December 2019 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:17, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Your only purpose here seems to be to promote yourself. Wikipedia is not your personal website. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:19, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why Did You Block Me edit

@HickoryOughtShirt?4:

I have a client that I am trying to build a Wikipedia page for as alot of other artist and actors have done. This is a paid service we provide for client that benefits him and us as well. This is not for personal promotion. Review the references associated with his article that you denied and you will see this is legitimate.

I have already requested an appeal for this.

I disclosed at the very beginning when I selected 'paid service'. I am new to this so if you can explain what exactly needs to be done or provided so I can take care of that so I can be unblocked and continue our service to our client. Your orginal reason of 'self promotion' is wrong. Benetembry (talk) 03:50, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

I thought self promotion because of your username. You are still using Wikipedia without the proper disclosure (see WP:DISCLOSE). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:51, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

So again... What must be done? How do I correct it to remove this block? I still need to add his filmography and other details. Benetembry (talk) 03:54, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

You are likely not going to be unblocked just so you can continue promoting your client. I suggest you find alternative outlets. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:56, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

And I can't add that tag to the page until you unblock me. Benetembry (talk) 03:56, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

So you are telling me that ALL of the actors, musical artist on that are on Wikipedia by multiple contributors and NONE of them are their agencies that thet work for? So first you block me for the wrong reason, then you quote a standard that provides a tag that I can't use because YOU have me blocked? Is that correct? Is there a supervisor or somebody higher I can talk to. Benetembry (talk) 04:08, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't work like that and yes, we are all volunteers (myself included). Anyone editing for pay is properly disclosing (which you didn't) and editing through the proper protocols but that is a very small minority. While I did originally block you for self promotion, it is still correct because you're not here to improve the encyclopedia. The encyclopedia doesn't need to help your clients, even if your clients need business, which they can find by advertising on their own web sites. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:13, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yep. Anytime I find someone is here to promote a client or other subject with which they have a conflict of interest, I block them from editing. There are millions of articles on Wikipedia. It is an encyclopedia built by the love, dedication and hard work of millions of volunteers like myself. It is not a venue for the promotion of anyone or anything. As you are here to further your client's interests, you are not here to carry on the Great Work of building the world's largest free-content encyclopedia. That being the case, I for one will not unblock you.-- Deepfriedokra

If that is the case all actors, writers and all other celebrities should not be allowed on this site. Since my client is in the same category as them, so it can be assumed they don't add value to Wikipedia either. I will also inform our management that the clients that are already on Wikipedia through our contributers that work for our agency be removed by a cease and desist. And also noticing on the pages that have our clients, there is a request for monies. I suppose that doesn't help or improve as well right? Thank you for your time. We will send an email with our clients to remove and good luck solicating funds from celebrity pages especially since they don't help implove the encyclopedia. Benetembry (talk) 04:31, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

It is not up to your agency or to any article subjects as to whether or not there is an article about them on Wikipedia. Wikipedia has articles on subjects that are written about in independent reliable sources with significant coverage if they meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability. I would also advise you since you mention a cease and desist letter, to read no legal threats; you will never be unblocked if you choose to threaten or actually take legal action. We cannot prevent you from taking legal action, as it is your prerogative, but if you choose to use that route, you cannot edit Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 08:28, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you are aware of other publicists or agencies acting as undeclared paid editors on Wikipedia, please point out the editor(while not publicly outing anyone) or articles so it can be addressed. 331dot (talk) 08:30, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

At present we have no further interest in Wikipedia. We are preparing an email to send to your executive staff asking for removal of all our clients and providing a copy of these conversations to the DOJ, national media outlets and our lawyers plus the BBC. Again we were not promoting, there were no hyperlinks in the article nor did the article say to 'check out his movies or show'. We were only providing first hand information which is more accurate than any of your volunteers could have provided. You can delete this account. Any other statements will be made through our legal representation. In essence YOU are now blocked indefinitely. Benetembry (talk) 14:04, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Accounts cannot be deleted, only abandoned. Since you have initiated a legal action instead of pursuing your concerns with us, you cannot be unblocked until the legal action is concluded or the threat withdrawn, see no legal threats. 331dot (talk) 14:26, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • We have no executive staff, but if you wish to contact the Wikipedia Foundation legal department, please read how at WP:NLT. 331dot (talk) 14:28, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

This account wasn't going to be unblocked anyways according to this thread. Again, our legal team will be in contact in regards to these actions and the removal of our clients. Again, you have been blocked indefinitely. Benetembry (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Given this, I have removed your ability to edit this page. If you wish to be unblocked once your legal action is resolved, you will need to use WP:UTRS to request unblock. 331dot (talk) 19:44, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

You have no valid reason to block me I have been blocked for no valid reason. Whoever the administrator is blocked me thinking this is some type of self promotion which it is not. We have a client who works through our agency and we are trying to build him a page on wikipedia page as many other publicist have. We do not understand the issue.Benetembry (talk) 03:37, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Wikipedia has no interest in helping your clients. Please review conflict of interest and paid editing. You won't be unblocked to continue editing about your clients. If you want to be an individual, general contributor, please describe what subjects you want to edit about that are unrelated to your clients or your business. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:25, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

That is so much worse than what I originally thought. Did you know that it is against our Wikimedia Terms of Use to edit without disclosing any financial connections you have? You must disclose your financial relationship. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:41, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

UTRS ticket #28009 has been closed. edit

I have told user that they may not edit about their client. I have asked user to read and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID..-- Deepfriedokra 04:13, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Deepfriedokra. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:15, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@HickoryOughtShirt?4: You are welcome. There isn't a lot in this vale of tears I feel passionate about, but this encyclopedia is one of those things. And it's colleagues like you that make the years of striving even more worthwhile.-- Deepfriedokra 04:29, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
