Speedy deletion nomination of Theatron (3D visualisation project) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Theatron (3D visualisation project), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.  Chzz  ►  15:09, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Advice edit

Hi Becky (and others), I've deleted the article on Theatron as it was unambiguously promotional in its tone. More importantly though, for a topic to be included in Wikipedia, it needs to have been received "significant coverage in multiple, independent sources which as far as I can tell, theatron has not been. If someone has set you this as work as part of your degree then you need to tell them that you can't unless it has people have written about it (for example in newspapers, books or journals). If you have any questions, ask them below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks SmartSE (talk) 17:09, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. Judging by your note on my talk page, I think you / your supervisor has misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia. It sounds as if you have been conducting original research about Theatron, which cannot be published here. The link explains that, as well as Wikipedia:NOTESSAY. Please read WP:GNG (which I linked to above) and the rest of that page and hopefully you understand why we can't have an article about unless other people have written about it. It would be helpful if you and your friends just use this page to discuss it, rather than having responses on different pages by the way. SmartSE (talk) 17:00, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm not going to put the article back live, because it was deleted for being spammy, which is different to the issue of whether we should have an article in the first place. I can email you a copy though if none of you have it. You don't have an email associated with your account, but if you email smartsewiki [at] gmail.com I'll send it to you tonight. You should also read WP:MFA which talks through how to go about writing an article for the first time. I've looked at the sources that you mentioned that I can access and I'm not entirely sure whether they are enough or not. I'd also advise 9you to create a draft of the article first, for example at User:Becktang/Theatron (software) as this will prevent anyone suggesting that it should be deleted while you work on it. Make sure you maintain a neutral point of view rather than using words like "innovative, huge etc." Most importantly though, make sure everything is verifiable - if I can't find the information in a book/paper/article then you shouldn't include it. Good luck! SmartSE (talk) 18:57, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
One other thing... are there any other groups working on different articles? SmartSE (talk) 19:04, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
