Speedy deletion of Bolton County F.C.

edit

A tag has been placed on Bolton County F.C. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The team is not notable because they are an amateur side that does not compete in the country's top level of competition, and hasn't otherwise proved notable by some event, such as winning a major competition like the FA Cup. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:53, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
The league as a whole may meet notability standards, but individual teams within the league generally are not. This is a long-established Wikipedia policy regarding sports teams and leagues of all kinds. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 20:03, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Too bad. It's the rule. Otherwise every little bitty club team in every sporting league imaginable could justify its own article. The line had to be drawn somewhere. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 20:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
First of all, please do not create a new section on my user talk page when replying. Simply add your reply below your previous comment. It cuts down on clutter, plus it's the standard way we do this.
Allowing every team of any kind to have its own article would make Wikipedia impossible to maintain (it's hard enough as it is), and make it virtually useless. Otherwise you have people writing articles about the team they support, using information that can't be verified and making it look like their team is on the same level as Man U or the New York Yankees or the like. Moreover, all the information in our articles needs to be verifiable with reliable sources, and with low-level teams that is often impossible. The bottom line is that we want Wikipedia content to be trustworthy and verifiable. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 20:19, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
