Louisiana deleted routes

In order to add a little historical information to the Louisiana infoboxes, I went in and added a few details to some of my own articles. When stating that a highway has been deleted, and the date is between 1955 and 1960, instead of adding LA|US|61 in the box, add LA|US 1948|61 instead. When stating that a highway has been deleted between 1961 and 1969, use LA|US 1961|61 in the box. Since the highways were renumbered after the 1948 spec shield was introduced, it serves no purpose to use the 1926-spec shield. Click on over to LA 840's page to see what I'm talking about if ya want to. Just some lagniappe! Mcdonaat Mcdonaat 06:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

That looks neat. I'll keep that in mind. My only trouble is my lack of concrete dates for many of the route deletions! Britinvasion64 (talk) 16:15, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
I had you in mind when I was doing this. Send me an email, and I will reply... I have a complete list of when every single state highway was created and deleted. Spent about four hours looking through the documents, but it was WELL WORTH IT! Mcdonaat Mcdonaat 02:28, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! I might check that out. Britinvasion64 (talk) 16:02, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Your sandbox

Don't worry, it's fine. I created the missing LA 166 shield (which is how I found it) and corrected the banners so they're all green. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that there are templates for doing exactly what you're doing in your sandbox. {{Routelist row}} was created not too long ago with the purpose of standardizing lists like that one. Sadly, there is no documentation for the template, but you can look at one of the pages that uses the template for usage. –Fredddie 02:00, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

I noticed the discussion on the project talk page about the new templates, and I actually created the list using those templates first. I ran into a few problems however, the biggest being that after about 180 rows I get an error message stating that there are "too many expensive parser function calls" and shields start to disappear. There also appears to be no code yet for entering bannered routes or circa for dates. The table on my sandbox was created quite easily as an experiment by using the find and replace function. I was considering posting this version to the list page temporarily until the other issues were resolved.
Thanks for the missing shield and for correcting the banner color. Louisiana's shields are actually going to need some major re-tooling soon. I'll post something about it to your talk page once I've checked on a few sources. Britinvasion64 (talk) 15:48, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm aware that we're going to have to make all of them over again in the black and white style. We as a project have known about it for some time, but we were waiting until the black and whites outnumbered the white and greens before we made them. I created the template a few months back, so it's just a matter of finding a willing/active shield bot to create them all at once.
I will let Scott5114 know about the parser functions error. The templates use Lua, so I'm not sure why it's doing that. –Fredddie 21:35, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Found this discussion with Echo. Thanks for bringing this up. Much like Parserfunctions, Lua has a limit on the number of calls allowed on one page. (We've had similar issues with this sort of thing on the I-10 TX exit list.) If necessary, we may have to split the list across several pages, or else just use manual table code. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 23:14, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
That's what I figured. Since Louisiana has over 1400 state highways, using the templates would require the list to be spread across 7 or 8 pages. My sandbox has the 1-199 range (basically the primary routes) using regular table code, and it seems to be fine so far - apart from loading a little slowly when you submit an edit. I suppose the list may still have to be split once more routes are added if the page becomes unmanageable, but maybe not as much. Any suggestions? Britinvasion64 (talk) 23:43, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

Hey Britinvasion :). I've given you the "autopatrolled" user-right, to recognise your content contributions. My eye was particularly drawn by List of minor state highways in Louisiana (District 02) - a lovely article :). Thanks, Ironholds (talk) 16:50, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the upgrade and for the kind feedback! Britinvasion64 (talk) 16:26, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Start-Class for USRD

I see that you've recently reassessed several articles to Start-Class for USRD, however, in most of these cases, they fail to qualify for the upgrade in assessment. In short, USRD requires the presence of two of the "Big Three" sections (route description, history, junction/exit list), and to count as a section, there needs to be more than a few sentences. About the only time a history section can be a single paragraph is if the highway was designated decades ago and never changed. Otherwise, we expect more than two sentences in a history section to begin counting it as a section for assessment purposes. Imzadi 1979  16:49, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I had checked the assessment guidelines, but what you're saying clarifies things a bit. I will take a second look over the remaining articles I reassessed with this in mind. Britinvasion64 (talk) 19:51, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

Louisiana 666 and 667 shields

Can you create the 666 and 667 Louisiana Highway shields? They existed from 1955 until 1961, when they were decommisioned (most likely the reason being that 666 is the devil's number) They're the 1955 type, just so ya know. DudeWithAFeud (talk) 03:20, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

The shield experts are better at this than I am. Fredddie seems to closely monitor the articles needing shields and has supplied the necessary shields very quickly for many LA hwy. articles I have edited recently. Tag the article talk pages with "needs-shield=yes" and they will likely be taken care of in a few days or so.
LA 666 and LA 667 were part of a large group of minor routes deleted soon after the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering. LA Dept. of Hwys. (predecessor of the DOTD) was probably trimming some unnecessary mileage from the system or freeing up highway miles for interstate construction, which was kicking into gear during this time. If the number 666 had caused a problem, it most likely would have been given a different number. There was an LA 666 in the pre-1955 system as well (it existed in Lafayette from 1930 to 1955). Super Big Gaps

I've gone on a page-creating binge to try to see if I can make as many Louisiana highway articles as I can. We have to remove all those hideous red links out there. DudeWithAFeud (talk) 00:15, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Louisiana lists

Great job migrating all those short sub-stubs to lists. I'm thinking long term here, but what do you think of making all the Louisiana highways into a list like that? I'm not suggesting we merge them all, but you've clearly activated the Rockland County Scenario. Then instead of the lists being titled "List of minor Louisiana state highways..." they'd just be "List of Louisiana state highways..." In my opinion, that takes away the subjectivity of "what is a minor highway?". What do you think? –Fredddie 02:50, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I figured Louisiana's system was well-suited to this kind of list with the large number of short routes and routes that serve no apparent state-level purpose. I agree that the term "minor" is subjective. I've been using it to describe the farm-to-market system (most routes 300 and above) and the few very short routes in the primary system (1-191) that probably don't deserve dedicated articles. I really like the idea of having the lists cover the entire system, but I have a few questions:
1) For the routes that deserve full articles, should I still include these in the list but with only a brief summary/route description and a link to the main article? And should I omit the junction list for any route with a full article? (avoiding duplication and lengthy jct lists on the list pages)
2) Also, I was planning on doing a separate series of lists for the deleted routes in the current system, but I'm now thinking that it would be better to include them in the main lists. Everything would be in one place, and it would avoid confusion down the road if lists are made for the deleted routes in the pre-1955 system. (I think the deleted routes pre-1955 and post-1955 should remain completely separate since the 1955 renumbering re-did the whole system from scratch.) Do you agree? Britinvasion64 (talk) 19:06, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
  1. Yes and yes. For those routes where the only two junctions are the endpoints, you can probably get away with not including the junction lists.
  2. Yes. I think you have a great plan. –Fredddie 22:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Re: Louisiana Highway 3022 / Interstate 110 (Louisiana)

Hello. I understand why you reverted my change to Elysian Fields Avenue (Louisiana Highway 3021). I made this change related to the effort underway to eliminate the backlog at Category:Articles with missing files. You may have noticed that User:KylieTastic, who is also working (harder than me) on the backlog, reverted your change. I agree that having Interstate 110 listed in the infobox on the page for LA-3021 is not good because LA-3022 is next numerically. The problem is that there is no image for LA-3022. I am not good at building this kind of image. I see that you've been working on Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads; could you construct the image for LA-3022 (that would solve the page's problem in the backlog)? If you look at the category page now, you will notice almost no pages listed through the letter "F". If this change gets reverted again, to show the missing image, I am concerned that the page will simply show up again in the backlog without solving the underlying problem. Thanks! - tucoxn\talk 20:19, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

No problem. I will wait to restore LA 3022 to the infobox until the image is created. (I'll also create a dedicated section for LA 3022 in the history section of the I-110 article to have something more specific for LA 3022 to be redirected to.) Thanks for your comments, and good luck with the backlog. Britinvasion64 (talk) 20:51, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your fast response and thank you very much for understanding! - tucoxn\talk 21:33, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Louisiana Highway 304

Hi, Your comment on the revert you just did [1] was a bit odd. You said there was a 304 and the issue was about the 305, but maybe that was just typo. But you also said go see the list List of state highways in Louisiana which I already had done, and it is not on there either! The list goes from 304 to 306 hence my change. KylieTastic (talk) 16:36, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Please check further down the page. Routes that have been deleted are listed under "Former state highways." (And I did mean 305, sorry about the typo.) Britinvasion64 (talk) 16:39, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Oh, yes I see it now KylieTastic (talk) 16:43, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Louisiana construction map, dated 1927

I've come across a construction map for the state highways, dated 1927, that shows the Hammond-New Orleans Hwy as being planned, along with tons of roads that never came to be. I'm scanning it for personal use... do you want me to email you a copy of it?

Also, I've added a page about DOTD-signed parish routes, so that Interstate junction boxes can have something to grab onto. Most of these parish roads are miles longer than urban state highways, so why not create a page to give a tiny description about them? Let me know what you think, and if you have any parish shield photos, feel free to add them! 'Mcdonaat 22:19, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey, long time no see! Sure, I'd like to see the 1927 map. Regarding the parish routes, have you ever seen official maps of them? A while back I tried searching the websites of a few parishes, and I never found anything like the DOTD maps of state highways. Britinvasion64 (talk) 21:43, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

1957 Rand McNally Louisiana road atlas

Do you have a copy of the 1957 Louisiana highway map? I hear the Rand McNally had the Acadiana Thruway on it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judeconnors (talkcontribs) 22:32, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

I haven't been active here lately, and so I apologize for the late response. I don't appear to have a 1957 Rand McNally map of LA. The closest I have is a 1956 H.M. Gousha map and the 1956 and 1957 official hwy. maps, none of which show the Acadiana Thruway. I feel like I've seen it on a map somewhere, but it must not be one in my possession. Britinvasion64 (talk) 21:11, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

I am looking for the Louisiana maps for 1929 and 1935, do you have them scanned?

Hi Britinvasion,

I am looking for the maps for Louisiana in 1929 and 1935 for my research. Do you happen to have them scanned already?

Thanks

Miguel — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.165.164 (talk) 12:39, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

I haven't been active here lately so I apologize for the late response. I do have the official 1935 LA highway map, but it has not been scanned. I might be able to help if you have a specific question about it. I do not have the 1929 map, but I have a number of other maps showing the highway system for 1929 and surrounding years. Newsletter request

Can you write up a short paragraph to update our readers on what's going on with Louisiana? I see that you've been merging some of the shorter articles into lists. A brief paragraph for the State updates section is all we'd need. You can submit it at WP:USRD/NR. Imzadi 1979  08:05, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Just submitted. Thanks for asking. Britinvasion64 (talk) 19:20, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
