Naming Conventions. RFC: Removal of exceptions to "use common names" passage. edit

This is to inform you that removing exceptions to the use of "most Common Names" as the titles of Wikipedia articles from the the Talk:Naming_Conventions policy page, is the subject of a referral for Comment (RfC). This follows recent changes by some editors.

You are being informed as an editor previously involved in discussion of these issues relevant to that policy page. You are invited to comment at this location. Xandar 21:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Microsoft_Office_97_Professional_Box_Art.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Microsoft_Office_97_Professional_Box_Art.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 08:41, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

NPA edit

putting up with people being rude and abusive means putting up with their personal attacks on other Wikipedians--that's almost always what they are being abusive about . what Wikipedia needs is enforcement of rules about civility, and it appears to me from your response you think it better not to do that. i'm quite puzzled by it, as it does not seem that similar to your other responses. If you as a counselor are going by the principle of letting people vent, someone who does that here repeatedly needs to be stopped. The amount of ill will it engenders in other Wikipedians can lead to major conflicts. DGG ( talk ) 23:07, 22 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

No problem edit

Happy to help. I had much the same experience at my RFA - here I was, someone who hadn't made any enemies or been involved in any real drama, and there were people opposing for reasons I hadn't expected at all. It's stressful - but don't worry too much about it. You're doing fine, and 63-some odd editors agree. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 12:40, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Lepercon edit

I wasn't the original blocking admin--that was PMDrive1061 (talk · contribs). As I understand it, he was blocked for being a spam/advertising-only account and for using a sock to recreate a previously deleted article. The only reason it was tagged as "suspected" is because (based on the talk page discussion) the technical information for the guy who recreated the article had expired. However, as I understand it it was close enough to a WP:DUCK situation to keep him blocked. Feel free to contact PMDrive1061, FisherQueen and Hersfold for more details. Articles for deletion nomination of Dim Effect edit

I have nominated Dim Effect, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dim Effect. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Format edit

Hi could you help me fix the format on this page List of Degrassi: The Next Generation characters I dont know whats wrong thanks The Movie Master 1 (talk) 04:25, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I meant when I tried to move them into alphabetical order it would really mess it up if you look at some of the histories and I had to revert it and I could never figure out what was wrong The Movie Master 1 (talk) 00:51, 10 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removal of CSD-tag on Guvano edit

Hi there. A group of new editors and a IP editor seem to be bend on using wikipedia as a promotional platform to advertise their company. They have twice removed the CSD-tag which was placed on that article. To avoid edit warring, your admin intervention is required. Thank you. Amsaim (talk) 09:04, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

18 million... :O edit

Hey there. You might remember a talk we had a while back over at: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Missing_encyclopedic_articles#Encyclopedia_of_Life. I was browsing through EOL and I happened to come across this: [1]. Are you thinking what I am thinking? :D Oh and here is some examples of it: [2] and [3]. Now I am not suggesting a bot or anything to make all of the above (surely to lead to my execution by many angry Wikipedians) but I think it would be great as a list and something for people to work on one by one (yes I know 18 million but still... a list is better than nothing!). I know you are a bit inactive but I just thought I post this to you before I post it to the talk page of the wikiproject. Kind regards.Calaka (talk) 05:56, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I was thinking of just putting a list together under a trial run of just the letter A. I figured a lot would be just massive redirecting (which I am good at hehehehe) and then a few could actually be turned into articles and those that have the name/year of the person who described it/discovered it could also be added to the infobox/taxobox as you said (which is a good thing!). Having said that even the letter A would most likely have 1 million entries so in itself that would be a massive task. If there is not enough discussion on the talk page of the wikiproject I might try and look for someone that has had experience in making lists before (Raul perhaps?).Calaka (talk) 23:36, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think I might even consider going through the list as well in terms of making redirects. So now I just have to wait for someone to reply on the talk page who is willing to turn the letter A in a list. I can probably make the subpage but would want to see in case the person making the list wants it done in his own special way.Calaka (talk) 00:01, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tagging Gr bamboo lemur.jpg for deletion edit

Just to let you know, I have tagged File:Gr bamboo lemur.jpg for deletion due to a possible copyright violation. Please join the discussion on Wiki Commons. – VisionHolder « talk » 23:12, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much for letting me know! I do make mistakes, that is one of them. Glad you had the courtesy to let me know why an image was being deleted. ;) Also, kudos for catching that copyvio! Peace, Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 03:17, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Despite the loss of our only Greater Bamboo Lemur picture, there is good news. Tonight I secured CC-BY-SA 3.0 rights on a new, better-quality Greater Bamboo Lemur photo. Lose one, gain one.  :-) It all turned out well in the end! Best wishes, – VisionHolder « talk » 04:26, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

TMI edits edit

I've reverted your good faith additions to the TMI article. Though they concern the rumours of the fifth Monkey Island game, they pertain to a different project (that may never have existed as it is) and not only isn't relevant to TMI, but contradicts the referenced origins of the project already given. The development sources for TMI establish that TMI doesn't have its roots in any rumoured 2004 project, or in Jim Ward's E3 comments in 2006, but lies directly with Darrell Rodriguez becoming LucasArts president and then deciding to give TTG a call. If TMI was the same rumoured 2004 project, that would be a different matter, but that's not the case. Some of the stuff would be useful as it is part of the history of the series, so if you want to put this info somewhere, the best place is to put it into the series article (the article needs a development section with this sort of info), not the TMI article.

You might also want to watch it with the wording and the original research. Unreferenced and subjective stuff like "a sequel was rumored for the next few years", "However, much to the disappointment of Monkey Island fans, the fifth episode was not released in 2005. In fact, it seemed the game had been cancelled entirely." and "Responding the cries for LucasArts to release a fifth game" isn't good form. I'd also advise you don't use forum posts as references; they aren't considered reliable. (just saw your talk page post so don't worry bout that bit) -- Sabre (talk) 22:56, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Have a question about content edit

I solved what I thought was a simple math problem and tried to contribute the result to Trisecting an angle. It states in the article that it is some monumental 2000 year old problem, but it seems very simple to me, I put an image on my blog and if it is some super duper thing like solving Fermat's problem or P=NP then I will explain and get some support to make it published. I use the technique all the time , like Golden triangles 4^2+3^2=5^2 to create angles. I am good with math and science, but I have trouble communicating. I was trying to get an image inserted so I didn't have to make a link and that would be helpful also.
