A New Year for the DNB, and launch of "volume of the month"

See WT:WP DNB#Volume of the Month for a collaboration that I'm in the course of setting up. Everyone who signed up to the WikiProject for the Dictionary of National Biography is being notified, while there is still time to alter the way of working if need be. Unblocked User:Phenomenex without consulting me?

I hope you're not gonna regret that. I don't know if the guy is genuinely not understanding us, or whether he's a hapless cubicle dweller being pressured by a clueless boss; but I don't think he is going to contribute much here of value. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:51, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Wasn't unblocked at that account it was converted to a soft block. There had been a couple of emails back and forth to unblock-en, including an email from DeltaQuad with the text about {{usernameblock}}, and a statement from DQ that they had unblocked the account, with a cc to your email. Nothing that I am going to die in a ditch for, however, the statement about unblocked had been made, they had been told, and AGF has to start somewhere. Rabbit chop across the back of the neck happens if they foul up, we block and move on. The product itself is well known in laboratory industry, and the company itself is notable (many refs in scientific journals for product being used). <shrug> — billinghurst sDrewth 15:14, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Nema problema, as a Croatian acquaintance used to say; WP:ROPE and all that. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:17, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Kitties socks = Dantherocker1

Hi Billinghurst, for SPI case management purposes, can you please comment here Wikipedia_talk:Sockpuppet_investigations#Please_merge_User:LouisBrownstone_with_sockmaster_Dantherocker1 confirming that the "Kitties" sockfarm =   Confirmed as Dantherocker1 (talk · contribs), so we can merge them? Thank you for your time, — Cirt (talk) 18:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Addressed what I can from first-hand experience. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! — Cirt (talk) 05:55, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
For the nicely written SOPA RfC summary. ASCIIn2Bme (talk) 01:30, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, agent-provacteur only here, others get credit for clarity and writing skills. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:00, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
This barnstar really ought to be called "The Defender of Free Access to Human Knowledge Barnstar", and you and your two colleagues have earned it. This is a truly historic moment, and you deserve the accolades I offer the three of you. I also extend the congratulations to many hundreds of editors committed to defending the greatest encyclopedia in history, and the underlying human right to free access to information. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:15, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks though truthfully I just interpreted what I thought was the community's will, both for the proposal, and against the proposal, to hopefully reflect both opinions. The community expressed their opinions, and hopefully the three of us distilled it appropriately. — billinghurst sDrewth 07:05, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Gadget update

Re: the message I sent today. I also sent one to wikitech-l asking for help with other wikis. I will also talk to Robla (head of WMF engineering) tomorrow about this issue since I think it causes a lot of problems for the 1.19 rollout. Fixing this bug would fix the problem, but it may not happen. I'll talk to others tomorrow about what the best way to solve this is, but I think you may be right that doing another global notification would be the thing to do.— Preceding unsigned comment added by MarkAHershberger‎ (talkcontribs)

Thanks, I hadn't got to Wikitch-L mail yet today with other priorities, and that consideration would be appreciated. I can do a little hassling for where I sit among Wikisource, though my limited programming skills means that I like to read a little more. As an aside, I really like how Krinkle adds tracking links to his gadgets and think that there is some good education that can from the likes of Wikitech, and the knowledgeable about some improved practices in gadget making, and the surrounding governance. I know that it isn't your role, however, some ideals would be useful and help circumvent such issues going forward. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:07, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

William Dougal Christie family

See Talk:William Dougal Christie. Not that vital for encyclopedic purposes, but James Grant (Waterloo), putative father-in-law, could do with checking out anyway. 21:34, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

A quick pull of data, probably bits in Notes and Query as it is quoted as his having contributed. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:30, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: PoV and hungary lootedart.com

Dear billinghurst & Norden1990 ,

Your censorship must stop. Copies of letters from Hilary Rodham Clinton, and the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, documents from a U.S Federal Lawsuit and a U.S District Judge are facts. Facts the public are entitled to know. You are not an official of Wikipedia. I have contacted Sue Gardner at Wikimedia Foundation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yorkcase (talkcontribs) 15:37, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

back-compat

Re, your message on my page, we've fixed Bugzilla:33746, so most of these should be fixed. Let us know of any others that you find. -- MarkAHershberger(talk) 20:54, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Brilliant. Thanks for taking the opportunity to let me know. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:31, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
