Speaking of realism, I'm reminded of the book Norstrilia in which the nominal head of state was the Queen, that is Elizabeth II, who had been missing for thousands of years but whose death was not confirmed. Carmen TFA 6 April

A discussion is taking place within the Opera Project about the development of an infobox that might be suitable for WP opera articles. See here and here for details. Unfortunately the discussion has been overtaken by a provocative suggestion that an experimental infobox be tried out on the Carmen article when it appears on the main page on Saturday. This is bound to cause trouble and dissent; the main page is not supposed to be a forum for agenda-pushing. Already, infobox zealots with no interest in opera or the project are putting their oars in. In the interests of tranquility I am requesting that you pull Carmen for the time being, at least until the Opera Project discussion has reached some level of agreement. I know this is short notice, but Kenneth Widmerpool is ready to go as a replacement. Or Le Mesurier. But I don't think any opera article should be TFA at the moment. I hope you get this in time. Speaking as someone previously (and wrongly) described as an "infobox zealot with no interest in opera or the project"; this is an hysterical over-reaction. There is no reason to suppose that the talk-page discussion will spill over on to the article; or that those advocating the infobox will cease to be calm and courteous, as at present. As only two TFAs have been scheduled by anyone else since I was appointed, if I remember correctly (14th and 15th February), the workload hasn't changed... April should be better for editing for me. Bencherlite^Talk 21:23, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Well, yes, under the current structure, only four people are allowed to schedule TFAs but there is no limit on the number of people who can nominate articles for scheduling at TFAR. You may have noticed that I have just increased the non-specific date slots to four, to give extra opportunities for nominations. It would be good (and would help me) if people used them - and not just for the same ol' types of articles, or in the same ol' way. When was the last time someone came to TFAR with a video game nomination, or a hurricane, for instance? Both are categories where we have lots of articles waiting to be run. When was the last time someone came to TFAR and said "I've just spent half an hour polishing up this slightly older FA that someone else wrote, dealing with the deadlinks and maintenance tags, and now it's ready for TFA"? There's a "to do" list here for people looking for FAs in need of a bit of TLC. I'm happy to do it myself but the more people who do it the better. I would nominate a hurricane or mushroom every now and then, but the rule of one nomination at a time results in replacing one with a date by another with a date as soon as the former is scheduled. I suggest you try to temporarily lift that restriction, - you can always reinstate it if things get out of hand. - Thank you for what you are doing, all the work four or so people are supposed to share! User participation is a tough nut wiki continually drives people away and that's another story, but FA land needs an overhaul starting at the top and that can be done more easily. Raul has not made an edit since Feb when he said he'd post "in a few days" and of course he never did. Directing via osmosis and email doesn't cut it--if that's even happening. If 4 are allowed to be what we call delegates at TFAR and you're the only active one, then the others need replaced.PumpkinSky talk 11:34, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Highway TFA

Just a head's up, but this coming May 13 would be the centennial of the creation of the Michigan State Trunkline Highway System. Real life got in the way a bit this winter here, but the article should be coming out of WP:HWY/ACR and headed to FAC within the next few days. I'm going to make an impassioned plea in the nomination statement to hopefully attract timely review of the article with the hopes that it can be promoted in time to be considered as a TFA for the anniversary. Legal Action

Wikipedia has a policy. WP:NLT and I agree with it completely. However, they do add the following:

If you must take legal action, we cannot prevent you from doing so. However, it is required that you do not edit Wikipedia until the legal matter has been resolved to ensure that all legal processes happen via proper legal channels. You should instead contact the person or people involved directly, by email or through any other contact methods the user provides.

Perhaps you can articulate this better than I? That is, the need to simplify the closing process and cut out unnecessary steps, making them optional instead of mandatory, etc.?

Home today

I will be home later today, assuming I survive a ten-hour flight, and in the next few days, I will do you a chart of proposed anniversary dates on the coin articles. Many of them are coming up to multiple of 25 year anniversaries over the next few years. Part of that is due to the Act of September 26, 1890 which said the Treasury could change designs without congressional permission after 25 years, but even before then, the Mint seemed to get inventive about every 25 years. Bencherlite, as I'm sure you'll have seen, some editors are starting to post walls of text on TFAR that are going seriously off topic and bogging the discussion down. I've collapsed one such side-track. Could you and the other TFAR delegates please keep a close eye on the discussion and do what you can to keep it manageable? There may also be an issue with sockpuppetry and disruption; Jayen466 has put out a call to arms to his pals on Wikipediocracy, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some trouble coming from that quarter. WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members). So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers: Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available". Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497). Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along. A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. I really don't understand why so many GA reviews drag on and on, or become so contentious as another I closed a couple of days ago. With a little goodwill and a bit of give and take they can be done in dusted in a few days unless the article is a basket case, in which case the review ought to be speedily closed as "not listed". Midshipman TFA

I moved "pictured" to the Napoleonic era sentence since that was the time period of this uniform pictured. I left the rest as is to keep it at the character count that would format correctly - I thought 14xx characters was 'close to 1200', thanks for the clarification! Pipe Dream (musical)

I've uploaded additional images, so you might want to reconsider your choice of TFA image (or not, as you prefer). I've also substituted a free image from the fair use lead one. Feel free to browse though the source (use the faint arrows above the image to do so, the more prominent arrow will take you to a picture of Traubel which as far as I know is NOT PD. The problem with the program which is the source is that unless you've seen Pipe Dream, and few people have (I have not), some of the images are hard to place in the show, but that wouldn't matter for purposes of TFA image. If you want one of them, I have better versions; I was at the NY Public library in January and photographed some of these items, including this program.--Wehwalt (talk) 12:11, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

...but you also get to see the gnome-like improvements made by others, the well-programmed anti-vandal bots doing their thing (and, invisibly, the edit filter protections devised by very clever people) and the recent changes patrollers on the look for TFA-related stupidity. Maybe I've just been lucky with my three TFAs (all on very dull subjects, of course). I also get the impression that TFA stupidity is not as bad as it was. There is something to be said, of course, for being away from your computer for most if not all of TFA day, and picking up the pieces when the dust has settled, rather than clicking "refresh" on your watchlist every 30 seconds.

@Eric: "I'm very hard to discourage from doing whatever it is I decide to do." You don't say... As for my heavy calibre weaponry, Mrs Dr Bencherlite has no complaints :-)

(jumping in) My experience (with - Holy Mother of the Gods - 29 (!!!!) TFAs) is that you cannot predict which ones will go smoothly and which will be insanity. It's not the mindless vandalism that drives me nuts, it's the cranks out to Right Great Wrongs of all sorts that will send you into orbit. For a while, I was plagued with a guy that came along and insisted that a pallium in the middle ages was a symbol of an archbishop's subordination to Rome ... which it really wasn't at the time. Then of course we have the encouraging words about Talk:Hygeberht on its main page day. Oh, and don't forget the anal compulsive folks who come along and alphabetize your categories. I try to take a long view, even if it means putting up with stuff I don't like for a few days. Everyone wants to come in at the 11th hour, reflected glory, Little Red Hen or whatever. I'm certainly not going to get in an editor war, nor do I have to compromise the integrity of the article when I have the community to depend on.
