RE: Elmer Kelton

Are you sure that Kelton was born in Crane? I read that he was born at a place called Horse Camp on the Five Wells Ranch east of Andrews, Texas, then moved to the area around Crane at age three.

Unfortunately, saying that you are a "Native" is not the same thing as "place of birth".

PS: College degrees are proper nouns.

PPS: Isn't his wife's name Anni Lipp with an "i" at the end, not an "a"? > Best O Fortuna (talk) 21:38, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

My apologies

Sorry about the confusion with the yearbook photos; it should be all fixed now. I hadn't really been familiar with that aspect of copyright law. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 21:05, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Note: I had at least a half dozen of those yearbook photos; I will try to re-submit them in the next week. There are so many exclusions on photos that it is a wonder we have as many as we do. Even when people send a photo for use, it is often struck down on grounds that the photographer has not approved even though the individual involved would have paid the photographer for the photo.Billy Hathorn (talk) 21:12, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
You'll probably want to include the detailed information about each photo right when you upload them (explaining that the yearbooks didn't state any copyright, etc.). If you can name the images that were deleted, I could just restore them and then you wouldn't need to go through the whole upload process again. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 21:19, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Restore Fred Haynes photo please if you can find it. ThanksBilly Hathorn (talk) 21:38, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Done File:Haynes 11-06 20fred.jpg. I'll let you update the description like you did with the other ones... also the license, if it came from a yearbook like the others. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 22:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Could you update this file with the additional information on the source? Right now it is certainly deletable because it actually doesn't have a real source and (if it comes from the same source as your others), the licensing is incorrect. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 19:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Connie Bea Hope

The article barely squeaked by an AfD for no consensus, but what the author listed as systematic bias related to age and the NYT was really an issue with digging up old sources that aren't yet online or easily found/checked. Since you're the go-to guy for these kinds of BLPs (you helped me out with Tom Griscom way back when), would you take a look at the article and provide any help or direction? Thanks. I just did a simple editing. You might want to try to put three or four of the external sources into <>references if you can.Billy Hathorn (talk) 23:09, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Haynes 11-06 20fred.jpg

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Haynes 11-06 20fred.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:31, 19 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 18:31, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

File:Windmills at American Wind Power Center in Lubbock, TX IMG 0220.JPG

Thanks for uploading the image File:Windmills at American Wind Power Center in Lubbock, TX IMG 0220.JPG. I would like to move it to the Commons where I can categorize it in Commons:Category:Wind power in Texas and make it available for the other language Wikipedias. However, the image licensing is currently somewhat unclear. It would be best if you as the image owner would update the license to have the {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} template, if that license is agreeable to you. Thanks. --Teratornis (talk) 22:17, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

new article

I am considering writing an article about Howard Richardson (Colonel), a decorated colonel who dropped a nuclear bomb on the United States after a mid air collision. He is not from Louisiana, however. If you care to help, thanks! If not, that's ok. User F203 (talk) 18:02, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Someone wanted to merge this article so that's what will happen unless we can write a whole lot about the man, enough for a separate article. User F203 (talk) 18:19, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

That's what happened last week on Prentiss Oakley, the deputy in Louisiana who fired the shot that killed Clyde Barrow. He was merged into the overall Bonnie and Clyde article though there was clearly enough for a separate article. I've never heard of Howard Richardson, but I will see what you have, and I won't read it with a predisposition to kill the article.Billy Hathorn (talk) 21:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I would write the article without focusing on the nuclear bomb matter but merely include that as one paragraph. That way, there will be no duplication with the existing article. There is quite a bit on him on a cursory Internet check. Have you started writing yet?Billy Hathorn (talk) 21:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

No, except for a stub. However, I found little about the man except for the bomb incident. But I found much, much more on the bomb incident and his role than is in the article. I will leave it the way it is now, which is just a stub, changed to a redirect to the bomb article, and a mention of his name in the bomb article. Previously, he was not even mentioned in the bomb article. User F203 (talk) 15:16, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

K-Bob's

If you are going to add that there is a K-Bob's in this town and that city, then to be fair you need to add that there is a Taco Bell, and a McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Texaco, Giant, etc., etc., etc., et al, add nausea. Get the point?

Big deal if there is Chang's Mongolian Grill in Beaverton, Oregon.

Who the heck cares?

You are adding too much crap.

Go get a World Book Encyclopedia, or a copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica, etc., and look at it. That is what belongs in an encyclopedia. Being an online encyclopedia does allow you to expand beyond what you can in print, but lets not get carried away.

What you are doing is getting close to what they call the Yellow Pages.

Unreferenced Edits

Billy, i realize that you make many substantial (and great) edits to subjects local to Northern Louisana. However, you have a major problem with repeatedly adding unreferenced material to the articles. You are not a new article. You know the rules. Please quit adding unreferenced material. You can only add information from reliable, verifiable, secondary sources (this means none of your original research! If you don't stop doing this, I'll begin to follow your contributions and pointing them out to admin. Repeatedly and knowingly disregarding the policies of Wikipedia is vandalism and can result in your account being banned. Wikiwikikid (talk) 14:33, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Height of Stonehenge replica (Odessa, Texas) ‎

This makes no sense what so ever:

"The replica matches the original Stonehenge horizontally, but it falls some 70 percent short in height from the English monument. The tallest stone on the original is twenty-two feet, while the shortest in the Odessa version is nineteen feet."

1) 70% would be: item "a" is 10-feet and item "b" is 3-feet. Where did you go to school?

2) You should compare "tallest" to "tallest", not "tallest" to "shortest". If the "tallest" at the original is 22' and the "shortest" in Odessa is 19', that sounds very comparable to each other, and no where near 70% shorter.

Please speak English in facts, not made up math and language.

DYK issue with Whitehead Memorial Museum

Hi! There's an issue with the DYK nomination for this article. Please see the notes there and comment if you would, thanks! ArakunemTalk 18:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I see the target page of the ref is now pointed to support the hook, so that should be good to go. Note however that the other Ref-1 citations all now point to the Saloon sub-page as well. You may want to break out the other refs to each point to their appropriate sub-page too, or just have the rest of them point to the main exhibits page, just to prevent confusion. Thanks! Purple Heart Trail photo

Sign on Interstate 35 designating the Purple Heart Trail.

Can you confirm where this photo was taken? The Interstate 35 in Texas article suggests this designation was applied to I-35 only in Texas, and that other states may name other roads for the Purple Heart. (For example, Interstate 430 in Arkansas is officially designated the "Purple Heart Memorial Highway", though the signs with that name don't incorporate the Purple Heart image.) --RBBrittain (talk) 19:56, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Edward R. Tinsley

The article Edward R. Tinsley has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Tinsley ran for, but was not elected to, the US House of Representatives. He appears to fail WP:Notability (politicians), though those guidelines are not well established. Google News shows nine mentions of his political campaigns and two of his business. He therefore appears to fail WP:Notability (people) as well.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cnilep (talk) 19:12, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

more unreferenced edits...

To which article are you referring?Billy Hathorn (talk) 10:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

the Benton, Louisiana article, the Bossier City, Louisiana article, and several others (particularly with notable residents). Your opinion of notobility does not deem someone notable. They must meet notability standards established by WP policy. Wikiwikikid (talk) 14:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I added three state legislators to notability under Benton, Louisiana. They have their own articles.Billy Hathorn (talk) 14:47, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

neither of the deans have a page, and even if they have pages, there must be citations supporting the assertion that they were residents of benton. Wikiwikikid (talk) 02:31, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Your edits

Hi, and thanks for your contributions. I noticed that you linked some dates recently. This practice is now deprecated. Please see WP:LINKING and WP:MOSNUM. Furthermore, there is an Arbcom restriction on mass linking/delinking of chronological elements, although this is no suggestion from me that you are in breach whatsoever. I'm happy to respond to any inquiries you may have about the matter. Thank you for your attention. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:45, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Also, I noticed that you do a lot of good work on biographies, thanks. There is another MOS issue in your articles that you can address: ranges (particularly date ranges for lifetimes) use en dashes, not em dashes; use – instead of —.
For example, here's how it looked in Drayton Boucher before I fixed it:

Drayton Rogers Boucher (March 19, 1908—June 3, 1983)

After fixing it:

Drayton Rogers Boucher (March 19, 1908 – June 3, 1983)

.
Also note that simple year ranges do not have spaces before and after the dashes, while full date ranges do (1934–1978 vs. January 1, 2000 – December 31, 2001). If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me, and see WP:MOSDASH for more information. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 14:50, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Tell Us More

Ive been trying to find out more about Prentiss Oakley but little appears to be known. What can you tell us?. Thanks for the info on Henderson Jordan. I see his name was pronounced "Jerden"-as if someone was pronouncing it it French? thanks Custom500 (talk) 00:57, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

We had a separate article on Prentiss Oakley, which was deleted early in June. It was similar to this article on Jordan but a little shorter. Oakley was the one who fired the first fatal shots to the fugitives. The JOR DEN is not French in pronounciation, but a country pronounciation unique to the South. I can send you a copy of the deleted article later in the week if you wish.Billy Hathorn (talk) 01:41, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I would appreciate a copy of that article per e-mail address on my user page. Do you have any info on Bienville Parish, I.E. how many deputys did they employ back in the thirties? Regard s Custom500 (talk) 23:43, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Custom500, I found that in 1956 Webster Parish, about twice the size of Bienville Parish, had only five deputies then. Today, Webster Parish would have several dozen deputies.Billy Hathorn (talk) 02:27, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Images

Hey. The reason that your images were tagged for no copyright information is that they do not have a license tag, such as {{PD-user}} (placing it in the public domain) or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} (making it available under the terms of version 3 of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license). In order for these images to remain, one of these tags must be added to the images. Although these notes indicate authorship, they do not indicate the terms that the images are available under, and the latter is the core issue here. – TMF 21:30, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I don't know why you changed the entire hook, but I'm thinking it may be because you missed my point. The problem with the hook was that it read "Pearl Harbor survivor" with a link to Pearl Harbor - the latter being a geographical location. I logically assumed you meant Attack on Pearl Harbor (in the hook, as well as in the article), and wanted to signal this so that you may consider looking around a bit for precise locations of links before creating a link. I also meant to say that it's always better to distinguish between homonyms, so "survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor", "survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack" or similar would have been, IMHO, better than "Pearl Harbor survivor" with the link on Attack on Pearl Harbor.

I have not verified the source and the hook as it was originally in there (I usually only discuss the hooks, not the article), but it might have been fine as it was, with that one change. In fact, I liked the original hook much better than the current one, and the fact that you erased the original version leaves my comment on T:TDYK without its context. But either way, it's your call, and I'm sorry for any misunderstanding. Dahn (talk) 00:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
