MegaNuke/MegaNuke Update

Hello Bellezzasolo! I lerned about your script a few days ago when Kb03 mentoned he had instlled it after I told him about the plain old MassRevert script. So I decied to install it. I have not used your script yet, but I can see it could be VERY useful when working with LTAs. So thank you for making it. Now that I have that out of the way, on to what I came to your talkpage to do. As the MegaNuke button has been moved to the Twinkle Menu, I have updated the docs to relfect that. Hope you don't mind! MegaNuke not working

Hi Bellezzasolo. When I clicked in the "Nuke user" button, the script does not work. Could you fix that? Thanks Abelmoschus Esculentus talk / contribs 13:56, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

P.S. I will make a copy of the previous version and use that for now. Abelmoschus Esculentus talk / contribs 13:58, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
@Abelmoschus Esculentus: it seems to work for me, the dialog just doesn't close, I think that's the source of the confusion. Bellezzasolo Discuss 14:08, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
Oh. I tried it on test wiki and it seemed to be working. There are a few problems:
  1. Administrators need to have the "rollback" flag to use the script (line 229 "if (Morebits.userIsInGroup('rollbacker'))" should include "sysop" group as well)
  2. The box doesn't close after clicking the nuke user button (as mentioned)
Abelmoschus Esculentus talk / contribs 14:17, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
@Abelmoschus Esculentus: I've reproduced a bug in the future reversion code. It looks like it's lookingn for contributions before the current time, not after. Thanks for spottinng that! Bellezzasolo Discuss 15:45, 7 December 2018 (UTC)
@Abelmoschus Esculentus: Well, it might not have been that at all. I think it probably was related to ratelimits. I've updated the code now, it should avoid that. It would also explain why it works on sysop accounts. Bellezzasolo Discuss 16:37, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Bellezzasolo,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

What do you think of my merge between Template:Infobox campground and Template:Infobox holiday camp? Do you think that I can start implementing it or does it have any problems? Pkbwcgs (talk) 09:53, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

@Pkbwcgs: it looks good to me on first inspection, although I notice both templates don't have testcases, which makes merging fun. I'd suggest getting some real examples and the all-parameters format onto a testcase page before completing the merge. Bellezzasolo Discuss 15:58, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

Citing NOPR without elaborating is extremely problematic. This links to Paid Editing, so you're essentially accusing other editors of undisclosed paid editing. This is a form of casting aspersions, and needs to stop. Bellezzasolo Discuss 17:45, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

The fact is that there are many haters of Anu Malik, and there have been many attempts to malign his image. Posting about someone life's controversy is in no way a neutral act. However, i should have given the reason as "Violation of NPOV policy". Sorry for that! Moreover, Wikipedia should only contain neutral, relevant and point to point details. I understand my responsibility as Wikipedia's editor and i assure you that whatever edit i do will be as per Wikipedia's rules only. Kindly reply about this to me within 48 hours, otherwise that portion is destined to be removed. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkupad (talkcontribs)

(edit conflict × 3) @Nkupad: The thrust of your point seems to be that the controversy section is given undue weight. It doesn't look that way to me, but I'm certainly no expert on the subject. Regarding NPOV/NPOR, mistakes happen! No harm has been done, especially since the last comment I saw regarding it was somebody who didn't know that NPOR linked to paid editing. Issue with "admin highlighter" script

Greetings,
I hope you're having a great day, and I come here to report a bug. You stated that the script shows administrator and various user groups, all with different unique colors. While the administrator blue is working, both the pending changes reviewer highlighting is not working, both on ToBeFree's signature, and my signature, I'm not seeing any highlight except white. I've also seen no highlight in pink for template editors. I haven't edited the script at all, and just installed it. I'm wondering if I did something wrong, and if I didn't, if you could fix this bug. Thank you for all of your contributions to scripts and templates, it is strongly appreciated.

Stop this nasty IP address person

The only reason why that IP address user is vandalising my talk page is because I told him off for his rudeness. I don't think he'll ever go away as he hops between IPs.

If you can, could you or an administrator lock my talk page from IP editing until this is all sorted? Luigitehplumber (talk) 21:19, 31 December 2018 (UTC) ≤:(talk page stalker) No need to protect the page. I blocked the IP. If they switch, have someone block the /64 for a short bit and you should be fine. TonyBallioni (talk) 21:22, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Someone's already put my talk page up on the protection bit. I'm saying as the IP is a hopper evading a previous block. He threatened me that he would vandalise my page when his normal IP account is unbanned. Luigitehplumber (talk) 21:24, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 2) @LTPHarry: I certainly can't do it, since I'm not an admin. To be honest, I don't think you're going to get your talk page protected without a more significant history of vandalism, see Wikipedia:Protection policy#User talk pages. You can certainly have your user page protected at your request - this edit threatens your user page. Bellezzasolo Discuss 21:26, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Okay. His ban on his normal IP expires (I think) on the 9th of January, so maybe wait and see what happens then. Happy New Year as well! Luigitehplumber (talk) 21:28, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).

  Guideline and policy news

  1. G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
  2. R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
  3. G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.

  Technical news

  • Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
  1. At least 8 characters in length
  2. Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
  3. Different from their username
User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
  • Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
  • {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.

  Arbitration

  Miscellaneous

  • Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
  • Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

Is a level 4 template necessary for the first offence? Normally, I start with a level 1 template, or a level 2 at the highest. I guess a high initial warning could be applicable for Hitler-related vandalism. ᴀɴᴏɴʏᴍᴜᴤᴤ ᴜᴤᴇʀ (ᴛᴀʟᴋ) 15:13, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

You may directly issue a 4-im (final warning) template directly without going throguh all 4. There is no rules or policies restricting you from doing so. Serious vandalism / troll should be reported to AIV right away without warnings per WP:DENY. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talkcontribs) 15:18, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @Anonymuss User: Yeah, with a first edit like that, and the second edit using a racial slur like "Chink", I think it's pretty clear what further edits will be. Factoring in the username issue too, I think that one warning was enough, and any further similar editing would result in a NOTHERE block (as it has). Mukhtar Ansari is a Mafia Don turned Politician, please tell the whole truth, don't try to hide the facts

Hi 180.151.104.149, in Mohammad Hamid Ansari, there is a list of politicians for whom we have no reference of them being mafia dons. While one may be a former mafia-don, I don't think it's hugely relevant. We definitely don't want to infer that the others are, though. Bellezzasolo Discuss 12:34, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Are you trying to hide the fact, are you pedaling the false narrative, you should be ashamed of saying that a dreaded Mafia don is politician. Extended content

Hello, thank you for your reply. I would like the text below for Request Edit.

I will take your advice, and try the Request Edit first for this wikipedia profile. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Dellert_Dellacroix

Thomas Dellert-Bergh also known as Thomas Dellacroix and Tommy Dollar  a name given to him by American Pop artist Andy Warhol (born 12 July 1963) is a Swedish multimedia artist, photographer, painter, actor, singer, songwriter, poet, film maker, director, fashion designer,

and interior decorator.

As a singer and Musical artist He started his music career as Pontius Pilate in the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar Pop Rock in Stockholm in an early version in 1970. In 1973 he performed in the first drag shows and neo cabarets in Stockholm like the legendary Club Alexandras Eccentric Cabaret. This is where he made his first Sinatra tributes on stage. He was one of the original Punk Rockers in London in 1975 and toured with the Sex Pistols and later became the lead singer of his own Punk band The Resistance. In the later seventies he toured with the Musical two for the Se-saw all over Scandinavia. In 1981 he did the costumes for the cult Musical The Rocky Horror Show in Gothenburg and in 1983 he was the Director and narrator of the same musical at the China Theatre in Stockholm in a star studded cast. He also played the principal part of Gerald Bollingbroke in the musical Me and My Girl at Intiman in Stockholm. Thomas has also worked for Cameron Mackintosh several times. He sang the parts of Grantaire, Bamatabois, as well as Javert in the Swedish original cast version of the musical Les Misérables. [8] This was also made into both a record and a TV program. He has also recorded the Phantom of the Opera and in the German Stuttgart production of Miss Saigon he sang the principal part of the Engineer. He also sings Cabaret and Sunset Boulevard. As the Jazz singer and vintage crooner Tommy D he has performed around the world in jazz clubs and other venues singing the repertoire of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Kurt Weill. He has recently done the final mix on his Swedish jazz album "Resan hem " the journey home. With 50 of the best musicians in Scandinavia. In 2013 He directed and performed in his own Berlin Cabaret in The Berlin Art Loft in Wedding.

As a Photographer As a contemporary art photographer, he has had as well over 50 international exhibits in museums and galleries, as many international art photography magazine covers, and extensive reportage.[9]

Photo Scandinavia did the biggest single reportage in the history of the magazine since its start, when on 11 pages, they showed 48 pictures of Dellacroix & Dellfina.

"Self-portraits have practically existed since the beginning of art, but to do "self-portraits of others" it seems to be something that Dellacroix and Dellfina are quite alone with on the artistic scene. Contemporary, it feels both visually and meaningfully wise. It is an art form on the borderline between reality and illusion."[13] Jan Almlöf, editor in chief of PHOTO (Foto) Scandinavia As a contemporar, provocative art photographer he has worked under the name of Dellacroix in symbiosis with former wife and partner Agnieszka Dellert-Dellfina between 2001 to 2012 when they divorced and went separate ways . He has also collaborated with photographer Ellen von Unwerth, photographer Bruno Ehrs photographer Raphael Yoshitomi photographer Philipp Mueller and Artist Rainer Laakso and Balthazar Silviera. He now lives and work with Ruby Vava Venezia since 2013.

As a Contemporary Visual Artist He has had over 100 International exhibitions during the last 30 years. He is represented in collections like The Absolut Vodka Collection, The Heinz collection the Swedish Royal family Collection, and in several museums, like the . He has ben the official artist for both Absolut Vodka and Mercedes Benz. Death and fame is a central theme in Dellert's works, and he uses irony and humor mixed with horror as one of his main tools. His work has a strong, humanistic approach, and he uses powerful images to show the horrors of war and genocide.[3][4][5] He warns about all fanatical, racial and fundamentalistic thinking in his art. After meeting Andy Warhol in 1976 he made a series of hand printed silk screens in collaboration with his childhood friends Bruno Ehrs and Rainer Laakso. This art prints was presented to Warhol in his Factory in new York in 1980. A well documented event. He inspired Warhol with his camouflage prints that later became Warhols own art expression. The same happened with artist Jean Michel Basquiat who visited Dellert's exhibit in New York 1982. All paintings by Dellert was then framed with ropes in larger then canvas wood frames. After the exhibit Thomas left all frames on the street outside the art gallery on St Marx Place a few meters away from the home of Basquiat. He brought them home and this new framing technique became his trade mark. Dellert works with painting, collage, photography, installation, video, hand printed silk screen, and junk sculpture. CRITIC VOICES Art critic and historian Jonas Stampe writes in the book Reality and Illusion in 2006 that "Thomas Dellert-Dellacroix got to know Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring in New York in the 1980's. Before that in 1976 he had become friend with Andy Warhol who gave him the nickname "Tommy Dollar" because of his fascination for everything of American value at the time. The artistic exchange was mutual. Warhol got inspired by Thomas Dellert's camouflage silk screens and later did his own series of camouflage prints."[14]And came to the conclusion that "Jean Michel Basquiat let himself be inspired by Thomas' way of stretching his canvases with ropes and in wood frames that crossed each other in the corners that Thomas used for his exhibit in New York in 1982 at the Lucky Strike Gallery in collaboration with Rainer Laakso. (...)To discover an artist like Thomas Dellert-Dellacroix is not only exciting, it is surprising. Indeed, it is unbelievable that this Swedish artist has not yet been more appreciated in his homeland. The Swedish black hole is frightening. When he himself writes about his fascination for "the gap between fame and misfortune", I immediately think about his own artistry, but naturally also about so many other artists that did not get discovered. To pass by an artist like Dellert-Dellacroix is difficult. It is absolutely clear that he is one of the most interesting Swedish artist we have today. Probably he will become one of the more well known Swedish artist on the international art scene. Not only because his works touch us, or are artistically expressive or because they talk to us about our epoch and future. But mostly because they shine of that courage that carries art and life forward."[15] The American art critic John Orr wrote in the Miami chronicle 1986 after the exhibition at the James Baker Gallery in West Palm Beach USA: "This young man who is all truth and every fiber a passionate artist, I took him to see the Rauschenberg exhibition at Helander Gallery, for this is one of his mentors. I shall review this exhibition soon, but upon my first glance his pictures and collages seemed to contain a very gentle beauty that made "my rebel" Dellert appear as a Titan by comparison. Perhaps age is creeping upon me too quickly. I handed this meteor over to Bruce Helander and as I drove away I felt spent and weary, incapable and sterile. The little energy that remained within me was drained with humble admiration for an almost unknown artist whose place in the history of art is already reserved and waiting for him."[16]

As a Fashion Designer To se the 2019 Fashion designs for summer teenage dresses, bags, scarves, jackets, jeans, suitcases, and perfumes

As an Actor As an actor he has worked with the Swedish legendary stage and film director Ingmar Bergman He has worked as an actor on the Royal Dramatic Theatre,The Royal Court Theatre, RiksTheatre tour, Swedish Television, Swedish Radio, etc he also has over 50 short films to his credit.

As an Original Punk Rocker He got in touch with the punk movement in 1975, while living in London. In 1977, Tommy Dollar got close to the members of the Sex Pistols, and later took care of when they came to Stockholm.[9] Then, he had already opened his Punk Gallery "Suicide" in the old town, Stockholm, with a mix of art galleries for punk expressions and a store for hand-made designed arty punk clothes by Tommy Dollar . At the same time, he started one of the first punk bands in Stockholm under the name of "Tommy Dollar & The Resistance", a short-lasting affair. He was portrayed in the cult movie PUNK a Kick in the as by the director and playwright Stig Larsson.[10] He later hung out with the Sex Pistols in Paris, France, and one night was almost killed accidentally by Sid Vicious, the former bass player of the band.

As a Jazz crooner As a vintage jazz "Crooner" he has as performed in legendary venues like Club St German, La Bilboquet, and Chez Maxims in Paris, France as in the trendy New York club Nell's, and the legendary Cabaret Club, and the Torture Garden (fetish club), all placed in London. He has recently been performing the American Songbook in citys like Berlin, and Vinice and Miami.

Infobox school cleanup discussion enquiry

Hi Bellezzasolo, hope you're well. Not sure if you remember me, but you might remember me from the Infobox UK school TFD merge discussion we had a while back. The merge was a success which I'm really pleased, UK schools are benefiting from the improved look and additional parameters. Thanks for supporting the merge :) - I just wanted to ask if you would be interested in taking part in the Infobox school cleanup discussion on the Infobox school talk page? It's basically a full cleanup of the infobox such as list of parameters to be merged and deleted. There are already parameters listed under relevant subsections with a reason, it's mainly the merge and delete completely that needs comment on. You would only need to comment under each bullet point, you don't have to comment anything detailed, just simply "support" or "oppose" and signed would be good to help build consensus. Please let me know, thank you Steven (Editor) (talk) 21:43, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Canada Food Guide

Hello Bellezzasolo,

Can you explain to my why you do not want the "Canada Food Guide" page updated? The new Food Guide was released to the public this week and the wiki page should reflect the new Guide. https://food-guide.canada.ca/en/

(Wholeplantfoodie (talk) 17:18, 23 January 2019 (UTC)wholeplantfoodieWholeplantfoodie (talk) 17:18, 23 January 2019 (UTC)) --Wholeplantfoodie (talk) 17:18, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Wholeplantfoodie, because a lot of information is being lost (e.g. fruit and veg). A section about the new revision would be far more helpful. Bellezzasolo Discuss 17:23, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Flooded with them hundreds' user scripts

Dear all. Recently, our community lost a dedicated user, Flooded with them hundreds (talk). Among their projects were a number of user scripts that were deleted when they left. I (DannyS712) have asked that they be undeleted, and have taken over maintaining them. You currently import Flooded's (deleted) script, and I thought that you might want to import a working version. Links to each script are provided below.

Care to explain disruptive editing warning?

@Bellezzasolo: Hello, I'm kind of new to Wikipedia but you left me a message I was disruptive editing but I'm not sure what I edit I did to get a warning. OverlordBaron (talk) 04:50, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

TheFamousPeople.com as a source

Hi Bellezzasolo. I noticed that you recently used thefamouspeople.com as a source for biographical information in [Jeremy Ray Taylor]]. Please note that there is general consensus that thefamouspeople.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for such information. (Discussions here and here). If you disagree, let's discuss it. Draft:Sam Enrico Williams

Hello Bellezzasolo, I thought I could disturb you this morning, sorry for that. I am drafting an article and would wish you go through it and propose changes to it. If you find it to be fit for the article page, you can at your capacity move. Kindly talk back so I can finish it up.Christopher Odhiambo (talk) 09:02, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

@Christopher Odhiambo:, in my view the tone is still too promotional to move from draftspace, at the moment. I've so far done simple grammatical and stylistic fixes, and am looking at the tone now. Bellezzasolo Discuss 20:45, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
@Bellezzasolo:, Thank you so much. I will as well look at the tone together with you. I appreciate your assistance, and I think it is going to make me enjoy editing in Wikipedia.Christopher Odhiambo (talk) 22:11, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
@Bellezzasolo:, Anything please on this article?Christopher Odhiambo (talk) 16:00, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Christopher Odhiambo, The line He currently has more than 10 years experience in digital content, publications and distribution,[5] with another solid ground in the field of cryptocurrency, initial coin offering (ICO) and finance. sounds too much like something from a Resume. When talking about his companies, it sounds again a bit promotional. Finally, the publications section needs stripping down to maybe the one or two most notable ones. Bellezzasolo Discuss 16:06, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Bellezzasolo Thank you for your time. I suppose the best thing to do is to strip down the part of the companies just as in the publications.Christopher Odhiambo (talk) 16:12, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Christopher Odhiambo, that would be my instinct, keeping it relevant to the topic. For example, Bill Gates's article does have coverage of Microsoft, but it's kept to what Gates himself was involved in. Bellezzasolo Discuss 16:15, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Bellezzasolo Kindly check it out.Christopher Odhiambo (talk) 16:42, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

  Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
  • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

  Technical news

  • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

  • A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

DS alert script

Hi Bellezzasolo. I've used this script of yours twice in the last day, and both times it's behaved somewhat funny. First, I essentially need to click through twice to circumvent the edit-filter; I cannot just "confirm" my first attempt to give an alert (but I imagine this is intentional, and mention it only as a suggestion). When I do click through the second time, the popup window displays a message in red, saying "this user has been notified of the sanctions" or something similar. When I click on that message, it links to this edit of mine, which was completely unrelated to the users in question. Any help here? Vanamonde (Talk) 02:06, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Vanamonde93, what's happening there is that it picks up on the edit filter hit that was triggered by the first run. Of course, since the action was a warning, there's no associated diff, hence the linked diff is undefined, which seems to just give the latest revision of the main page. Regarding the edit filter, I did try to circumvent it by saving twice - alas, no luck on that front so far. Sorting that out would resolve the phantom notification issue too, but I've added a few lines to sort that out. Bellezzasolo Discuss 02:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
Interesting. It's not a major inconvenience, it just necessitated an extra click. Is that part of the script actually supposed to scan through user talk history for DS alerts? Vanamonde (Talk) 02:24, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
Vanamonde93, yes, each DS alert hits the edit filter, so it's just a question of searching the filter log for the last year. It really makes the edit filter obsolete given that searching AE is optional (my script doesn't do that). Bellezzasolo Discuss 02:30, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
In that case, if the search returns no hits, shouldn't the script tell me the user hasn't been warned, or at least that no hits to the edit-filter have been found? Vanamonde (Talk) 02:41, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Wilmot Elementary Page - "Not notable"

Hi Bellezzasolo,

Hope you're doing well! I saw you redirected my page on Wilmont Elementary because it wasn't notable enough. I'm new to editing on Wikipedia, I was hoping you might be able to share with me how best to determine if an institution is notable enough for a Wikipedia page.

Thanks!

--JohnAnderson1776 (talk) 18:16, 8 February 2019 (UTC) John Anderson

Hi JohnAnderson1776. Mostly, notability is determined by the Wikipedia:General Notability Guideline. There's a whole list of supplementary notability guidelines to the right, which work in conjunction with that. Regarding schools, secondary schools that are shown to exist are presumed notable, but primary schools are not. Exceptions to that rule are e.g. the oldest primary school in a given country, with sources (i.e. if the GNG is satisfied). Thanks! Bellezzasolo Discuss 13:56, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Shin Hyun-hwak

On 15 February 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shin Hyun-hwak, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Shin Hyun-hwak was Prime Minister of South Korea for less than six months? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shin Hyun-hwak. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Shin Hyun-hwak), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Bellezzasolo,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Editing others edits?

Bellezzasolo.....Who are you to decide if someone else's edits are not researched or poorly researched?
You simply deleted my edit without any effort on your part to explain why you though my edit was poorly researched. If you disagree with an edit I make... then explain why. Refute my claim if you are able.
Or else mind your own business and don't touch my edits. Thank you.
   ---- Catoni54 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catoni54 (talkcontribs) 23:30, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
@Catoni54: What you added wasn't referenced. That doesn't mean not researched, but wp:verifiability is a core policy here. Normally, you'd be able to reinstate your edit and add a reference. In this case, however, your edit was deleted for copyright violation, which would suggest that you copied content verbatim from another source.
As a final note, anyone can edit Wikipedia, you do not OWN your contributions. Bellezzasolo Discuss 07:46, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).

  Guideline and policy news

  Technical news

  • XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.

  Arbitration

  • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
  • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Bellezzasolo,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

  Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

  Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Bellezzasolo,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.
