Hello, Calebny, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jack Martini is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jack Martini until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. PureRED | talk to me | 16:08, 12 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • I wanted to explain why the page was nominated for deletion. Ultimately it was because the article lacked coverage in independent and reliable sources to show that Martini passed notability guidelines. The majority of the sourcing provided in the page is primary, meaning that it's something that was released by Martini or a person/organization that is affiliated with him somehow. You can use primary sources to back up basic information, but it should be used sparingly and it cannot be used to establish notability for Martini.
You also used several links to the Apple store. I had to remove these from the page since they're e-commerce sourcing, meaning that their primary purpose is to sell something. Using links like these can make the page seem unintentionally promotional, even if this wasn't your intent. I also pruned the external links section, as you had links to Martini's social media accounts and Soundcloud as well as his official website. Per external links guidelines the links should be kept to a minimum and since these links were all in his official website, I removed all but the official website. There's no way that you could have known this about external links - this is something that I didn't learn until after about a good year of editing on Wikipedia - so this is more just to explain why I changed that.
The only thing in the article that really contributes to Martini's notability is the mention of him performing at the Governor's Ball this year, however it doesn't look like this performance alone will be major enough to keep the article. It's still possible to save the article if there's coverage of him and his works in independent, reliable sourcing, though. If the article is deleted, don't take this badly. Almost every Wikipedia editor has either had an article deleted or had their edits removed/reverted at one point in time. You did a good job of laying out the article and who knows - after Martini releases his album he may have enough coverage to then pass notability guidelines. It's not uncommon for that to happen with musicians, after all. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:52, 13 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
