My name Brittctodd and I am a junior at Azusa Pacific University. I'm majoring in Communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organization communication. I am currently enrolled in an intercultural communication class and we are contributing to Wikipedia for our class assignment. Along with Cweber10, I am contributing to the Interracial Marriage page. Upon graduation I plan to go into the field of Special Event Coordinating, and then receive my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. Brittctodd (talk) 19:43, 3 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Have you thought about what page topics you might be interested in working on? Ajungle (talk) 01:48, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Amy, I believe I am going to be focusing on Interracial marriage within the United States. I'll also be working with Caitlin Weber this semester on our Wikipedia projects. Brittctodd (talk) 16:32, 20 February 2013 (UTC)BrittctoddReply

I have completed the online student orientation.

Wikipedia 2 edit

I have completed online training, created an account, made edits in a sandbox and have learned the basic rules of Wikipedia. I have also created a user page, and signed up on the list of students on the course page. I Introduced myself to Matthewrbowker and I have also left a message for cweber10 on their user talk page.

I evaluated and left suggestions on The Price of Beauty. I also researched the pages of conflict resolution, nonverbal communication, and interracial marriage.

Wikipedia 4 edit

I added a sentence and a citation to interracial marriage, but have since edited the article and brought in new citations. This is in the section of benefits.

I cannot find your edits or citations, or even an section on benefits within that page. Can you clarify? Ajungle (talk) 07:03, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia 5 edit

I have selected interracial marriage as the page that I am going to be working on this semester. I also added this to the courses web page. Some of the sources I am going to use are Thompson, J., & Collier, M. (2006). Toward Contingent Understandings of Intersecting Identifications among Selected U.S. Interracial Couples: Integrating Interpretive and Critical Views. Communication Quarterly, 54(4), 487-506.

Intercultural marriage advantages

Summary: On "Interracial marriage," we will be adding information and improving their existing article. They already mention and cover intercultural marriage complications, but they do not mention intercultural marriage advantages. We will add to this article the advantages intercultural/interracial marriage can have within individuals personal relationships and also within a family. After this article is improves by us, there will be further information in regards to both the pro's and con's of intercultural marriages, instead of just the complications.

Brief description of our plans: We plan to add to the existing article on Interracial marriage, but provide insight and add Comparing and Contrasting evidence for the benefits and advantages of Interracial marriages instead of just the complications. We will be able to do this by looking at various articles and getting information that support this idea.

Wikipedia 7 & 8 edit

Take Note** I have been working with cweber10 this semester and she posted our article on the interracial marriage page. Therefore, it will not show that I contributed on my page or the intercultural page.

First edition of article:

Interracial marriage benefits

Benefits of Interracial Marriages go beyond the involvement of two people who are romantically engaged with one another. Interracial marriage gives diversity within a family system, open communication for individuals to cultivate so they can have greater depth, and views of people within our world. Through interracial marriage the couples identities in a culture and as individuals intersects with each other, strengthening their self image and identity both as individuals but also as as a married couple and a family system. (Thompson, 490). Interracial marriages and couples do not view their marriage as an interracial marriage, rather they view themselves as a couple and as individuals who love each other (Thompson, 493). This perspective on their own relationship can affect how they see others that they come in contact with in their life or different races, as well as how their children could perhaps view other people of different races. In return, this can prevent the initial biases, prejudices, and typical stereotypes that have become a part of society. Interracial marriages engage not only the two who are romantically involved, but include both sides of the families, children they have together and friends within their communities. Interracial marriage gives you the opportunity to embrace people beyond your own comfort zone or understanding, “Supporting interracial marriage is seen as a vehicle for expressing equality and acceptance of all others.” (Dunleavy, V. 2004)

I will be editing Colsen09, akupratis, and JAtwan09.

Wikipedia 9 edit

Below are the edits that I have added to others articles. I have also shown that I am editing their pages through our class site.

Hi JAtwan09, this article is looking great so far! It was very creative of you to think about writing about a book. Some more suggestions for you include to possible talk about specific experiences that Iyer had in each country as well as maybe a link to the book on amazon. Great job though, you've done wonderful so far. Brittctodd (talk) 19:10, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Colsen09, great job on organizing your page. I noticed that you are going to be adding to the interracial adoption page, however I don't see where your actual addition to the article is on statistics. Therefore, I would encourage you to keep editing and adding. Great job though! Brittctodd (talk) 19:26, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Akupratis Edit: Also, as for your article, great job so far! Your additions to the expatriate article are very good so far. Your references are also very thorough and well thought out. As for editing, one addition you could add to the article is to create more links in your addition to other Wikipedia pages. Also, some of the types of orientation and definitions that you use may be hard for people to understand so perhaps you can define what your terms mean. Otherwise, everything is really great and it all looks really wonderful! Brittctodd (talk) 22:24, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

(Colsen09 edit is on her talk page, and Jatwan09 is on his articles page).

Wikipedia 10 edit

I have responded to Akupratis edits. See below. I have also edited my article and added more sources, as well as fixed how they are referenced.

This is a strong source but is only one. Have you found more sources? Also, is your page Intercultural communication or Interracial marriage? Ajungle (talk) 07:06, 24 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Brittctodd! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Peer Review Edit edit

Hey Britt! I have signed up to be a peer reviewer for your article. I see that you have chosen to study and expand on the Intercultural Communication article. I think this is a great topic and think that you have done a good job at finding some sources. However, I have two major comments for you. First, your article topic is listed differently on the class page. So, I would advise you to change that. Secondly, I have not seen you do a further development of the information you are going to add to the article. I looked on both your talk page and the Intercultural Communication page and could not find any additions by you. That being said, I would advise you to move forward with expanding your article and adding information in regards to your topic. I wish you the best with this project! Peer Review edit

Hey Britt,

I liked what you have chosen to study and add some information about the benefits of Interracial Marriage. There were some grammatical errors and some punctual errors but you have already fixed them. Other than that, it was great! Keep at it! Saifalz (talk) 03:55, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

May 2014 edit

Hello, I'm McGeddon. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Flappy Bird, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.
