Your question on the Reference Desk

edit

Re:Ref desk. You can just place a {{db-self}} tag on the page. Hope this helps. The Evil Spartan 19:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The question should have been posed at the Wikipedia:Help desk. Your description of the situation was not quite accurate. There is and used to be an article Herd behavior, and a redirect page Herd mentality (with a lower-case "m"). Then you created a new article Herd Mentality (with an upper-case "M", which goes against our conventions: see Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Lowercase second and subsequent words in titles). That latter article was replaced by another editor by a redirect to Herd behavior – not obviously an unreasonable thing to do, especially in light of the existing Herd mentality redirect page. Then you blanked the page (usually not a good idea), whereupon that change was reverted (a reasonable action). I don't see that the talk page of the other editor instructs you to use e-mail for contact. The advantage of using regular talk pages is that other editors can follow the discussion and weigh in with further arguments. The editor does write on their talk page: "This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries." I don't know when you sent the e-mail, but probably about one hour before you posted here, since that is when your blanking was reverted. Allow the person some time to respond.  --Lambiam 19:51, 26 September 2007

Give the guy a break. He's a new editor, and blanking pages is common for new users who don't know the policy. He was trying to get it deleted. The Evil Spartan 17:28, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Using wiki markup

edit

I've fixed the numerous problems with the wiki markup at Herd mentality.

  • There is rarely a need to use <br />, and the way in which you use it interferes with the regular wiki markup.
    • For a section title, just put ==My title== on one line by itself.
    • To offset one paragraph from the next, leave one blank line in between.
    • For lists, as in "See also" and "References" sections, put each item on a line by itself with an asterisk in front to get a bulleted list.
  • In article names and section titles, capitalize only the first word, and use a singular form if possible. Apart for the first letter, links are case-sensitive and do not automatically resolve plural referents to a singular form. So if there is an article Change agent, then the forms Change Agent, Change Agents and Change agents can still be red links. However, if you write, for example: [[change agent]]s, it is displayed as: change agents.

Please fix the other articles you have created accordingly.  --Lambiam 10:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Early_Adopters.pdf listed for deletion

edit

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Early_Adopters.pdf, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 17:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on Image:HerdMentality.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip [i.e. a Word document or PDF file] that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:HerdMentality.pdf|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you.
