Help me! edit

Please help me with...

My first wiki page just got deleted out of no reason. I love writing about the place that I have visited and I just doing it. I do not understand why did my page get deleted. This hotel which I have written my content is about a hotel which became the Sri Lanka's first carbon neutral hotel and in Sri Lanka there is only a very limited number of hotels which is carbon neutral. So this is indeed a fact that should be added on the encyclopedia.

How can you claim that the content is promoting something, the details mentioned are after a very careful research about the hotel and I have mentioned the reference too.

Please help me have my page back. Thank you

Hi, I've looked at reddogsix's tag and I'm afraid I agree with it. I've reinstated the tag because you're not supposed to remove it, but I see you've contested it anyway. It's not deleted yet, an administrator will come along and decide. DrStrauss talk 18:17, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi DrStrauss, but why would you think that the content is not following the guidelines, there aren't any articles written about carbon neutral hotels in Sri Lanka and this place is the first in Sri Lanka don't you think that this is a fact. What makes it sound as if it is promotional, I have added a little detail about the property because its about a hotel. I would appreciate a kind response highlighting areas that make you feel its promotional so I could better improve it. Thank you!

Speedy deletion nomination of Colombo Courtyard Hotel edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Colombo Courtyard Hotel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. agtx 13:36, 21 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start. Thank you for your kind advice can you tell me how can edit the existing article because sine it got deleted I find it difficult to retrieve it back and edit. "Bernadiene"(talk)
I could restore the article and move it to draft space for you to edit, and if you ask me to do that I will. However, before you decide whether to do so or not I should warn you that it would be a waste of my time and yours, because I have searched for information about the hotel and it clearly does not satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines, which means that any article on the subject is likely to be deleted. To my knowledge there have already been at least six pages created about the hotel on Wikipedia over the course of a little over a year, and all of them have been deleted as unsuitable for Wikipedia. The same is likely to happen to any new attempts to do the same thing. All of those pages have been created by single purpose accounts which have done nothing but try to use Wikipedia to publicise that hotel. One of those accounts has been blocked from editing for more than a year now, and the same may happen to any others if they appear to exist for the purpose of using Wikipedia to advertise the hotel or if they appear to be used to evade the block on the original account. If you are not working for the hotel, and are just trying to create an article about it out of your own interest, then I really strongly advise you that you are likely to find doing so frustrating, as the page will just get deleted again, so you would be better advised to try contributing to Wikipedia on other topics, where you are more likely to have success. If, on the other hand, you have no interest in writing about anything other than the hotel, then you would be better advised to forget about Wikipedia and do it somewhere else, as the subject is really not at all likely to be accepted as the topic of a Wikipedia article. Hi, I have few questions! There are tons of other hotels they have their own wiki pages done but why can't this hotel have its wiki page done! Also I just did the content again I had more details added to justify why it needs to be up on Wikipedia. If other similar properties can have pages done why not this hotel, I mean its not fair to have a page deleted in less than 10 minutes once it's created. Can you kindly advise me how to have this page up and I will be putting few other pages up too on few other locations in Sri Lanka. My first article gets continuously rejected and but just because it was previously done by few other users doesn't mean that every article done on this page is not factual. Bernadiene" (talk)

  • I do sympathise with editors who come here in good faith and put work into creating a new article, only to see their work deleted for reasons which they had no way of knowing about when they came here. My personal opinion is that it would actually be more helpful to require new editors to get experience of editing before creating new articles, so that they could avoid that problem, but as it is the best I can do is advise them to do so, as I did above.
  • We very often get new editors asking "why was my article about a business deleted when there are lots of other articles about similar businesses that have not been deleted?" Usually, one or both of the following answers applies. (a) The other businesses satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines and the one in the new article doesn't. (b) The other businesses are in fact unsuitable, and the articles about them should be deleted, but nobody has noticed them and nominated them for deletion. If and when someone does so, they will be deleted. Since you don't mention any specific examples, I can't comment on the articles you have in mind.
  • You refer to the issue of articles being "not factual", but the reasons for deletion of the pages you have created is nothing to do with their not being factual: they are mainly to do with the question of whether the hotel is notable enough for inclusion, and also partly to do with being written in a way which appears to extol the virtues of the hotel, rather than in a neutral way.
  • I have told you why I think you would be better off not trying to create an article about the Colombo Courtyard Hotel, but if you prefer not to take my advice then you are perfectly free to try again. Before you do so, though, you should look at Wikipedia's notability guidelines, if you haven't already. In my opinion there are far too many guidelines and policies on Wikipedia, and most if not all of them are far too long and complicated, making it confusing and intimidating for new editors, so I suggest having a quick look over them, rather than necessarily reading and trying to learn every detail before you do any more editing. However, in this case the most relevant ones are the general notability guideline and the guideline on notability of organisations and companies. You should also have a look at the guide to reliable sources. You may or may not also find some of the information at Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations helpful: at least have a glance at it. If, having looked at the notability guidelines, you decide that, contrary to my impression, the hotel does satisfy those guidelines, and decide to go ahead, you may start a new page from scratch or you may contact me and ask me to restore the last article you created and move it to a draft for you to work on. Drafts are not usually speedily deleted unless they contain something totally unacceptable, such as libel, copyright infringement, or blatant spam, so you should have much more time to get it right.
  • Finally, I would like to apologise for the fact that much of what I have said to you must seem discouraging. I honestly don't want to put you off editing, but I think that in the long run it is more likely to be helpful to you to let you know what things are unlikely to be successful, so that you can avoid the frustrating experience of putting a lot of work into something which is likely to fail.
