Pizza Port edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Pizza Port, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. October 2010 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Bartonellosis do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please don't add links to your own website. Smartse (talk) 19:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ben, the revelant guideline is WP:ELNO #11: links should be avoided to "blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority." I trust that you were adding the link in good faith but some would also consider it spamming to add a link to your own website. You're obviously knowledgable in this field, so maybe you could use the sources on your website to improve the bartonellosis article? I noticed that you maybe have some concerns over the fact that anyone can edit here, but in my experience, vandalism and problematic edits are very rare in any science/health related articles. If you were to add a note to your website, releasing the text under a GFDL licence, you could simply copy + paste the text into the article. Oh in fact you can do that already as you state "The content may be freely used and distributed by anyone without notifying or compensating the author." I know things like this seem a bit stupid, but they're necessary to stop wikipedia becoming over run by external links. Let me know if you have any questions.
