsmyright (talk) 07:37, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

deletion

edit

Ugh, I really wish you didn't do that. I'm not mad or anything but it was completely unexpected. Some album pages can only go so far and there would be nothing left to be put on it. I'll do some digging. If I have to, I'll steal an idea from the Repeat Offender page...a personel section listing the different people who were on the CD. Sometimes a little info and a track listing is all a page needs...plus it's always helpful to have a pictue of the album cover so that people would have an idea of what to look for. Ok, I'm rambling here. I just hate to see these pages deleted. I'll find a way to keep them open. They will not be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsmyright (talkcontribs) 02:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, there's a difference. The production/songwriting page it just that. The reason I created the category is so that I could insert that category onto all of those other pages for people who have no idea that Richard produced a track or three. Let's say someone really liked This I Promise You and looked on here for checked out that album and they notice this little category saying albums produced by Richard Marx. "WHo's this" they might ask and check out...lo and behold, "Wow, he helped produce all of these albums? Wow!" ....or so it sounded good :-) Itsmyright (talk) 03:13, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm scheming up an idea here, it would change how the discography page looks a little bit but it would keep the spirit of the page true. Give me a couple days to work on it (not the page, but the idea) and I'll present it to you and we can figure out what we can do. How's that? Itsmyright (talk) 19:46, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I think I've got it, I'm putting the finishing touches on the singles charts and what I'm gonna do is wait until you're online and then I'm gonna blank the discography page and put what I've got in there, just look at for a few minutes and I'll change it back and let me know what you think Itsmyright (talk) 17:31, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for the correction Bruce Gaitsch's name. I don't know how I missed that. Hey, I've been thinking, when the time comes, should create one page for the new albums, or one page for each album? I'm not sure how to go about that since both albums are being released at the same time. I'm thinking one page for each but just wanted to check and make sure. Yeah, I've noticed over the last six months that you have had a lot of problems with the guy. I checked out that link you gave me, I had no idea he had that many IPs. I went through some of the history and looked at some of the edits the guy made and most of them looked harmless to me. But I can see it being a problem if he continues it over and over. But I'll keep an eye out of the guy and we'll see what happens. But from what I've seen, I don't think he will ever go away. Jeremy706 (talk) 03:00, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Damn, either he's a computer hack or he knows you personally in order to know personal things about you. I remember him calling you a certain female tool some time ago unless that was someone different. I know we've had our differences but when I saw that, I felt that was totally out of line. Apparantly, you've had him on the defensive in order for him to go childish like that. Oh well. Another hack, another bat. Happy Thanksgiving.Jeremy706 (talk) 06:22, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem, I went through the histories of all those articles and just started laughing. That guy sure is persistent and annoying. I can only imagine your frustrations. Hey! Good job on cleaning up Mr Wells page!! Thank you!
Just one tiny point - you say "After a one year courtship". In fact, it was much less than that, and that which you deleted provided verification of the less-than-six-month period.
But otherwise, I appreciate your clean-up. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I figured since you took the time to edit the page for Wayne Static, I would inform you that I went ahead and place some cleanup, citation, and improvement tags on the page to invite more editors to help add and cite edits on the page. I hope that you don't feel upset about that, because I really did it to be helpful. I will continue to look for the sources to cite the two citation needed tags on the page. Two things:
  • I think the references are now much improved. If you think the tag/template is still needed, then please put it back. If you do put it back, do you think you could supply a "to do" list here so we can address your concerns?
  • Does the article still need the "Cleanup" tag? If so, do you think you could supply a "to do" list of what's still needed?
Many thanks for your work on improving the article.

If you feel that there is sufficient work done to the Wayne Static article that would warrant the removal of the cleanup and citation tags, then go ahead and remove them. I would see if you could find a citation for the edit that talks about Skip to My Lou, and maybe try to find some citations for the edits in the equipment and collaboration sections of the article. I will take a look for those as well. Hope that you have a very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 2009! Always great to edit along with you. (And thank you for the New Year's wish, too.)
Having read your reply, I now think the opposite of what I originally did! i.e. Perhaps the citation tag needs to be put back, and the clean-up tag removed?
What do you think of the "clean-up" status of the article?

So did you/Wikipedia deal with this sockpuppet issue? Or are you going to continue to scapegoat me with this IP address nonsense? I was looking to delete your username from that sockpuppet list, after other recent incidents, because you'd said in the past that you weren't a sockpuppet. So when I looked at your list, I saw that your edit was POV. So I deleted it. That's all... I'm a busy student, I work, and I'm a homemaker. I have no time for silly arguments over one edit. It was suspicious since you made that deletion rather than other users or moderators. Nevertheless, thank you for at least actively investigating this sockpuppet situation. It was frustrating when all I wanted to do was initially add pop culture information here and there to the site (since no other encyclopedic websites did so) and before I made any changes I was bombared with so many accusations. It was more frustrating when I was still associated with the sockpuppet IP addresses when I changed my internet provider a few months ago. -- Wxyzdetroit (talk) 04:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)]Reply

Cynthia Rhodes

edit

Hi there,

When making edits to this page could you please include a summary and reason for those edits? I simply didn't understand some of the changes you made yesterday, most of which read as if Ms. Rhodes herself made them. Why note that Dirty Dancing was a hit, for example, without noting that Staying Alive is almost uniformly considered a terrible movie? Why note that Animotion's single reached #9 without noting that the album itself did poorly? And why eliminate even non-adjuticatory notes along the lines of Ms. Rhodes joining the group for its third album? Finally, a lot of the language you restored appears to me to be PoV. Who decides what a "very fruitful" career is? She only appeared in two sizeable hits, and only one of those roles was as a featured performer. She also appeared in three movies that were savaged by the critics. In fact, as IMDB only has her in six films, 50% of her relatively brief career was invested in critically unsuccessful films. How is a short career in bad movies "very fruitful"? These are the things I hope we can flesh out. Also, I don't know what makes one Baptist family (American Baptist? Southern Baptist? Independent?) more "sturdy" than another, but that appears to clearly be a PoV phrase. Thanks much for your contributions! --Vaudedoc (talk) 02:17, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I think you misunderstood my post above. Yes, I know CR is listed on IMDB, and, I didn't miss that. Read the sentence above: "In fact, as IMDB only has her in six films, 50% of her relatively brief career was invested in critically unsuccessful films." Clearly, I read her IMDB listing because I A) cited IMDB, and B) referenced the number of films it had listed for her. Cheers! --Vaudedoc (talk) 03:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pardon, you were reading two different notes. In the edit note you mention I was referring to the fact that Ms. Rhodes is not listed on IMDB as being in "One From the Heart." In my first note on your talk page, however, I referenced her being on IMDB. Also, part of the reason for occupying time with "explaining myself" is because you didn't leave any reasons for any of your edits, meaning I was trying to explain why I had made mine in hopes you might explain why you felt she came from a "sturdy" Baptist family. Best. --Vaudedoc (talk) 12:31, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not all minor edits

edit

Hello, I'm wiring in regard to some of your recent edits on the Cynthia Rhodes page. You've marked nearly all of your recent edits (40 out of your 44 consecutive on this page) as "minor," but many of them don't appear to fall within WP's guidelines for this:

A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: type corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content.... Any change that affects the meaning of an article is not minor, even if the edit is a single word, for example, the addition or removal of "not", which can vastly change the meaning of a sentence, paragraph, section or article.

Quite often, your edits absolutely affect the meaning, tone, and correctness of the article. When you shift a sentence from stating that "Rhodes tried to maintain a clean-cut image..." to "Rhodes maintained a clean-cut image..." it leads to some natural questions that come down to your PoV. She might have refused to appear nude, for example, but her most famous role was that of a person who had extra-marital sex and an abortion. Many people would not consider that "clean-cut," though your edits make it appear that this is is accepted claim. Earlier, the article contained notations of success only at times when it benefited the subject. Dirty Dancing was noted as a hit, for example, but Xanadu was not noted as a failure. You removed the notation of the latter cases, but in marking it as "minor" implied that there was not a substantial change in tone. There was. If someone found a brief way to note DD's success (e.g., "the hit film..."), could we not have worked to find an equally successful way of noting Xanadu's failure? At one point in your edits you shifted wording to make the erroneous claim that Sylvester Stallone was the director of Saturday Night Fever. This was later corrected, but because you marked the edit only as "minor" (rather than noting in the box "corrected attribution for SNF director to Stallone") no one else knew to go back and vet it. Without taking the time to briefly detail what effect your edits are having, people are forced to go back and scroll through the entire history of the entry. 32 of your last 44 edits have not contained edit summaries, and some of the remaining six have contained notes such as "added info." About what? Her marriage? Early career? Thanks so much for your continued work on this page. --Vaudedoc (talk) 18:50, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've archived February's entries. --Candy156sweet (talk) 15:57, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:RichardMarx2009.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:RichardMarx2009.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. dave pape (talk) 18:23, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

To be used on wikipedia, an image such as this needs to be under a free license, such as a Creative Commons CC-BY license. An important point to note is that free licenses allow anyone to use the image for any purpose - granting permission just for Wikipedia to use it is not sufficient, and would lead to the image being deleted. If Marx is willing to release it under a free license, he should send an e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for more details, and Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for an example consent letter. --dave pape (talk) 18:45, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
As best I can piece together (without being an admin here to see the deleted file pages), User:Cyndeg previously uploaded File:Richard Marx.jpg and File:RichardMarx-2008.jpg, but both were deleted for WP:CSD#F4 - lack of license info. From that & the upload logs, I would guess that Cyndeg never added a license tag (such as {{cc-by-sa}}) to the image pages - a pretty standard deletion, as some sort of free license or non-free tag is mandatory for all images. Perhaps they sent the permission e-mail, assumed all was well, and weren't aware of the missing last step. Or possibly the permission e-mail wasn't entirely correct, and they missed a note requesting clarification (as I understand, the semi-automated e-mails sent back from OTRS are poorly laid out, and many people miss an important part at the end of the message).
So, again assuming Marx's management is releasing the image under a free license, not just "permission for Wikipedia", the steps to take would be:
  1. send the permission e-mail
  2. make sure you/they get a response saying everything is correct
  3. add the correct license tag to the image page (and remove the non-free tag)
  4. get an OTRS volunteer to add the {{PermissionOTRS}} tag to the image (somebody should do this automatically, but it might take a little while, depending on backlogs)
Another subsequent step would be to move the image to Commons, so that it can be used in the Richard Marx articles in other languages (really one could start there, but as long as the file's already here, it would be better to clear things up here first). --dave pape (talk) 20:31, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not to worry, no one will associate your account or you with an IP that once vandalized almost two years ago.
