Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Please explain your edits in edit summaries edit

I noticed your removal of some material from the backpacking (wilderness) article, but you did not provide any explanation why you though the material should be deleted. Since this is a common trait of vandalism, I looked over your edit history and see your edits are all quite helpful, but you have not filled in one edit summary in the last 250 edits. Most of them would be adequately explained with something like clean up citation handling or fix broken citation tags. The boilerplate for warning an editor failing to use edit summaries is:

  Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks!

There was an older version which was more explanatory: Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary for your edits. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you.

Somewhere, there used to be a version which mentioned edit summaries appearing in special:recentchanges and your edit history. Please keep up the good work and add the purpose or intent of your edits to help other editors. —EncMstr (talk) 07:08, 30 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
