Speedy deletion nomination of User:Boston Irish Heritage edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Boston Irish Heritage, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Contested deletion edit

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) --Boston Irish Tourism Association (talk) 12:49, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this opportunity.

There are numerous walking trails in Boston - the Freedom Trail, Black History Trail, Women's Trail, Irish Heritage Trail, all which enrich the Widi reading expeience.

The Irish Heritage Trail is a free walking trail that has been developed over the past 24 years. It is an educational product designed to teach people about one important aspect of the Boston experience. My hope is that other WIKI readers will contribute to it and add specific information about the 20 stops along the trail, many of which refer to Notable Boston Irish people found on another page on Wiki.

In terms of being promotional, my aim in posting it was to just let readers know that it exists, and allow them to enjoy/reflect/contribute to the page as they wish.

Sincerely, Mike

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:50, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

In July 2018 I was notified by Wikipedia that the Boston Irish Heritage Trail page was taken down because of advertising or promotional language. I immediately tried to eliminate any language that would imply advertising or promotion, but I'm not sure what happened after that, except that it seems to have been permanently deleted. I'm unsure of what I can do at this point to reinstate the page, but I would like to respectfully suggest that the trail is worth having on Wikipedia. The trail is a collection of 20 public landmarks in Boston that speak to the Irish experience in the city. In that regard it is just like the Freedom Trail, Women's Trail, Black Heritage Trail and other trails in Boston. I have no personal gain to be made from the trail. But as the person who created the Trail 25 years ago (1994), I believe it belongs on public pages like Wikipedia. I hope you agree, but please let me know what I need to do to convince you.

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with articles(not mere "pages") that summarize what independent reliable sources state about article subjects that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability; Wikipedia is not for merely telling about something. I'm not certain if you are still involved with the Trail, but you seem to have a conflict of interest(please review). To be unblocked, you will need to propose a new username as the block notice instructs along with a simultaneous unblock request where you discuss what other edits you want to make and how they will conform to the policies I mention here. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 19:51, 17 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
