I'd like to see you here as a hobby editor edit

I know DeSpain was a paid article. But I hope you enjoyed the process. You have a decent writing style for Wikipedia, something that will develop over time (even if you are a professional writer, Wikipedia is very different), and may find it a rewarding hobby. As long as you declare paid submissions as you have with DeSpain, write those through WP:AFC and are scrupulous in not editing artcles you have been paid for once they are proomoted to being articles except by using {{Request edit}} on their talk page (except for very simple factual corrections, typos etc), then you will be able to enjoy editing here as an amateur, too.

Well, that was a rambling sentence! Fiddle Faddle 10:32, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm not quite sure how to answer or communicate with you. Let's see if this works. Thanks for the compliment and the invite. I'm pretty well packed with writing my own books, editing other folks' work, building websites, walking the dog, etc. Ben Airdunat is a pen name only used for some online stuff. You can view more at www.kingcobrapress.com or at the very neglected www.lifeinthelaughlane.com.

Your assistance was splendid (full of splen). One think that made the process difficult for me was the variance in pages that are currently live. All the rules didn't seem to apply equally to all the pages, but I think that's life in a nutshell in the world these days. And the reams of instructional pages to absorb were formidable. You walked me through to success, though, and I thank you. I don't know what I could suggest to make the process smoother, but I didn't quite understand how to keep track of when the submission might be accepted. I remember seeing that 3,000+ submissions were ahead. I didn't want to harass the people or the process, so a year went by before I got a message about the rejection. I had a serious bout with cluster headaches from October to February then COVID slipped in and the US of Angst went to hell. Luckily I live in Thailand. 70 million people, first case Jan 13 I think, total of 3,000-some cases, only 58 deaths, no domestic cases here for more than 2 months.

When Pleasant returns, I'll see if I can find some more supporting references for the awards. And I know pics are his, but maybe we can fill out the appropriate Commons forms. Thanks again for your help. One last question: where are you located? I see you tell people the time, but I never quite understood where you might be...

Scott

Ben Airdunat, I'm in the UK, deep in south Devon
Wikipedia is a daunting place, and there is little consistency. The devolved nature means it is a pleasant social experiment.
I try to help where I can, mainly because it's fun! Fiddle Faddle 12:13, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
