Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. Deleting PRODs early
Hello, Cactus.man,
Is there a good reason that you deleted PRODs On a white bus and Spouse of the Supreme Leader of Iran early? Could you not wait another hour? Often times editors can come in at the last minute and remove a PROD tag. I don't understand the hurry to delete them before the 7 day period expires. It would also help if when you deleted an article you removed all of the red links created by that deletion which is easily done using Twinkle. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 23:17, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Liz,
- Thanks for your message re the above. Having now reviewed the facts it appears, to my mortification, that you are correct. The deletions were in fact slightly ahead of the 7 day deadline, albeit by around 40 minutes or so. I have no real excuse for this, other than I'd had a long and quite stressful day. Not really good enough though, and I'll try to take more care in future, so thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think the likelihood of a last minute "rescue" for these articles was quite slim and I do try to check links before deletion and try to deal with those "of consequence" such as Wiki Projects or other articles etc. My apologies if I failed in this instance. I was originally an opposer of the PROD procedure but, given the appalling standard of some material that creeps into mainspace, I now support it. Thanks again for the notification.
- Best wishes, -Cactus.man ✍ 14:12, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Amou Haji
Hi Cactus.man. I recent declined a G4 speedy deletion request for Amou Haji because the article content was not the same as the version previously deleted through AfD. I see that you've deleted it. If I'm not mistaken, the article didn't meet the requirement of WP:G4 that the copy be "sufficiently identical". Have I misunderstood? Cordless Larry (talk) 10:43, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Cordless Larry (talk · contribs),
- Your interpretation of the G4 criteria is obviously correct. Unfortunately, when I was comparing the previous versions I inadvertantly clicked the wrong date revision and they appeared to be substantially identical, hence my speedy deletion. I will restore the deleted article with the Speedy request removed, and leave it for others to consider whether it's worthy of retention or needs a fresh AFD.
- Sorry for the misunderstanding. --Cactus.man ✍ 11:19, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- No problem! Thanks for fixing this. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:36, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Can you also un-delete Talk:Amou Haji? Gazozlu (talk) 16:12, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Indonesia u20 results deletion
Hi, I understand you felt the article regarding Indonesia under 20 football teams results deletion was because it was similar to the previous deletion. But this time I’ve added the references as stated from the previous deletion reasoning to add references. It’s the same structure as Indonesia u17 football results. So I kindly asked to reinstated the article, and If you still think this violates the rules, I kindly asked you to fill up the required information for the article. Because this article is important to keep records of the results. Since the senior and u17 one already existed, the latter being almost the exact identical to the u20 one. Marco Setiawan (talk) 03:13, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message re: the Indonesia national under-19 football team results deletion. I understand your desire to see these additional results being added, but the discussion at the deletion AfD was quite clear that the article violated WP:NOTSTATS and under 20 team results do not merit a standalone article on Wikipedia. I agree with that premise, so will respectfully decline to reinstate the article or add additional information. Also, the results are duplicated to a large extent in the Indonesia national under-20 football team Article. You are welcome to add any additional information you feel is relevent to that article but, as always, this is open to challenge or alteration by other editors. --Cactus.man ✍ 08:26, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Aytaç Doğan
Hello, my article for Aytaç Doğan was deleted because of section A7 and I was wondering if I could receive the article text again to potentially improve it? Thanks! Soapwort (talk) 21:28, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I've restored the contents of the deleted article Aytaç Doğan as you requested to your userspace at User:Soapwort/Aytaç Doğan, where you can work on it further. Best wishes --Cactus.man ✍ 11:12, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Hello @Cactus.man, I hope you're doing well. Can you restore the content of the deleted article in draft space, which would be helpful in improvement. Thanks for your consideration. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 05:42, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I've restored the contents of the deleted article Qala(film) as you requested to your userspace at User:C1K98V/Qala(film), where you can work on it further. Best wishes. --Cactus.man ✍ 12:02, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Cactus.man, Hello again, kindly have a look at Draft:Qala (film), Draft:Qala (2022 film) and Draft:Qala (film) duplicate. I want your assistance with the clean up, improvement and merge. Thanks for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by C1K98V (talk • contribs) 17:57, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi C1K98V, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I've been a bit busy IRL. Article assessment is not an area I do a lot of work in, or have much experience of, so you may be better served by seeking out an editor more experienced in this area. I don't have any names I could recommend but it may be worthwhile perusing Category:Wikipedia AfC reviewers to get help from suitable editors experienced in this regard.
- I've had a look at the Draft articles you asked me about and I'll give you my initial observations, for what it's worth. There are numerous sources listed including press releases, many of them only cover the film superficially or not in enough depth to satisfy the notability guidelines of WP:NFILM. Several are also not recognised by the community as suitably reliable sources - see WP:RS/P. You've also had some feedback already from AFC reviewers which you should take heed of, particularly keeping multiple variants of the same article in Draft space. This creates unneccesary work for volunteers and you'd be best advised to move variants to userspace and avoid submitting for AFC review until you've finalised a "definitive version". I understand these were not all created by you, so perhaps co-ordinate your efforts with the other relevant creators. Also, don't forget to "uncomment" the fair use image of the film poster if the article goes "live". Fair use images are only allowed in Article space.
- I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help right now, but I wish you well in getting the areticle up to a suitable standard. --Cactus.man ✍ 12:36, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Page deleted by mistake?
Greetings from Sweden!
You deleted Comparison of JavaScript charting libraries, but the deletion log shows that you refered to a deletion discussion about Comparison of risk analysis Microsoft Excel add-ins.
This archived version of the deleted page shows that user:Pppery suggested a deletion of that page, but refered to the deletion discussion about the second. The deletion of the first page was never discussed? The page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison of JavaScript charting libraries never existed?Tomastvivlaren (talk) 16:39, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
- There was no mistake. My WP:PROD was a way of saying that the first article had the same problems that lead to the deletion of the second article. I see it has now been contested and sent to AfD. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:32, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
Kind request for userfication of deleted article
Hi, I just picked you randomly from Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles. Could you please provide me with a copy (e.g. in my Sandbox) of the recently deleted article Center of mass (relativistic)? I found this article quite useful for my work in the past and was unaware that one cannot access the history of deleted articles, hence unfortunately I didn't keep a copy. G4 deletion of Ayaz Sheikh
Hi, I saw you declined the G4 deletion of Ayaz Sheikh as the page was speed-deleted earlier. However, the page is just a copy of the recently deleted one following AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ayaz Sheikh, which was closed just a few hours ago. Should I open a second AfD, even it it's rather clear that the page is a recreation of a deleted one? Broc (talk) 16:47, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi User:Broc, thanks for your message.
- I understand your point and agree to some extent, but technically a new Speedy nomination falls afoul of the G4 criteria. I'm not a big fan of process wonkery and generally frown upon it, but the "rules" have evolved over time, usually for a good reason. So I think the best course of action in this instance is to take the article to AFD.
- Best wishes --Cactus.man ✍ 18:40, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hey Cactus.man. In the future I think you can accept a G4 in this situation, per Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Repeated Speedy Deletions (or: is AfD sovereign?). Hope this clarifies things. –Novem Linguae (talk) 02:58, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Novem Linguae.thanks for the note. I still find the wording of the G4 criteria a bit confusing, no matter how many times I read it. To my simple brain, it veeers into the semantic complexity and impenetrability of logical thinking involving Double negatives. I'll ponder over this longer, but thanks to User:Thryduulf, whose commentary in that thread on the interpretation of the wording I found the most helpful.
- Thanks again. --Cactus.man ✍ 12:04, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Deletion of my wiki page

- Hello User:Madhav6763 your page Draft:Madhav (Founder & CEO) had been nominated and tagged for Speedy Deletion by User:SafariScribe under criteria G11 of the deletion policy. The policy allows for deletion at any point in time after a page has been nominated if the deletion is uncontested. You would have been notified on your userpage of the tagging for speedy deletion. To assist you in understanding the process I have reproduced the contents of the page tagging prior to its deletion below:
- I hope that explains matters for you. --Cactus.man ✍ 13:36, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Userfication Request
Hello, I recently attempted to make my first article, Joshua Tomar, and incorrectly tried writing it as a live article instead of a draft. The article was speedy deleted before completion. Can I have the deleted article userfied as a personal draft so I can work on it again, complete it, and send it in as a draft? If that works can I also request the first article on the page, which was written by someone else and also deleted? I'm unable to view deleted articles, but being able to see it would help me better understand the context of the prior deletion discussion and let me know which of the things I'm writing that will make the article qualify for permanence. Regards KEP95 (talk) 01:00, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- @KEP95: I have Userfied the article to User:KEP95/sandox/Joshua Tomar. I have also restored the previous page from 20 September 2023, at 17:24 to User:KEP95/sandox/Joshua Tomar original. I hope that's of some use to you, regards. --Cactus.man ✍ 17:13, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
