Tom Hawkins edit

- Lead covers many of the following lead points, just needs a bit of tweaking and copyediting into at the most 2 paragraphs.

  • The biography is 5,650 characters (No spaces) and 6,726 characters as it stands today. According to WP:Lead articles < 15,000 characters should be 1-2 paragraphs.
    • 1. Context - see Template:Biography - covered in article BTW very well
    • 2. Characterization - appearance, age, gender, educational level, vocation or occupation, financial status, marital status, social status, cultural background, hobbies, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ambitions, motivations, personality, what the biography refers to as used in the given context.
    • 3. Explanation - deeper meaning and background.
    • 4. Compare and contrast - how it relates to other topics, if appropriate.
    • 5. Criticism - include criticism if there has been significant, notable criticism. Need to compare to other footballers, if appropriate.
        • If the article was to become a feature article or an article chosen for a portal - only the lead would be used - does it induce the reader to desire to know what the article is about and seek further information?

- I'm not sure what issue (if there is one with the links) is apparent, but please do kindly point out any suggestions. This is an automatic javascript program that looks at format issues according to wiki guidelines on the referenced pages. You have an amazing amount of citations compared to a number of articles I have seen. This auto peer reviewer sees that perhaps the same reference is used in close proximity to itself as per the wiki referenced pages... Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) and WP:CONTEXT

- No available images of use as of now. -Fair enough - these are hard to come by sometimes.

On the whole I thought your article was very well done. I have benefited myself from this semi automatic javascript peer reviewer it is so easy to install the program and use it on pages to promote their quality. Good luck in all your endeavours. Infobox afl player edit

What's the go? You're redone the whole 'playing career' section but that has messed every single footy article. Eg Jim Adamson Crickettragic (talk) 09:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mate you've done well, it certainly looks better than before. 5 seconds or not though it's still going to be a pain in the **** manually editing the 2000 plus AFL player articles that we have. Crickettragic (talk) 09:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just a suggestion mate, but perhaps you could make a second infobox which includes these new edits that you have done? This is what is done in WP:Cricket for example which I'm part of, if someone has a new better looking template they make is seperatly instead of in place of the old one. That way while editers go through the task of updating each article, which will take a bit, the yet untouched articles remain as they were. Problem with what you have done is until we edit each player's page they are going to be without the vital section which mentions their career teams and stats. Thoughts? It's not a big issue, but thinking in 5 or 50 years time, we won't really care who made the squad, it's who makes the team that's important. No need to really do anything now, just review it on Sat night or Sunday.The-Pope (talk) 11:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use images edit

Hey, FYI I have tagged two of your images as failing fair use criterion 1 for non-free content - replaceable images of living persons. Images tagged are Image:Brad ottens.jpg and Image:Joel corey.jpg. Haven't checked the rest of the Geelong players' images but you might want to have a look and remove any others like this? AFL infobox edit

Job well done mate, in shaping the infobox, it's now a much more sensible size. For some reason however the 'place of birth' heading now appears, whereas in the past if it were blank, like the 'position' option, then it wouldn't come up on the infobox. As we don't know the birth places of most footy players, or at least those from the VFL era, would it be possible to make that bit optional again. I've also noticed an asterisk after '(goals)', has that been added for any particular reason? Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 09:59, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Joel Selwood edit

Great to see your still around to help as you've done great guns on the article so far. AFL article in the main are really very poor and it would be great to have a FA. A couple Peer Reviews will be needed first, although it's a very solid art with a good amount of refs. The problem with GA/FA on current players is that events are rapidly changing and therefore may not mantain GA/FA standards for very long.Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 11:11, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not sure about the claim that he is the "second-youngest player in VFL/AFL history to win a premiership" at 19. That honour is held by Brian Leahy, with Murray Weideman the youngest. There have been three other 17 years olds who have played in a premiership team - Cameron Clayton, Allan Davis and Charlie Payne as well as numerous 18 year olds. All these though seem to be pre 1990 so perhaps the Geelong Advertiser article only took into account the AFL era? Jevansen (talk) 10:52, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
This may be a better reference to use. Dustin Fletcher and Joe Misiti were 18 year olds in the 1993 premiership team, so even if the journalist was meaning the AFL era it would still be inaccurate. Maybe you could say something like he's the youngest premiership player since 1993? Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 11:04, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article has been given a copyedit by User:Brianboulton. Aaroncrick (talk) 01:51, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

We should probably get Joel Selwood peer reviewed again and then nominate it for FAC, and it should have a fair chance of passing. Or we could possibly ask Matt to have a look over the article. It's getting to a tricky stage now as the season is coming to a climax and more info will have to be put into the 2009 section. Aaroncrick (talk) 06:45, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Gary Ablett - AA years selected edit

Tom Harley edit

Boomtish, I appreciate your sentiments and good faith. Before seeing this message [2] I had already added the stats section back in, on reflection is adds to the article a lot. I see you are working on this article, was wondering about the "missing years" between port and captain. But regarding the intro - and all respect to the FA selwood - can I suggest Roger Federer as a better example. It is brief and a good intro rather than summary. Otherwise all the info- incl how his junior career went, is duplicated. Cheers ROxBo (talk) 12:34, 22 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Another good example is Chris Judd. The bit about ' Harley is an ambassador for the anti-violence program..." is incidental to his notability and does not belong in the intro - like much else. ROxBo (talk) 12:40, 22 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

2008 AFMA Player of the Year award edit

Finally found a reliable source for the 2008 AFMA Player of the Year award, which was in fact won by Brent Harvey, and not Gary Ablett, Jr. This is as listed in the AFL Record Season Guide 2009. I'll add this information into the relevant articles. Thanks, Allied45 (talk) 09:14, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

And Adam Goodes won the '06 award, not Simon Goodwin. Oops! We messed up that award big time! – Allied45 (talk) 09:22, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Kane tenace.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Kane tenace.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Cut and paste move edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Mitchell Duncan a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Corey enright.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Corey enright.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 20:35, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Invite to the African Destubathon edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
