FRWL poster edit

Oh yeah. It's original and the "A" style for the film. What you posted was the "B" style which I don't think was used all that much. "B" is more of a composite of US panels. The "A" style was used in various other countries too. Germany, Argentina. I have scans of those too. The other notable one is the UK Quad which is probably the most recognized, but not a proper film poster. It was, however, adapted for use in other coutnries though and a variation of it was used for the video game (the one with Connery holding the gun and Bianchi and Turkey in the background) K1Bond007 00:38, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Weird case edit

Hello! Adhishb (talk · contribs) has created new pages for the Bollywood lists - incorporated list for each year. It's strange for me as if we have a list for one decade, what's the sense in separated pages for every year?

I strongly think it's unnecessary. What do you think? Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 09:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yep.. I see you had moved the page to List of films 2000-2004 and then went back on the original way. I think it's great, but I do understand this user's act. Actually we need a table of contents in the pages, to enable a faster access to the required year list. What do you think? --ShahidTalk2me 10:42, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
It would be my pleasure to do it, but I actually don't know how. --ShahidTalk2me 10:49, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm yet to complete the 2000s decade I will end up today this page and tomorrow the 90s. The 90s are very short lists. --ShahidTalk2me 10:55, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

(???) Recently I've been reading a lot about the KR from 70-74 and this seems to be when mass logging really started on a decent scale. When the KR were hiding out on the borders - where the trees used to be - they began selling or exchanging forest products for money to buy rice and arms. As many parts of the KR were not linked up at this stage and contact between the zones was infrequent, every zone had to fend for itself. In the late 70's and even more so in the 1980-90's, the scale just picked up massively with clear felling in every border province. I think this became a habit for these military commanders (many of whom are now senior CCP politicians) to cut down anything they could and ship it to either Vietnam or Thailand depending upon the political climate. 1970's - Thailand, 1980's both, 1990's Vietnam, 2000, Vietnam. Protection rackets, kidnapping and ransom, gem mining and roadblocks were all important sources of income - but the big one was always the trees. 1000 cubic metres of a hardwood like Beng has always meant very serious cash, not small potatoes at all.
As an interesting aside Prey Veng means 'long forest' in Khmer. All over the province I have run into villages with great names - like Klah Kahm (tiger bite), 'Elephant turn' etc. Speaking to people who lived there 30 years ago, there were still tigers and elephants and 'long' forest all over the place. Today Prey Veng is one of the poorest provinces in Cambodia. A bleak floodplain with virtually no vegetation. More of the remaining topsoil washes south to Vietnam each rainy season. During the 2000 floods, 97% of the land in the province was under water. Fascinating topic, I've got plenty more stuff if you need it, just let me know. Cheers, Paxse 14:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I get 1 hour on Wikipedia per day. Dont waste my time by any more comments. And dont again call any of my constructive edit as vandalism. Vikrant Phadkay 15:00, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Vikrant, it's not only Blofeld. I've commented on your talk page more than once, as have others, about your lack of edit summaries, misusing the minor edit check box, etc. Constructive edits follow some basic ground rules, like informative edit summaries. If you only spend an hour on WP, I suggest you spend it thoughtfully, and not make edits impulsively; double-check your facts (with Bond, watch the movie, take notes); cite your sources; be prepared to justify your edits on the article Talk Page. If your editing actions ARE seen as disruptive, they will likely be treated as vandalism, that's just the way the Wikipedia spins. I've been there, done that, too. My sincere suggestion; take a moment to sit down, breathe in slowly, and think about what other editors are telling you. We're trying to work together, not engage in hand-to-hand editing combat. ;)
Blofeld, let's remember that when there is a lot of collaborative editing on an article, as I would expect on a "fortnight of edit" imperative, it's easy to start qualifying and identifying the edits with the person, even judging the edit based on the person who did it. Let's contend with and collaborate on the edits themselves, and try to keep personalities out of it. (E.g. "attack the ideas, not the person.") I'm as guilty of this as anyone, admittedly, so I'm not trying to be a pedant. David Spalding (  ) 13:40, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for setting up this page.

I've added a few comments.

Tovojolo 14:18, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I found a DVD screenshot of David Niven as Bond.

David Niven is, in fact, the archetypal Bond since he was Ian Fleming's choice.

I also found a way of keeping the Deborah Kerr photo by deleting an unneeded title image.

I have to admit I am a Deborah Kerr fan though.

I originally set up the character section and did the cast summary then SpecialWindler in the "To Do" list on the talk page said that the Minor and Uncredited characters had to go so I deleted them.

Now that you've set up the list of characters page, I've added comments on the Minor and Uncredited characters there.

Mallika Sherawat edit

Mainly it's cool because I get to go look at Mallika Sherawat. Hold on, I'm going to go look again. Okay. I agree that the sortable function may come in handy for folks who want to view the information in different orders, and it is more presentable than the straight lists. What might be useful is to incorporate the format into a FA- or GA-class actor article and use it an example to follow. — WiseKwai 18:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

HeHe yep. She is super sexy and sensual and is the Sex Symbol of India today. You know, she is also very smart. She has a lot of guts to express her opinions in public. But I personally feel she is a good actress too. You can watch Murder. It's a wonderful thriller. It's a quite racy film by Indian standarts.
Btw, look how her article looked yesterday [11]. I was busy, so I stayed out, and was shocked to see this horrible sight. Now it looks good. I also created an article of her debut film Khwahish. My best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 19:02, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

A complaint edit

I see that you have pasted my GA review notice into User talk:Tovojolo. I also see that you have done so with my signature and everything intact, making it seem like I was the one leaving that notice on that talk page. Please don't EVER do that again! In this case, it was completely harmless, and I'm assuming you did this in good faith, but leaving notices in my name on other people's talk pages is potentially a very serious issue. So, while I'm intending this as a friendly reminder never to do so again, I'm also intending this to sound every bit as blunt as it does. Thanks for explaining your tone - indeed, sound doesn't carry well through the vacuum of the Internet. I definitely agree with the odd spottiness of coverage for underserved topic areas, like the entire continent of Africa. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 13:06, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Though many people scoff at this, it is appropriate to include in Wikipedia almanaic content up to a point (that point has not been set by consensus yet), so including information consistent with a gazetteer would not be inappropriate in my opinion, as long as it is appropriately sourced. However, discussions such as this one should be considered when going down this road. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 13:18, 4 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't mean write the stuff for babies, I mean to write it clearly and understandable for people that are'nt as big on the subject. Most people get on here to learn about something that they don't understand completely, so they come here and they would see nothing but 24 letter words that they can't even say and a long list of the genus, speices, family, and whatever else that is on there. I'm just trying to say that we're here to help people, not completely baffle them and confuse them. So I try to write my articles so that a seventh or eighth grader could read, but just as easy the information is high class and even experts on the subject could come on and agree and could say the same as we did to everything we wrote.Mattkenn3 22:51, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I am having a pretty good holiday. From May to August I'm on non-stop trip mode. I go to so many places I barely have time to do anything between trips I win, trips for fun, and trips to try to win more trips. Summer is pretty crazy for me. I normally cool of in mid August and everything is back to normal. When all this trip after trip stuff ends at about August 10th, I think, I'll get something done around here. I think I'll be a big help in the wildlife of Africa series. I'll round up a few friends and get to work. I'll do some work today, when I get the chance. Citations in Bond film articles edit

I added some more production info this weekend from Inside FRWL, and neatened up the MGM 2000 documentary citations. ... Someone commented on Talk:From Russia with Love (film) that citations need to be inline after each sentence.... Since you work on more Bond articles than I do, can you tell me/us which is more common: citation after each statement, or at end of paragraph *if* the entire para is from that source? "(image way too big)" edit

As per the documented MOS guidelines (my edit summaries were (rv forced image sizes IAW WP:IMAGES#Forced image size) ), putting a forced size in a thumbnail is discouraged. If you don't like your thumbnail size when logged in, change your preferences. The reason for this is that users are logging in (or not logging in, in which the default is 180px wide) from all screen resolutions, and all browsers, etc. What "looks good" for you won't on someone else's system. Another ... for me ... is that the newbies start thinking you're supposed to scale an image manually in articles, and start 'typsetting' the page according to their little Gateway 1996 box with 14" screen at 1024x768. ;) If you don't think an image is the best we can offer (that is, it's an extreme aspect ratio), let's cook up another. Frankly, I'm not fond of that Connery pic in Goldfinger (film) anyway, the color balance SUCKS. ;) David Spalding (  ) 16:22, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Greetings edit

Dear Ernst: Please accept my apologies for taking so long to reply to your notes. Unfortunately, one of our dearest long-term friends has been very sick with pancreatic cancer and took a sudden turn for the worse, so Jo and I flew to Sydney a week ago last Monday - just in time to visit with her briefly before she mercifully died while we were spelling her family at her hospital bedside early on Wednesday morning. We have been almost totally involved helping her mother, her husband and three children cope and making funeral arrangements, etc., etc. - as well as trying to comfort the family of another old mutual friend (a brilliant and wonderful Afghan man who traveled with us all in India in 1979) who is very sick with lymphoma. Trish (our friend who died), her husband, Colin, and my wife Jo had a huge prolonged battle with the Australian embassy in Delhi in 1979 and 1980, after the Russian invasion of Afghanistan - including exposing their outrageous racism and arrogance on the national news and other programs here in Australia - until the Government finally got rid of the First Secretary in Delhi - and they managed to get permission for him to join his sister who was working at the time for the U.N. in Sydney. So, naturally, we have all remained very close friends ever since. Abdul managed to come to the wake against the advice of his doctor and sister but was very weak and in great pain and had to leave early. I am fearing that I may have to return to Sydney again soon. It is all too much for mere mortals such as me.

We just returned back in Cooktown the evening before last and I am now trying to catch up with the backlog of email and put the finishing touches on the final Appendix for my book (but cannot seem to focus yet). After that I hope to get back to some serious work on the Wikipedia.

All best wishes, John Hill 06:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, "Ernst"! I've removed the logo from the RHS page, because is rather misleading, as it incorporates background colours which seem to have been chosen by and/or designed for the website you found the image on, rather than the RHS website itself, which might have been a safer source. Oh wow thanks thats amazing!!!!! Mr Biggleworth loves it thanks!!!! Hey the List of American films is off and running]] particularly 1920 onwards -this will take some time to complete but will be good when complete. Of late I've been doing much work on Cambodia setting up all the districts (I have a Deforestation in Cambodia article on its way in a few days). Today I've done a fair amount of work on Taiwan! I've uploade dmany images to the commons searching all over flickr for the appropriate licensed ones!!! I'm all over the encyclopedia!!!! I've found a flickr user who has created about 2,500 high quality images and permits them for use!!! Its a shame most flickr uses can't do this!!! Gradually the world film lists are also developing - see List of Bollywood films: 2000s for instance although in many places I haven't got around to development. Thanks again for your great support - Hope you are well. Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 15:46, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Admin has its benefits but I must admit I also aren't a fan of "Wiki administration" so I'd have to decline ! Whilst I take my encyclopedic work and the encyclopedia very seriously I often feel that many other users take things far too seriously to the point that it affects peoples pleasure of using wikipedia . For instance User:Polbot has been doing some terrific work on wikipedia -this is why the article count is rocketing since the 1.9 mill mark. Yet all you see on his talk page are negative after negative comments criticising his work -if this were me I'd have given up long ago. He doesn't have to bother with all those edits -this is why I congratulated him. I wish many other users of the "aristocracy" were like you - as an excellent wikipedian and administrator you are able to always encourage contributors and show a friendly attitude which many I've come across don't. Polbot hasn't been mistreated by an admin I don't think but whilst doing things correctly is important and following guidelines he has been treated a little rudely I think considering he has added some 40,000 new articles on species ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Ah thats good I was afraid you'd think I was overreacting. You'd be amazed at the bullying I've seen going on on wikipedia -nearly every day in fact -it makes me wonder what does go on on the millions of other pages I don't see. Occasionally I find people very offensive indeed -luckily not directed at me but on user talk pages I have come across. I remember somebody telling my good friend User:John Hill, an experienced editor in relation to his work on the Jat people that he is a useless editor and should leave wikipedia for six months to get his facts straight!!! (He is in fact an expert on Central Asian history and a photographer of the region and has had books published) Many people appear to lose sight of what this is about!!! - We need as many people to feel good about wikipedia and build this as possible!! Luckily though many users are not like this and ar enot only superb contributors but are very pleasant to discuss things with. I'll be on my way -I thrive encouragement and I always try to treat others as they treat me. Thankyou -I hope you don't mind me using your cat on my page as a pal for Bigglesworth!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 16:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

image sizes edit

I prefer not to specify fixed image sizes, since the Wikimedia software allows logged in users to set a size in their preferences, and detects the resolution of anonymous users. Is there a reason you have been using fixed image sizes? --Ideogram 17:32, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replied on my talk page. --Ideogram 17:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Ernst. Whether or not image sizes should be specified is not a settled issue. See for instance this ongoing discussion about specifying the size in "Wikipedia's best" (= in featured articles). Bishonen | talk 18:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC).Reply

Surely this is not the most important thing. Encyclopedic content and missing articles are my priority. I've worked hard to find images to add to articles. Px size is yes a matter of preference but suely an image and article whatever size is better than nothing! Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 18:13, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Balaxanida Neft Fontani edit

Thank you, this one looks great. If you have more information on other related movies, please, share it. I will lookup the info on remaining films and create appropriate Wiki pages. Thanks. Atabek 21:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would be happy to translate them as well. Although I am not sure what's the best way to proceed. I can certainly transliterate them into English as well. Atabek 21:58, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think translation would work better. Is it allowed to translate the titles of films and use those as article titles? Atabek 22:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, I transliterated to Balakhanyda Neft Fontany, and added English title in the text (The Oil Fountain in Balakhany), although I believe using English would be just better for English wiki, since original title can be still used in Azeri wiki. Atabek 22:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it just makes more sense and makes it easier to search. We can have Azeri title of it in the text. Atabek 22:16, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's fine, we should add extra column or just leave it in brackets? Atabek 09:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Do you still want English transliterated Azeri titles or just leave the alphabet as is? Atabek 10:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I noticed that infobox is missing some information. Like "operator" in Azeri is equivalent of "cameraman" in English, and we need to have a section for "sound" as most of the early movies were silent. Atabek 10:10, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
And Aghdamski article looks good. Thanks for doing this. I will work on those some more in coming days. Atabek 10:13, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I can help you with Bollywood movies too :). Saw some of those as a child. Atabek 10:16, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Btw, there were three versions of "The Cloth Peddler" made in 20th century, two of them were the remakes made during the Soviet years, although the second one (or the first made during Soviets) was the most famous due to cast by renouned Azerbaijani singer Rashid Behbudov. Atabek 10:18, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I made some updates to Cloth Peddler (1917 film), Aghdamski actually played the female role of Guelchoehra, while Sarabski played Asgar. Atabek 10:41, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hajibeyov was a classical composer and wrote operas, most notorious among them were "Layli and Majnun" and "Koroghlu". He also authored many other music pieces, including the anthems of independent Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan SSR. His music was certainly used in the movie "Koroghlu" by Azerbaijan-film, and probably in other films. As he died in 1940s, he would not be a film composer in modern sense though.Atabek 12:12, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Arşın Mal Alan.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Arşın Mal Alan.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Erm... edit

I'm not entirely sure why you've just posted on my talk page, since the changes made had little to do with me. I don't agree with using different colours for living and deceased actors, however, and would be grateful if you could direct me to a discussion where such a concensus was formed. :)

You should also bear in mind that the Actors Project doesn't own the infobox, and any changes to it should really be discussed there. I would certainly welcome your opinions though, some of the debates we've been having recently could use a fresh perspective. Regards. PC78 11:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

My point was that it doesn't do any good to have two sererate discussions going on - the infobox will be better served if we're all having the same debate at the same venue. And I certainly don't agree that people won't be listening to you over there! :)
I found the discussion regarding the colours, BTW. If anything it seems like opinion was divided. If you want to change the colours that are currently being used it would be best to put forward a proposal. PC78 12:02, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've already added a number of films to that list, and of course I shall continue to do so in the future. Regarding the "Cinema of..." templates, I'm not convinced that they are really necessary in film or actor articles (I believe that was the decision made over the "Cinema of the US" template); just my two cents. ;) PC78 12:26, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

re:Azeri film edit

Yes, I see, you have done a lot about Azeri films, my great thanks to you, and also you have created an article about Ahmed Aghdamski. I have a very good book about azeri culutre where there is a section about him, and I want to expand that article, because he is one of those unique people in the history of culture, because despite being a heterosexual man, he played dozens of women roles in early azeri opera, and only once he played role of man, and that was a sensation in whole Baku. but he was not aone, as starting from 1870s in Azei theatre, and starting from 1908 in Azeri opera until 1920s, all women roles were played by heterosexual men, and occasionally by georgian, russian or armenian women, but as those women were not speaking good azeri, and could't sing mugham, both the authors and directors, and the spectators prefered to have men in the role of women. Hello again Sir Blofeld. I like the current color but I had a look at what you proposed and liked that as well, so I would be neutral to such a change. I must admit though that I am more of a technical person and not that good with colors, or what goes with what, etc. It would be good if you start a discussion on the talk page about this and we can see what others think. But I think the silver color for the deceased makes sense as it is a mixture of black and white, which sort of gives a feeling of the past. -- Kudret abi 18:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the invitation to the group, it looks great, I just signed my name. Also I think the infobox page would be the best place to initiate the discussion, but perhaps we could also provide a link to it from the project discussion page so that more people would join in. Best, -- Kudret abi 19:12, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome, the group and the lists look very good and extensive. Sure it is ambitious, but how else are we supposed to achieve our best :) Take care, -- Kudret abi 19:40, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Catching up edit

Hi Ernst. My apologies for not responding to your last two notes more quickly. I too have become a bit wikibonked and slowed my editing down towards the end of July. Then celebrating my birthday with friends here at the beginning of August has also kept me from doing much editing. I haven't forgotten the film list and hope to get back at it sometime next week. I took at look at Once Upon a Time in the West this morning and, as always, was impressed with your improvements. I can't remember where I heard it but I love Woody Strode's remark where he said that Leone had given him more closeups at the beginning of this film than he had had in all the other films he had been in combined. Cheers and I am going to borrow your wikibonked message for my talk page until I get over my wikiwall. MarnetteD | Talk 19:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

American films of 2007 edit

I will work on this one until it is done getting all of the unsorted films into the table. It will probably be the only I complete for a while, as I prefer to work on individual films and actors, and the occasional random article. Right now, I have Hot Fuzz at GAC, and if you haven't seen the film yet, you should. Keep up the good work, our project is continuing to improve. --Nehrams2020 00:43, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I like the layout of American films of 1993 more, as it is easier to edit. Considering British films, they are definitely becoming more popular I think in the U.S. Hot Fuzz had the highest per theater average of any film in the top ten when it debuted here, but it didn't make too much total gross. I think that it did much better due to people enjoying Shaun of the Dead; it's consider a cult film here. For me, I've only seen a few British films, these two being my favorite so far. For television, I've always enjoyed the Mr. Bean series and hope to see the second film when it arrives. I've also recently started watching Extras as Ricky Gervais is quite entertaining. I do prefer the U.S. version of The Office with Steve Carell more though. --Nehrams2020 00:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Janne_Kuusi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. Good idea adding her films to the Requests list. However, you might want to actually clean it up to conform to the WP:UE naming standards - IMDb data dumps will only retain the vernacular titles, which means that we may already have articles on some of these films under their English titles. Notable heist films edit

Please see talk:Heist film#List of films. The guidelines are quite specific about the usefulness of lists. If we are avoiding loose lists like this, then we are avoiding watering down articles with embedded lists even more so. If you want to add value without proliferating lists, then annotate entries in the list of crime films with the genre "heist film". Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information: this list should go. Michael Z. 2007-08-15 19:19 Z

Bond film layouts edit

I think it looks better. You once complained of the article looking bare: well placing two images in the centre hides that. Alientraveller 19:21, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I looked at Octopussy and the reaction section is way too bare. You need to specify who and when people make these comments. I like the Blofeld rework, naturally it'll grow into an excellent analysis of iconic villainy. Have a look at WP:WAF: lose the biography header for one, move the images into the boxes for film portrayals and fill out notes with behind-the-scenes information for the main actors. "Parodies" could be part of a larger "Impact" section. Alientraveller 19:28, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:The searchers Ford Trailer screenshot (8-crop).jpg is done. That's my favorite of The Searchers set. Great action shot. Do you want me to paint you a picture!? Do ya!? I'm not going to touch the NAIA shot. I don't have any qualms cropping black bars off a public domain film trailer from 1956, but touching up a photo by another living breathing Wikipedian is something else entirely. I'm sensitive about it. Knowing Metro Manila, it's probably an accurate representation, anyway. — WiseKwai 15:43, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Duke's page is improving, with a better mix of photos. So many facets to his career - the war movies, the dramas (Pittsburgh comes to mind). For me, nothing beats the introductory shot of him in Stagecoach, where the camera zooms in on him like a bullet shot. I guess that's a dolly shot, similar to Spielberg's zooming in on Roy Scheider in Jaws, when Scheider's character first sees the shark in action. Dramatic as hell. — WiseKwai 15:58, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Scorsese is one of my favorites. He should have won an Oscar for Goodfellas. The Departed lacked spirit. I like Robert Rodriguez; been watching his movies lately - From Dusk Till Dawn, Planet Terror, El Mariachi. The Coen Brothers. Wisit Sasanatieng and Pen-Ek Ratanaruang from Thailand. John Ford. Just watched his Sergeant Rutledge, which is brilliant - a courtroom drama set in in Monument Valley. — WiseKwai 16:21, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ALaHabana.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ALaHabana.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Hi,

If you look at the history page, you'see that my edit on 4 August 2007, removed the photo violations on the page, ie, the Fair Use photos that violated WP:FU and WP:NFCC but I left the Free photo intact in the Infobox.

Howver, it seems that on 6 August 2007, unregistered IP user, 69.156.4.171, removed the Free photo from the Infobox.

It seems it was an act of vandalism by an IP user.

Unspecified source for Image:TitaDuran.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:TitaDuran.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:57, 19 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. bluemask (talk) 11:57, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cinema of the Philippines edit

I'm in love with Tita Duran, and her Siamese cat. The cinema of the Philippines is a woefully uncovered gem that only Quentin Tarantino seems to appreciate. I know of no websites that cover the Philippines cinema. Compared to Thailand, the industry has been bigger for various reasons, mainly that it has a bigger population and a more voracious appetite for consumable culture. It shared English-language capabilities with Singapore, and back in the late 60s and early 70s there was a flood of Malaysia-Singapore-Philippines co-productions (They Call Her Cleopatra Wong was one). In recent years, the cinema has struggled against the onslaught of foreign films and TV, and little attention is paid to it. I'm sure if you keep digging around, you're likely to come across an Philippines equivalent of SiamZone. Right now I'm just not sure. — WiseKwai 15:31, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Great work. There's still no access to YouTube in Thailand. — WiseKwai 04:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Classification of Rivers edit

Dear Sir. Thank you for your message and for understanding my frustration with bots. Now getting to more serious matters, I am confused about how to handle the problem of the stubs for Romanian rivers. I had a discussion with an administrator (I don't remember his name, but recall he was from New Zealand; I could however find out who he is, if you are interested) who supported the idea of grouping the stubs by administrative units. He definitely was against stubs as being classified as Rivers of XXX county and prefered just stubs as XXX County. Consequently al stubs for villages, mountains, rivers, lakes and other geographic entities would have been included in the same category. He agreed that bigger rivers covering more than one county could be classified as rivers of XXX province or country.

I do not intend to make rules and even if I don't consider this the best solution, I could have adopted it. But... There was another condition, that the number of stub articles in any stub category should not exceed approx. 800. This creates a contradiction, because the number of cities and villages, mountains, rivers etc in most counties will easily exced this number. Smaller administrative units in Romania are communes, but grouping rivers by communes does not make much sense (to me anyway) and, besides, is very cumbersome.

As the rivers are part of the Wikiproject: Rivers, I posted a question on the project discussion page, to seek the advice of my fellow river-men. However, they appear not to be very active and I have not received even a single suggestion.

So at present I am stuck. I cannot find any way in which the stubs for rivers should be classified if the classification should be based on administrative units (countries, counties or other) - not on geographic features (such as mountains, rivers, river basins of other etc) - and the number of articles in each category must be under 800.

All river articles include a category of river subbasin. Officially there are 14 river basins in Romania according to the official classification of rivers by the Romanian Water Authority. I could use those, but then I do not comply with the condition imposed by en:Wiki administrators and, in any care for most subbasins the number would exceed the fatal number of 800.

Can you find any solution which would comply to all the conditions imposed by wikipedia. Other than the one not to classify river stubs at all, which I adopted? Afil 19:10, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

That is exactly what I did. All rivers have three categories indicating the country, the subbasin and the county. As far as pictures are concerned, I agree, but I am still in America, Romania is still in Europe and for the time being pictures are just wishful thinking. But thanks again for keeping in touch. It is a comfortable feeling to know that you are not alone.Afil 19:36, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's going to need a lot more work to be in your own words. You just changed a few words here and there. Have you seen the film? If not, you're going to have trouble summarizing the plot in your own words based on just one summary. Best to read a few, then put them aside and write from scratch. As for notability, none was asserted. The fact that it's a film is not sufficient. Has a book been written about it? That would help. Telescope edit

I am not sure why you dropped the entire article History of telescopes into the article Telescope. It appears there was no merger discussion on-going and they seem to be two very separate articles. I have reverted your edit, but if there is a rhyme or reason to this please discuss it on the relative talk pages and/or post the appropriate tag to open discussion on this type of edit. Thank you. Halfblue 17:29, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you see a need for such a "merger" there are ways to go about it. Unilaterally making two redundant articles is not one of the best ways. Also the article is "Telescope", describing all types--optical---radio--infrared, ect, whereas the article you merged---> "History of telescopes" is mainly a history of Optical telescopes and as you noted, very poor encyclopedically. So its a merge into the wrong article right off the start, unless your are proposing also merging Telescope and Optical telescope (BTW there is discussion about this at Talk:Telescope#"Telescope" and "Optical telescope"). Yes-- do open a discussion and maybe even a project page for what you want to do but keep in mind there may be a reason to have all these articles separate. The last major thing to happen at "Telescope" was when I moved most of its content to "Optical telescope" because ... errr... it was all content that described an optical telescope. Encyclopedic articles are not necessarily “histories”… they describe things. Telescope is currently a large summery/disabigulation page for types of devices used as "telescopes". This may or may not be a good way to organize it. Do add input. Halfblue 18:13, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Heikki_Nousiainen.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Heikki_Nousiainen.jpg.

Fair use rationale for Image:MaximillianLargo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MaximillianLargo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

The difference between "town" and "municipality" is the difference between "Stadt" and "Gemeinde". See de:Stadtrecht for instance. A town has (or had in the Middle Ages) more privileges than a municipality. Last year I created articles for all (missing) towns, so all places we add now are "plain" municipalities. But, the towns and municipalities aren't always in the right categories now. Once all the articles have the new infobox, they're automatically categorized correctly, it's a field in the infobox. Don't worry too much about it. Markussep Talk 15:04, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leonardo edit

I changed your edit because I thought it was overdoing it a bbit. The first paragraph says what he did, the second is about who and where, and the third paragraph sings his praises very loudly in words like "Archetype Renaissance Man", "greatest painter" and "possibly most intelligent who ever lived". All these things mean more than saying he was savant. That term is most often applied to people who are exceptional in only a single field, typically maths or music.

I included the other term you added, universal genius, in the lower paragraph because I think that it is a good way to explain the term "Renaissance Man" for those who may not realise that is the meaning of the term, not just simply a man who lived in the Renaissance period. A lot of school kids use that page, so it does need to be clear. Thanks Blofeld! --Amandajm 12:53, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is not an easy task to follow the films and insert them into the tables. I really hope you don't get angry with me, Ernst. Best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 14:58, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I also promise you to format gradually the tamil lists whenever I have time for it. I'm really sorry for this occasion. As for the Bollywood lists, I think I'm quite knowledgeable in this case. So I'll turn to it later. I really hope you're OK with what I said to you (because I'm not) and not angry or offended. It is really important to me as well. My best regards, --ShahidTalk2me 15:09, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Exactly! --ShahidTalk2me 15:14, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

OOOhh of course. Zeenat Aman - I've grown up watching her. A truly beautiful woman. She even won the Miss Asia Pacific. She has an exotic beauty. Of course I've seen Satyam Shivam Sundaram. It is an all time Raj Kapoor classic. A story of an unlucky girl. Her mother dies on her birthday, and her beautiful face is burned, scarred and destroyed when she is a child. But the end is good though. Shashi Kapoor finds out that beauty is not everything. Oh a truly classic film. What did you think about it? --ShahidTalk2me 16:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes exactly I will do that. I've already created the Rekha filmography for my all time favorite actress. I will add the tables for Raj Kapoor and Zeenat Aman, and other actors and actresses in the next few days. BTW, SSS (the film) was shown at Zee TV a month or two moths ago. It was a special week for the Raj Kapoor films. --ShahidTalk2me 16:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes it sounds great. It will be a hard and long work though and we had to gather more editors for this mission, especially when there are so many award ceremonies in India. National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Bollywood Movie Awards, GIFA Awards, IIFA Awards, BFJA Awards, Stardust Awards etc... And every actor receives nominations at every award ceremony. --ShahidTalk2me 16:27, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes you're right!! There is much of work to do here. Most of the users who were working on Bollywood related articles have gradually left Wikipedia. And now, there is a big miss, I hope to do a lot of work these days, because from the mid September I will also be busy in real life and couldn't be as much help to Wikipedia. --ShahidTalk2me 16:47, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

User:Zora, User:Plumcouch, User:Ekantik were some of the most active editors on Wiki on Bollywood related articles and they are no longer here, and users like User:Hariharan91 don't work much on Bollywood related articles anymore. Doesn't matter - User:Pa7 is still here, and you're helping us and we'll survive:) --ShahidTalk2me 17:06, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Of course. She is so so beautiful. I saw the film at the age of seven ot eight. But she hasn't acted in many films - only 20-30 and then she left the film industry (just like the users left Wikipedia LOL). --ShahidTalk2me 17:12, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
LOL it was such a funny message. You're absolutely right. Our Bollywood actors are very handsome. Akshay Kumar I think is very handsome. He was always my favorite and I always tried to imitate him. Today Hrithik Roshan is considered to be the hunk of India. Yeh Shilpa is beautiful. Since childhood I've been watching her. She wasn't as popular as Kajol or Madhuri Dixit. She was always so underrated, but I liked her though. She has the best body of India, just perfect (even though she slimmed down nowadays). I was shocked with her brilliant performance in Phir Milenge. I couldn't have imagined her in such kinds of roles. A must see! --ShahidTalk2me 17:36, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes I just used the opportunity to say that I'm a fan of Akshay Kumar hehe. I think the Indian actresses are beautiful. India is the major winner at the Miss World. There are so much beautiful actresses: Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chaudhary, Aishwarya Rai of course...
BTW, I like the Mr Bean series so much. I can watch it thousand times, but still won't get bored. Just like watching Tom & Jerry... --ShahidTalk2me 17:53, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
What? I'm shocked! He was so young... It's a pitty! --ShahidTalk2me 17:58, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

TfD nomination of Template:Israelifilmlist edit

Template:Israelifilmlist has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. — -ReuvenkT C 17:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Got your reply. My only question is this: what other pages, aside from List of Israeli films, would this template be used on. It just seems a little useless to me (although it did look good!). -ReuvenkT C 17:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll wait up for now. I'm just not sure that there'll be enough films, but I'll take your word. One thought that I had was to use a sortable chart. It would allow users to sort films by any of the categories, not just years. It would, however, mean that all of the films would have to be in one chart, on the same page. -ReuvenkT C 18:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sounds great. Behatzlacha! ("Good luck" in Hebrew) -ReuvenkT C 18:11, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

One comment: you might want to consider naming the articles something like 1990s in Israeli films (instead of List of Israeli films: 1990s), since that matches with the already established lists, e.g. 1990s in film. This format is more intuitive, in my opinion, for an encyclopedia article. I understand these were based off of the analogous Japanese articles, however. Orphaned non-free image (Image:StefanGierasch.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:StefanGierasch.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. This image was orphaned because it was used to depict a living person, in violation of WP:NFCC #1. --Durin 14:48, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use images of living people edit

Per WP:NFCC item #1 and Foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy, the use of copyrighted, fair use images to depict living people is not permitted. You re-added Image:StefanGierasch.jpg to Stefan Gierasch in violation of this policy. I've re-removed the image, and re-tagged the image as orphaned. Please do not re-insert the image again in violation of this policy. If you have questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks, --Durin 15:06, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Uttaraposter.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Uttaraposter.jpg.

Thank you. NAHID 18:11, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikify edit

Thanks for the notice to wikify, and I'm glad you "helped" me with it on Lara Vapnyar, but try to give editors who are adding articles to wikipedia some time to get the article in order. I mean, longer than six minutes. That would be very helpful -- some editors tweak as they go. Larry Dunn 21:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

As to why I don't use the sandbox, not all editors edit the same way. And it may be in front of millions of people, but those people survived without any article at all until a half hour ago, so a few minutes without wikification will probably not do them in. Larry Dunn 21:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
My suggestion is that if you see an article is brand new, don't immediately slap tags all over it. Give it a minute. It's not a now or never thing. There are enough people looking over the articles that it will get sorted out. Larry Dunn 22:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. towns vs municipalities edit

Looking at Baar, Rhineland-Palatinate I noticed the source of your confusion. By adding Art=town to the template you generated the extra Town category. If Art is missing in de-wiki it means that it is a basic municipality. No further action needed as the template will recognize that on its own. P.S also no need to place a municipality in ... Category, as the template does that as well. Agathoclea 18:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading  . However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changzhu Temple edit

I'm sorry. Only after creating an article on Changzhug, I noticed that you had written something already, but under its Chinese name (Changzhu Temple). I had searched for various Tibetan spellings, but not for the Chinese name in Pinyin. I've also noticed that the earlier article is a bit problematic: no sources, a link to an empty page on Wikitravel, unusual spelling (“Yumbi Lakang” for Yumbulakang; see de:Yumbulagang for Tibetan and Chinese names). I suggest that any material from Changzhu Temple that could be useful and can be attributed to proper sources should be merged into the new article. Or is the new article good enough and the text of the old one can just be replaced with a redirect? —Babelfisch 09:49, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Echinghen edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Echinghen, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Echinghen seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Echinghen, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. why create empty articles? edit

If you're going to add details establishing notability, why not do it when you create the article? For example, how many people live there? Articles that don't establish notability can and should be nominated for deletion. If you're not going to add details, don't create the article: it's useless. Of course it's not. So nominate it for deletion. Pointing it out on my talk page isn't a very efficient way to make wiki better. Please stop editing my talk page unless you have something relevant to discuss. That's great that the James Bond film articles are coming along so well. I'm currently watching the FAC for Casino Royale, and if it doesn't pass this time, it seems it never will. Right now on the WP:Films talk page, we're discussing having a roll call for members to check in so we can determine who is still active in the project. While we are at it, we'll be asking for their opinions on potential task forces they have any interests in and if they desire to have coordinators within the project. If you'd like, feel free to join the discussion if you have any ideas for other task forces that could be as successful as the WP:Bond, or Film bios. --Nehrams2020 18:31, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Casino Royale edit

Hi, I reduced Chapter 2 and Chapter 6 as much as I could in order to keep them coherent.

Tovojolo 18:50, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome.

Because of the epic structure of the film, the plot has to be told in "Chapters". Casino Royale is the only Bond film that is an epic and we would need to emphasise that fact in the GA nomination so that the assessors understand that the 700 word limit cannot be kept in such a cinematographically complex film as Casino Royale.
