Different dummy edit?

edit

@Clearfrienda This does seem like a pretty useful script! However, maybe the dummy edit should be adding an extra newline at the end of the page? I feel like such comments will be confusing to future editors. Also, I'd suggesting marking the edit as minor by default. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:11, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Aaron Liu: Thank you for the suggestions. I've made it mark the dummy edit as minor and add a new line instead of the comment, although I couldn't figure out how to do so without also adding an invisible character (U+200B). For some reason I can add a space/new line in the web editor and it will still "register" as an actual change, but it doesn't seem to work when calling the API directly. About namespace restrictions

edit

Hey Clearfrienda! Thanks for writing this script, I'm sure it's going to come in handy for future reviewing. The script is currently displaying a link on special pages (I found it on my watchlist using MonoBook) where it obviously doesn't do anything. I would suggest restricting the namespaces where the link appears, excluding those which use non-wikitext content models and possibly also talk pages, where it would have limited uses. Let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 01:22, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TechnoSquirrel69: Thanks for the suggestion. I was planning on doing this but forgot. The script will now only display the menu link on pages in the article and draft namespace (I don't see it ever being used anywhere else). C F A 💬 00:21, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@CFA This is great, thought you might be interested in another script that does a similar function Wikipedia:Deputy/Attribution Notice Template EditorIsochrone (talk) 12:07, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Force warning

edit

Hi @CFA, this script is exactly what I was planning on writing, lol, thank you for doing it already. I think we should not be forced to warn the author of the article though, I mean, I might just want to leave a notice in my own word to the author without using the uw template. I had to warn one user, revert my edit on their talk page and dropped my own message, why? because there have been many {{uw-translation}} in the user's talk page and I don't want to add to it. This is something you could do right? The script should still proceed even if we do not choose any of the users listed to be warned. Maybe a confirmation dialog could pop up asking if we're sure we do not want to warn the user... but not choosing any user should not stop us from proceeding :) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 09:35, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Done, not sure why I made it a requirement originally. C F A 💬 20:36, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@CFA Thank you! I was also wondering if the script could NOT permanently add the pages we edit to our watchlist? Maybe 15-30 days might be okay? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 10:18, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I disabled adding to the watchlist for now because I couldn't figure out why watchlistExpiry wasn't actually setting an expiry. I'll probably take a look later. C F A 💬 00:37, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
