Hi BoLingua,

I'm curious about the recent entry you made regarding removing the population of June suckers from Utah Lake. Your entry said the information was based upon recent media reports, so I'm just checking up on that and trying to find out if there has been some inaccurate media coverage. (Sometimes it happens.)

I work for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in their public relations section. We recently reintroduced several thousand June suckers into into Utah Lake from Red Butte Reservoir in Salt Lake County (which is undergoing dam repairs); so instead of removing them from Utah Lake (which wouldn't really be practical), we're currently putting them back in. As far as carp in the lake are concerned, as you mentioned, they're a huge problem. There are discussions about how to control the carp population in the lake, but a general poisoning of the lake would be an (impractical) extreme last resort that isn't currently on the table.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the comic. I did a little bit of research on it in my recent organizing of the webcomics articles, but about all I know about it is it's one of the more prominent of the yaoi genre. Is it normal to only expose what's said in the initial few comics so that would-be readers get a taste of it without spoilers, or has this even been discussed in the Webcomics Wikiproject? It depends on the subject, really. Some audiences are more comfortable with spoilers than others, and Wikipedians have diverse opinions as well. Deleted perhaps not, the {{importance}} tag has been around there quite a while. The motivation of the person who added it was: "The article was only kept because there was no consensus. No evidence of notability has been provided." Well, apart from the fact that I dislike the habit of some people to stick all kinds of tags on virtually every page, I think the evidence hás been provided. But, since I'm the creator of the languages in question, it's not my place to remove the tag (feel free to do it yourself if you think that's appropriate, though).

As for my comments on the story: yes, I was working on it, but then got a little distracted. Wenedyk has been going through substantial changes during the last half year, and I finally wanted to update my pages. I'll get working on it as soon as I can.

Protecting your userboxes

Because of the current campaign against userboxes, it's pretty likely that many of your boxes are going to get deleted from their template space soon (especially your Flying Spaghetti Monsterism box and your religious boxes, but in general, any boxes that could be considered to express a point of view someone might disagree with). These templates could very possibly be deleted in the next week or two. The best (and really, only) way to protect those userboxes is to perform a "substitute" command on each one of them, which will put the code directly into your page, instead of calling on the template every time your page is loaded. That way, when the template is deleted, it has no effect on the code resident on your page.

In order to do this, go into your user page, and wherever you have a template, insert "subst" inside the brackets. So,

{{template name}} becomes {{subst:template name}}

and your userboxes will all take up residence on your page. Sometimes this makes the formatting funky, and will require some tweaking in the code to restore the layout of your boxes as they were before. User:Enormousdude has taken up editing Mormon articles. His edits tend to consist of duplicating information from the controversy sections and then pasting them into other sections. Either that or other facts, duplicate mistakes, or other garbage. I have pretty much reached my limit on reverting him, and he will not respond to my requests to discuss the issue. Rouge admin

Thanks for catching it, but actually I meant "rouge" — the misspelling is a bit of a standing joke. I think it probably originated on the IRC channel, when somebody asked to be unblocked, typed too fast, and accidentally complained about being blocked by a "rouge" admin. Contacting CJ Cherryh

BoLinga-- I noted your comments about CJC possibly not responding to your emails. Are the subject headers of your emails very clearly identifiable to CJC as NOT spam? For example, use a header such as "Is A/U related to Foreigner universe?". Another option is to use the code word COMLINK in your email subject header. CJ does not open any emails that may be remotely spam -- or any with addresses she does not recognize: all are deleted immediately. She also receives dozens of emails daily -- so again, be sure your subject header is clearly not spam. You put the unsourced tag on the article, and while I'm sure if I read through it I could find something that might be unsourced, could you instead put the {{fact}} or {{verify source}} on the parts of the article that grabbed your attention? Bo-Lingua 01:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I've gone through the article and tagged unsourced statements. I'm not questioning the accuracy of these statements, it's just we need a specific reference after each of them, so that they're verifiable. A big list of links at the bottom isn't enough. Now, that's not to say that this is a bad article -- it's just that it's not yet properly sourced, and this needs to be indicated. By the way, the reason I didn't put lots of fact tags in in the first place is that essentially nothing was sourced (2 bbc links, I think).
