Your addition to Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane

I have reverted your addition to this article, because it is copied from http://www.bne.catholic.net.au/asp/index.asp?pgid=11445&cid=7195&id=1708. Wikipedia cannot accept copyright material - see Wikipedia:Copy-paste and for more detail Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors' rights and obligations.

It seems likely that you could give permission, but assertion of permission to reproduce text is not enough; copyright is a very serious issue for Wikipedia, and we have to be certain that the person giving a release has the authority to do so, and that the actual copyright holder understands and agrees to Wikipedia's license terms, which allow any reader to copy, modify and re-use material for any purpose including commercial. For those reasons, a formal copyright release is required.

The way to make one is described at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, but it is very seldom worth doing that, because material written for other purposes is generally unsuitable, because of promotional tone or inappropriate detail, for an encyclopedia article.

Wikipedia is not a place for people or organizations to tell the world about themselves and post copies of their own websites. In order to maintain the neutral point of view which is one of its fundamental principles, people are strongly discouraged from editing about themselves or their companies or organizations. Even with an individual user account, in any editing to do with the Archdiocese you would be subject to the guideline Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and should read that and the guide to WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. In summary, do not directly edit any article where you have a COI, but suggest changes on the article talk page and let uninvolved editors decide. ("Editor" means just the same as "User" - there is no separate class of "editors").

I am sorry that this is not better explained at account creation time - Wikipedia is keen to encourage new users to join, and it is felt that giving them advice to read in advance might be a deterrent. I have conversations like this so often that I have writtten User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard to explain some of the background.
