York Civic Trust page additions

Hi CYSYork. I note your recent additions to the York Civic Trust page. I'm Assuming good faith of these additions, but I note from your editing history that you are primarily concerned only to topics which relate to the Civic Trust. I may be off the mark here, but if you are a member/organiser of the YCT I would strongly encourage you to read the Wikipedia policy on conflict of interest and avoiding editing things which break this. If I am correct, please try to avoid editing COI pages and perhaps add in pertinent references to the talk page of those concerned, or be sure to make any edits follow a neutral point of view. I think some of the recent edits to the York Civit Trust page promote it un-necessarily and this could be argued to be no longer neutral. I will be editing the recent additions to try and make sure that they agree with this important point. YCT

Hi again. Ok, in answering your query I do understand now that you personally aren't YCT, which is fine, but you must understand that you have noted that you are close to the subject and we are watching it's changes closely so that they don't unduly create any imbalance in the article. That said, please don't wholly upload the information to the page again. I understand these edits were made in good faith, but I spent a couple of hours cutting and cleaning up from last time - as the admin mentioned in the discussion on their page: "Please propose further changes on the talk page of the article (by clicking "Talk" above the article, and then "request corrections on or suggest content" in the orange box)". I, and others, will endeavour to add them in so the article isn't lacking. Please note that every claim must be sourced, but we need to avoid too many references to the YCT website itself - this isn't a secondary source (see the official guidance here). Note also that neutrality is King on the Wiki - see the guidance here on what words to watch when you are adding in content.

Also - let's keep all future conversation here on this page, rather than bouncing about on all the other talk pages. Ah, almost. Do exactly that but use the squiggle ones rather than the round ones - {. To add more lines to this conversation, you can see I've added two colons, so on your next response start it with three colons and the text will keep rendering beneath each other - it keeps it easy to read as a conversation. Right, to business. I've looked at the sandbox and I can use bits of it, but some of it looks like pieces that I had already removed. For example, it doesn't need a bibliography because some or all of these texts could be used as actual references. There are also bits of information that are very tangential to the subject of this encyclopedic article, e.g. "and John Snow, who was Queen Victoria’s anaesthetist, and also one of the fathers of British epidemiology – it was he who noticed the significance of the link between the polluted water taken from the Broad Street pump in London and the 1854 cholera outbreak in Soho." - in the current version I had culled everything after 'Jon Snow' because he was the subject of his own Wikipedia article and all of that subsequent information is the sort of stuff that would appear on his separate page. I'm sure it is is true, and it is no doubt of note, but that's not necessarily how a Wikipedia article works. The existence of John Snow as a Wikilink (so highlighted in blue) is sufficient to flag this link between the two subjects. Equally, the external links section doesn't need to exist here, as Philip Jackson is already referenced as a Wikilink in the article, the YCT website is in the infobox etc. I'm currently on a research day, but over the weekend I'll read through this in detail in compared with the live version and add in anything that is pertinent and referenced (the charity number jumps out for one) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zakhx150 (talk • contribs) 12:04, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

first of all, thank you very much for creating a sandbox draft and discussing this with other editors. This is almost perfect, although I would recommend discussing it on the article's talk page, not on specific users' talk pages.

But this is not why I'm writing. While I am, in parallel, discussing the situation with Benyon4, I'd like to request the creation of User:CYSYork, your user page. Would you mind:

• Creating your user page with a short sentence that describes your connection to the York Civic Trust, and
• Adding a short statement to it which explains that you are aware of the "meatpuppetry" section of the sock puppetry policy, and that you are, as far as that term is applicable to volunteers, a coworker of Benyon4 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log).
