Lacking references is not PRODable. PROD is to be used in obvious cases where the article has no merit whatsoever. An article about your next door neighbour's teenage garage band would be an example. If there is any doubt in your mind that the article is obviously cruft, then PROD is likely not what you're looking for.

In cases where references are lacking, the proper response would be to first see if you can fix the problem. In this case, a quick good search turned up lots of real references, and that would be a good way to improve the situation. Failing that, a REFNEEDED is the way to go.
