IN 1944 a B24 hit Mount Holyoke at it southeast flank. 10 men died. In 1946 a B19 hit Mount Tom at its northeast flank into a cliff. It killed 25. The first was taking off from Westover and the 2nd circling Westover after a long flight from Newfoundland. Both have memorial plaques but the Mt Tom one is less well know since it is slightly off the trial system.
