sample chess game

Hi, you shouldn't create articles that only consist of an external link, even if it's a soft redirect. In this case, you could change any article that linked to this article to link to wikibooks instead (with a link to eg. wikibooks:transwiki:sample chess game, although it would probably be best to wait until it's moved away from the transwiki location). Thanks- Bobet 00:03, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I didn't know how to do it properly. I wasn't aware that Sample chess game had been moved until today. I found that it was redlinked on chess terminology, and I found the new location. There were other pages that linked to sample chess game, but they weren't fixed either when the article was moved. Now I can't find out what those links were, or I'd update them. Hi

Hi, Bobet, I need the attention of an administrator so I contacted you. Some user created an article called MyGeneration. I tagged this for speedy deletion, it was a stub, it is a web blog and is possibly blatant advertising. The creator of the article removed my tag, could you take a look and see for yourself? Thanks, --Staffordboy 22:06, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Online colleges

Hi, I noticed that you have proposed a merge of Online colleges to Distance learning. Do you think it would be appropriate to merge Online degrees to the same article? Purgatory Fubar Converse or Snafu 19:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Jonathan Bowers stuff

You just removed the useful information about Bowers acronyms I created and deleted all the redirects I made. These acronyms are found not only on Bowers's site, but many other Web sites mention or use them, in addition to the polyhedron mailing list [1]. This is as notable and verifiable as you'll get in this subject, and it's pretty obvious that, while they may have been just 'made up in school one day', they're established enough now that they're not going away.

Also, they are already used in one Wikipedia article, List of uniform polyhedra. It doesn't make sense to give all the acronyms without explaining what they mean.

In the AfD, all the 'delete' votes were presumably from people who knew nothing about polyhedra or why these things are necessary and useful; whereas User:Salix alba, who first put the stuff up, does. The way, the truth, and the light 04:36, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry if I confused you with my cross-posting. Deleting the redirects was signifcant, since I could have restored the targer. Obviously you do agree with Weregerbil on this. I agree with the 'keep' opinions (and their reasoning) on the AfD ([2]).
If you wish to reply further, please do so on Talk:Uniform polyhedron as I have moved the discussion there (to unify it). The way, the truth, and the light 06:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, may I suggest to protect the page in order to prevent the author from recreating it over and over and over again? Cheers - Myanw 10:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, it's kind of sad some people won't take "no" for an answer... Keep up the good work. - Myanw 11:01, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wikiportal redirects

I initially started from User:Aude/WPredirect and User:Aude/WPindex-w1 – not all of which may be uncontestable deletion candidates as many do have incoming links – but was also browsing through the redirects via Special:Allpages. I have actually looked at dozens of the redirects. Of those I've looked at, I intended to nominate for speedy deletion all of the redirects that come up in the following Special:Prefixindex searches:

In addition to these 144 redirects, there are still 804 other pages that start with Wikipedia:Wikiportal/, but I am not certain that they can all be speedy-deleted per WP:CSD#G6. I do intend to get to those as well, but I will likely check them in my spare time over the course of 2-3 weeks.

Thank you so much for your help ... I really wasn't looking forward to the prospect of tagging another 150 pages (I tagged 150 or so yesterday). Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 20:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikiportal redirects A-G

OK, I just finished checking most wikiportal redirects for the letters A-G. There are a total of 256 that I feel fall under speedy deletion per CSD.G6. I will leave H-Z for tomorrow. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 23:58, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The following 256 redirects contain only a pagemove history that is preserved in the target (and, in some cases, an edit to fix a double redirect) and have only 1 incoming User:Aude/WPindex-w1. I have repaired all links except those from user talk pages (see contribs).

Template:Wikiportal redirects

Would you also delete the 7 redirects that start with "Template:Wikiportal/" ... I believe they fall under CSD G6 as well. None of them are used or have any useful incoming links and all are non-standard pages. The only incoming link to 4 of the 7 pages is from User:Lion.guo/test, which is a user test page of an inactive user (I have proposed its deletion). -- Black Falcon (Talk) 20:35, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Other Template-to-Portal redirects

Thanks for deleting all those pages ... I have found that there are many other template-to-portal redirects which currently are (having no incoming links and being implausible search/link terms) or can be made (by replacing transclusions) useless. Would you mind deleting those as well? If so, I can go through them and compile a list similar to the ones above. There are a total of about 460 pages involved, most of them found here.

Again, I have not checked most of those pages and many cannot yet be speedily deleted as they are currently in use (usually a single transclusion on a main portal page that can be mass-replaced). If you're willing to delete them, I'll go through each one individually (as above). Thanks, Black Falcon (Talk) 16:40, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

P.S. Would you please delete these 8 redirects starting with Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Personal life/. They were omitted from the "Wikiportal redirects G-W" list above.

After a bit of checking, I feel that the following 83 redirects could be speedily deleted:

  • 31 redirects starting with Portal:Latin America/Featured article/Day
    • None of the redirects have any incoming links and all are the result of pagemoves on Dec. 30, 2006 with the pagemove summary "Dropping the year; the rotation of these articles will continue indefinitely".
  • 7 redirects starting with Portal:British Colubmia
    • All 7 redirects are typos (all of them fixed in Dec. 2006) that are no more or less plausible than many other potential misspellings. None of the redirects have incoming links.
  • 22 redirects starting with Template:Wikiportal:Astronomy
    • Initially moved to the Wikipedia:Wikiportal/ namespace, but subsequently moved to the Portal: namespace. None have incoming links and the pagemove history is preserved in the targets.
  • 3 redirects starting with Template:Portal:Association football
    • All 3 redirects are the result of pagemoves (two in 2005 and one in 2007 performed by me) to remove the unneeded/incorrect "Template:" prefix. None have any incoming links.
  • 9 redirects starting with Template:Wikiportal:Association football
    • All 9 redirects are the result of pagemoves and none have any incoming links. As far as I can tell, none were merged and the pagemove history is preserved in the targets.
  • 8 redirects starting with Template:Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Personal life
    • All 8 redirects are the result of pagemoves I performed a few days ago. The only incoming link is from User talk:Ruud Koot, where the speedy deletion notices were placed (I needed to have some pages deleted in order to perform the moves).
  • 1 redirect starting with Template:Wikiportal:marinelife
  • 2 redirects starting with Template:Wikiportal:Pornography
    • Both pages were initially moved to the Wikipedia:Wikiportal/ namespace, but were subsequently moved to the Portal: namespace. Neither one has incoming links and the pagemove history is preserved in the targets.

If the above are deleted, that would leave:

  • 13 pages starting with Template:Portal:
  • 44 pages starting with Template:Wikipedia:Wikiportal
  • 349 pages starting with Template:Wikiportal

I intend to go through those 400+ as well, but will do so at a later time or incrementally in small groups of 10-20 pages. Part of it is that I want to remain thorough in checking the histories and incoming links of each page. A number of the pages require some sort of action (e.g., replacing transclusions, moving to the appropriate namespace) before they can be deleted. The other part is that I want to take a short break from checking redirect pages and return to writing/improving articles. So, thank you for all your help and for being willing to delete the 760 pages above (not counting the 83 I am adding now). Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 02:04, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Black Falcon (Talk) 16:51, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Frankenstein Poster.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Frankenstein Poster.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 10:19, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Working_Girl_Poster.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Working_Girl_Poster.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 20:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Vital_DVD_cover.jpg

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Vital_DVD_cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 19:12, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
