Ways to improve Fred Berman

edit

Hello, Bkerns88,

Thank you for creating Fred Berman.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

It seems that 85% of this article has been copied from another website that has a copyright notice date of 2021.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Netherzone}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Hello Netherzone,
In fact the referenced wikiake page copied MY material that I wrote while drafting this page. The link provided is not credible and shows a picture and biography of a different Fred Berman all together. My writing is original and can be independently verified through the sources I referenced in my research. Please do not let hundreds of hours of work go to waste because of a rogue internet source that stole my material and published it while my page was waiting to be published.
Thanks,

Also, I would encourage the flagger of my article that specified the copyright of the other article as 2021 to investigate when the page was updated with my original material. Because it was copied practically word for word on an older draft I had. They used a shell page with a different audio narrator Fred Berman, and posted my biographical content about the artist Fred Berman. This is very disappointing. @Bkerns88, firstly, hello! and welcome to Wikipedia. Secondly, I'm here to help you with your article. Wikipedia thanks you for your contributions to the encyclopedia, and hope your time here is enjoyable. I am a volunteer editor who works on New Page Patrol here where we review new additions to Wikipedia. I enjoyed reading about Fred Berman and his work. However, when reviewing the article I ran the article on Fred Berman through Earwig's CopyVio Detector, it showed that it was 85% copied from another website. Running new articles thru a copyvio detector is standard practice in the review process. This is not a cause for alarm, as false positives sometimes occur.
What I'm not understanding from your notes above is that you state that the content you wrote as a draft was copied by the other website while you were drafting the article. What doesn't make sense is that you joined WP in Feb. 2023, but the other website has a 2021 copyright on the material. But strange things happen sometimes, so please do not be discouraged! I think we may need someone experienced in copyright issues to take a look, and so am pinging @Diannaa who is the most knowledgeable administrator I know of here in relation to copyright matters. I'm certain she will be able to investigate and clear things up.
The other thing I want to mention is that you refer to what you wrote in the article as "MY material", "my article" and "my biographical content". Unfortunately that is not how things work on Wikipedia, this is because it's a collaborative open-source encyclopedia which is really different than a publishing house like Knopf or Oxford. So no one, no matter what, has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular article (or any part of it). Anyone can edit the content. For more information see: WP:OWN. I realize that you may not have known that as a new editor. There is a lot to learn about Wikipedia. Please be patient re: the copyvio tag as we are all volunteers. Thank you! @Netherzone:
Hello and thank you! I only meant to state that the material that I wrote was copied from someone on the other site. I understand the page states there is a 2021 copyright. I assume that means the website itself was created in 2021 and not the article. If you look carefully at the article on the wikiake page, it is clear that the content of the wikipedia Fred Berman artist page was copied into the Fred Berman actor(?) narrator(?) wikiake page. I am happy to work with any interested party to resolve the matter. Apologies for the original hasty response, it was just upsetting to see that it was flagged for copyright violation and that someone had copied the content that was written about Fred Berman (artist) when it was in a draft status into another page for a different person with the same name.

Hello, I have removed the tag, as the page is a copy of your article as it appeared sometime in March. Hovering over the links on their page you will find they point at various Wikipedia pages. — Diannaa (talk) 03:02, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Diannaa, mystery solved! Netherzone (talk) 03:05, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
