Thankyou Kges1901 edit

Dear Kges1901 thankyou for all your extensive recent edits to this page. I reiterate: I will, probably in the next 72 hours, reorganise this page into strict numerical order; splits will be by convenient size blocks in the numbering of regiments; 1-545 and 545 and above was only an initial guess, and may change. Kind regards Buckshot06 (talk) 21:32, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

IMO I would have a list covering regiments between 1917 and 1959, when the National Guard regiments were numbered in the same system as the Regular units, and a separate list for the post-1959 battalions. If I added all the active and reserve battalions this list would be extremely long, so ideally the battalion list would be divided into National Guard and Active/Reserve battalions. This would be due to the nature of lineage differing between National Guard and the rest. 545 would not be a logical split, IMO, since there are few infantry regiments about 545. If one wants to go back to the beginning of the army (the 1790s) the list would be a listing of numerous unrelated regiments sharing the same number that only briefly existed, having been raised for the Quasi-War, War of 1812, Mexican-American War, etc, and then disbanded after the end of the crisis or war. Well, we did separate divisional listings for the Soviet Ground Forces for different periods, we may need the same here; Legion of the United States --> 1917; 1917-1959; and 1959 - present. But for the present, I'm going to maintain everything in here in numerical order, because I am heartily sick of the Army's crazy lineage rules, and as far as I'm concerned, the 31st Infantry in 1850 has an association - would be, at the very least, a WP disambig page - with the 31st Infantry in 1910, and in 1920. People have to be able to find the 31st Infantry at *any* time period they come across a reference to it, which is why the Army lineage rules are so severely unhelpful. Many thanks for all your continuing assistance here Kges1901. I think the Active Army is a whole lot simpler than the NG, and thus our focus on the NG is completely justified. Once we go over 120kB we'll begin considering splits. Buckshot06 (talk) 22:22, 9 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
